From the body of that woman, at the end of their union, O virtuous one, sweat issued forth from her, weary from the radiance of Hari.
As she was wearied by the great exertion, her breath was released; then, all that sweat became the cosmic egg.
That exhaled breath became the support of all; the breath of exhalation is, indeed, the life-force of all beings in all existences.
From her left side appeared the embodied air; she became his wife, and their sons were the five vital airs of living beings.
The vital airs—prāṇa, apāna, samāna, udāna, and vyāna—became his sons, and thus there were five downward-moving prāṇas as well.
From the sweat and water arose the great deity Varuṇa; and from his left side, his wife Varuṇānī was born.
Then that dark, conscious power bore the dark embryo, shining with the radiance of Brahman, for a hundred manvantaras.
She, the presiding goddess of Kṛṣṇa's vital breath, dearer than his very life, ever dwells upon Kṛṣṇa's chest as his constant companion.
At the end of a hundred manvantaras, when the time had passed, the beautiful one gave birth to a golden-hued child, the supreme abode and support of the universe.
Seeing the child, the goddess was pierced in her heart; in anger, she cast it away into the waters within the cosmic egg.
Seeing that abandonment, Kṛṣṇa cried out in distress; the Lord of the gods immediately cursed the goddess as was fitting.
Because you, harsh and wrathful one, have abandoned your child, from this day forth, you shall certainly be childless.
Any divine women who are your portions shall all be childless like you, ever youthful.
Meanwhile, from the tip of the goddess's tongue, a single maiden suddenly appeared, white in color and enchanting.
Clad in white garments, holding a vīṇā and a book, adorned with jeweled ornaments, she was the presiding deity of all knowledge.
Then, in the course of time, she assumed a dual form: from her left half came Kamalā, and from her right half, Rādhikā.
At that moment, Kṛṣṇa too assumed a dual form: his right half was two-armed, and his left half was four-armed.
Kṛṣṇa spoke to Vāṇī: 'Become his beloved; here, proud Rādhā, well-being shall be yours.'
Thus, pleased, he gave Lakṣmī to Nārāyaṇa, and the Lord of the universe went to Vaikuṇṭha together with them.
When those two became childless and Rādhā's portion was born, from Nārāyaṇa's body arose four-armed attendants.
Equal to Hari in brilliance, age, beauty, and qualities, from Kamalā came countless maidservants, also equal to her.
Then, O sage, from the pores of the Lord of Goloka, innumerable cowherds were born, equal in age and splendor.
All the attendants of the Lord became equal to her in form, virtue, strength, and valor, and were as dear to him as life itself.
From the pores of Rādhā’s body arose the cowherd maidens, and all of them were equal to Rādhā, speaking sweetly as she did.
All those maidens were adorned with jeweled ornaments, ever youthful and steadfast, and, due to a curse, remained childless.
Meanwhile, O Brahmin, suddenly the goddess Kṛṣṇa-devatā appeared—she was Durgā, the eternal Māyā of Viṣṇu.
The Goddess, Nārāyaṇī, the sovereign of all, the embodiment of all powers, the presiding intelligence of Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Self, manifested there.
She is the seed-form of all goddesses, the primal nature, the sovereign; of the form of perfect radiance, embodying the three guṇas.
Her complexion shone like molten gold, her brilliance equaled ten million suns; her face was slightly smiling and gracious, and she was endowed with a thousand arms.
She bore many kinds of weapons and missiles, had three eyes, was clothed in garments purified by fire, and adorned with jeweled ornaments.
