गुडं पृथुकद्राक्षे च खर्जूरं चैव चारकम् । अपूपं नवनीतं च मुद्गं मोदक एव च
Jaggery, flattened rice, grapes, dates, charaka, apupa, fresh butter, green gram, and sweet dumplings as well,
मातुलिङ्गमिति प्रोक्तं भनैवेद्यं च नारद । विष्कम्भादिषु योगेषु प्रवक्ष्यामि निवेदनम्
Matulinga is declared as the offering, O Narada; now I shall tell you about the offerings for the conjunctions such as Vishkambha.
पदार्थानां कृतेष्वेषु प्रीणाति जगदम्बिका । गुडं मधु घृतं दुग्धं दधि तक्रं त्वपूपकम्
When these items are offered, the Mother of the Universe is pleased: jaggery, honey, ghee, milk, curd, buttermilk, and apupaka.
नवनीतं कर्कटीं च कूष्माण्डं चापि मोदकम् । पनसं कदलं जम्बुफलमाम्रफलं तिलम्
Fresh butter, cucumber, pumpkin, sweet dumpling, jackfruit, banana, jambū fruit, mango, and sesame seeds,
नारङ्गं दाडिमं चैव बदरीफलमेव च । धात्रीफलं पायसञ्च पृथुकं चणकं तथा
Orange, pomegranate, jujube fruit, amalaki fruit, milk-rice, flattened rice, and chickpeas as well,
नारिकेलं जम्भफलं कसेरुं सूरणं तथा । एतानि क्रमशो विप्र नैवेद्यानि शुभानि च
Coconut, jambha fruit, kaseru, surana—these, O Brahmin, are the auspicious offerings in order.
विष्कम्भादिषु योगेषु निर्णीतानि मनीषिभिः । अथ नैवेद्यमाख्यास्ये करणानां पृथङ्मुने
For the conjunctions such as Vishkambha, these have been determined by the wise; now, O sage, I shall describe the offerings for the utensils separately.
कंसारं मण्डकं फेणी मोदकं वटपत्रकम् । लड्डुकं घृतपूरं च तिलं दधि घृतं मधु
Kamsara, mandaka, phenika, sweet dumpling, banyan leaf, laddu, ghee-filled sweet, sesame seeds, curd, ghee, and honey—
करणानामिदं प्रोक्तं देवीनैवेद्यमादरात् । अथान्यत्सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि देवीप्रीतिकरं परम्
These are declared as the offerings for the utensils to the Goddess, with reverence; now I shall tell you another supreme act that pleases the Goddess.
विधानं नारदमुने शृणु तत्सर्वमादृतः । चैत्रशुद्धतृतीयायां नरो मधुकवृक्षकम्
Hear, O sage Narada, with respect, the entire procedure: on the third day of the bright half of Chaitra, a person should offer the madhuka flower.
पूजयेत्पञ्च खाद्यं च नैवेद्यमुपकल्पयेत् । एवं द्वादशमासेषु तृतीयातिथिषु क्रमात्
One should offer five kinds of food and prepare the consecrated offering; in this way, on the third lunar day of each of the twelve months, in succession.
शुक्लपक्षे विधानेन नैवेद्यमभिदध्महे । वैशाखमासे नैवेद्यं गुडयुक्तं च नारद
In the bright fortnight, according to the prescribed rule, the offering is declared; in the month of Vaiśākha, O Nārada, the offering should be prepared with jaggery.
ज्येष्ठमासे मधु प्रोक्तं देवीप्रीत्यर्थमेव तु । आषाढे नवनीतं च मधुकस्य निवेदनम्
In the month of Jyeṣṭha, honey is prescribed as the offering for the pleasure of the Goddess; in Āṣāḍha, fresh butter is to be offered, as well as honey.
श्रावणे दधि नैवेद्यं भाद्रमासे च शर्करा । आश्विने पायसं प्रोक्तं कार्तिके पय उत्तमम्
In Śrāvaṇa, curd is the offering; in Bhādra, sugar; in Āśvina, rice pudding is prescribed; in Kārtika, the best milk.
मार्गे फेण्युत्तमा प्रोक्ता पौषे च दधिकूर्चिका । माघे मासि च नैवेद्यं मृतं गव्यं समाहरेत्
In Mārgaśīrṣa, the best kind of rice cake is prescribed; in Pauṣa, curdled milk; and in Māgha, the offering should be gathered from cow’s milk products.
नारिकेलं च नैवेद्यं फाल्गुने परिकीर्तितम् । एवं द्वादशनैवेद्यैर्मासे च क्रमतोऽर्चयेत्
In Phālguna, coconut is prescribed as the offering; thus, with twelve different offerings, one should worship each month in succession.
मङ्गला वैष्णवी माया कालरात्रिर्दुरत्यया । महामाया मतङ्गी च काली कमलवासिनी
Maṅgalā, Vaiṣṇavī, Māyā, Kālarātri, Duratyayā, Mahāmāyā, Mataṅgī, Kālī, and Kamalavāsinī—
शिवा सहस्रचरणा सर्वमङ्गलरूपिणी । एभिर्नामपदैर्देवीं मधूके परिपूजयेत्
Śivā, She of a thousand feet, the embodiment of all auspiciousness—by these names, one should worship the Goddess at the Madhūka tree.
ततः स्तुवीत देवेशीं मधूकस्थां महेश्वरीम् । सर्वकामसमृद्ध्यर्थं व्रतपूर्णत्वसिद्धये
Then, one should praise the Goddess, the great Lady established at the Madhūka tree, for the fulfillment of all desires and the completion of the vow.
नमः पुष्करनेत्रायै जगद्धात्र्यै नमोऽस्तु ते । माहेश्वर्यं महादेव्यै महामङ्गलमूर्तये
Salutations to You, Lotus-eyed One, Sustainer of the world; salutations to You, Great Lady of Maheśvara, whose form is supreme auspiciousness.
परमा पापहन्त्री च परमार्गप्रदायिनी । परमेश्वरी प्रजोत्पत्तिः परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणी
Supreme destroyer of sin, bestower of the highest path, Supreme Lady, origin of creation, embodiment of the Supreme Brahman.
मददात्री मदोन्मत्ता मानगम्या महोन्नता । मनस्विनी मुनिध्येया मार्तण्डसहचारिणी
Giver of intoxication, herself intoxicated, unattainable by pride, supremely exalted; mindful, worthy of sages’ meditation, companion of the Sun.
जय लोकेश्वरि प्राज्ञे प्रलयाम्बुदसन्निभे । महामोहविनाशार्थं पूजितासि सुरासुरैः
Victory to You, Lady of the worlds, wise one, resembling the cloud of dissolution; for the destruction of great delusion, You are worshipped by gods and demons.
यमलोकाभावकर्त्री यमपूज्या यमाग्रजा । यमनिग्रहरूपा च यजनीये नमो नमः
Creator of the absence of Yama’s realm, unfit for Yama’s worship, elder to Yama, embodiment of Yama’s restraint, worthy of worship—salutations again and again.
समस्वभावा सर्वेशी सर्वसङ्गविवर्जिता । सङ्गनाशकरी काम्यरूपा कारुण्यविग्रहा
Of equal nature, sovereign of all, free from all attachments, destroyer of attachments, of desirable form, embodiment of compassion.
कङ्कालक्रूरा कामाक्षी मीनाक्षी मर्मभेदिनी । माधुर्यरूपशीला च मधुरस्वरपूजिता
Fierce as a skeleton, desirous-eyed, fish-eyed, piercer of vital points; of sweet nature and form, worshipped by those of sweet voice.
महामन्त्रवती मन्त्रगम्या मन्त्रप्रियङ्करी । मनुष्यमानसगमा मन्मथारिप्रियङ्करी
Endowed with great mantras, accessible through mantras, bestower of favor to mantra practitioners; approachable to human minds, bestower of favor to the enemy of Kāma.
अश्वत्थवटनिम्बाम्रकपित्थबदरीगते । पनसार्ककरीरादिक्षीरवृक्षस्वरूपिणी
Present in the aśvattha, vaṭa, nimba, mango, kapittha, jujube trees; in jackfruit, arka, karīra, and other milk-bearing trees—You are their very form.
दुग्धवल्लीनिवासार्हे दयनीये दयाधिके । दाक्षिण्यकरुणारूपे जय सर्वज्ञवल्लभे
O you who are worthy of dwelling in a milk-creeper bower, who are most compassionate, who embody kindness and mercy, who are the very form of benevolence and compassion—victory to you, beloved of the all-knowing!
एवं स्तवेन देवेशीं पूजनान्ते स्तुवीत ताम् । व्रतस्य सकलं पुण्यं लभते सर्वदा नरः
Thus, at the end of worship, one should praise the Goddess with this hymn; a person always obtains the full merit of the vow.
