अरुणोदसवर्णेन अरुणोदा प्रवर्तते । नदी रम्यजला देवदैत्यराजप्रपूजिता
With the color of the rising sun, the river Aruṇodā begins to flow, its waters charming, worshipped by gods, demons, and kings.
अरुणाख्या महाराज वर्तते पापहारिणी । पूजयन्ति च तां देवीं सर्वकामफलप्रदाम्
O great king, the river named Aruṇā exists, destroyer of sin; the goddess who grants all desires is worshipped there.
नानोपहारबलिभिः कल्मषघ्न्यभयप्रदाम् । तस्याः कृपावलोकेन क्षेमारोग्यं व्रजन्ति ते
With various offerings and sacrifices, she removes sin and grants fearlessness; by her compassionate glance, they attain well-being and health.
आद्या मायातुलानन्ता पुष्टिरीश्वरमालिनी । दुष्टनाशकरी कान्तिदायिनीति स्मृता भुवि
She is known on earth as the primordial one, measureless as Māyā, endless, the giver of nourishment, adorned with lordship, destroyer of the wicked, and bestower of radiance.
अस्याः पूजाप्रभावेण जाम्बूनदमुदावहत्
By the power of her worship, she brings forth the river of gold.
भुवनकोशवर्णनेऽरुणोदादिनदीनां निसर्गस्थानवर्णनम् श्रीनारायण उवाच अरुणोदा नदी या तु मया प्रोक्ता च नारद । मन्दरान्निपतन्ती सा पूर्वेणेलावृतं प्लवेत्
Description of the world-sheath and the natural places of the rivers beginning with Aruṇodā. Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The river Aruṇodā, which I have mentioned, O Nārada, descends from Mandara and flows eastward, encircling Ilāvṛta.
यज्जोषणाद्भवान्याश्चानुचरीणां स्त्रियामपि । यक्षगन्धर्वपत्नीनां देहगन्धवहोऽनिलः
The wind carrying the fragrance of the bodies of Yakṣa and Gandharva women, attendants of Bhavānī, also spreads around.
वासयत्यभितो भूमिं दशयोजनसंख्यया । एवं जम्बूफलानां च तुङ्गदेशनिपातनात्
It perfumes the land all around for a distance of ten yojanas; likewise, from the falling of the jambū fruits in the high region—
विशीर्यतामनस्थीनां कुञ्जराङ्गप्रमाणिनाम् । रसेन च नदी जम्बूनाम्नी मेर्वाख्यमन्दरात्
As those fruits, as large as elephant limbs, break apart, their juice forms a river named Jambū, originating from Meru, also called Mandara.
पतन्ती भूमिभागे च दक्षिणेलावृतं गता । देवी जम्बूफलास्वादतुष्टा जम्ब्वादिनी स्मृता
Falling to the earth, it reaches the southern part of Ilāvṛta; the goddess, pleased with the taste of jambū fruits, is known as Jambvādinī.
तत्रत्यानां च लोकानां देवनागर्षिरक्षसाम् । पूजनीयपदा मान्या सर्वभूतदयाकरी
Among the worlds there, she is revered by gods, sages, and demons; her place is worthy of worship, honored, and she is compassionate to all beings.
पावनी पापिनां रोगनाशिनी स्मरतामपि । कीर्तिता विघ्नसंहर्त्री माननीया दिवौकसाम्
She purifies even the sinful, destroys diseases for those who remember her; when praised, she removes obstacles and is esteemed by the dwellers of heaven.
कोकिलाक्षी कामकला करुणा कामपूजिता । कठोरविग्रहा धन्या नाकिमान्या गभस्तिनी
With eyes like a cuckoo, embodiment of desire, full of compassion, worshipped for fulfilling wishes; her form is fierce, she is blessed, honored by celestial beings, and radiant.
एभिर्नामपदैः कामं जपनीया सदा नृणाम् । जम्बूनदीरोधसोर्या मृत्तिकातीरवर्तिनी
With these names and epithets, she is always to be recited by people; she dwells on the banks of the Jambu river, upon the clay shores.
जम्बूरसेनानुविद्ध्यमाना वाय्वर्कयोगतः । विद्याधरामरस्त्रीणां भूषणं विविधं महत्
Pierced by the army of Jambu, through the union of wind and sun, there are splendid and varied ornaments for the women of the Vidyadharas and gods.
जाम्बूनदं सुवर्णं च प्रोक्तं देवविनिर्मितम् । यत्सुवर्णं च विबुधा योषिद्भिः कामुकाः सदा
Jāmbūnada gold is said to be created by the gods; and the gold which the divine women, always desirous, use for adornment.
मुकुटं कटिसूत्रं च केयूरादीन्प्रकुर्वते । महाकदम्बः सम्प्रोक्तः सुपार्श्वगिरिसंस्थितः
They make crowns, girdles, armlets, and other ornaments from it; the great Kadamba tree is said to be established on the mountain called Supārśva.
तस्य कोटरदेशेभ्यः पञ्च धाराश्च याः स्मृताः । सुपार्श्वगिरिमूर्ध्नीह पतन्त्येता भुवं गताः
From the hollows of that tree, five streams are remembered; here, on the summit of Supārśva mountain, they fall and reach the earth.
मधुधाराः पञ्च तास्तु पश्चिमेलावृतं प्लुताः । याश्चोपभुज्यमानानां देवानां मुखगन्धभृत्
Those five streams of honey flow westward, overflowing; and for the gods who partake of them, their mouths are fragrant.
वायुः समन्ततोऽगच्छञ्छतयोजनवासनः । धारेश्वरी महादेवी भक्तानां कार्यकारिणी
The wind moves all around, carrying the scent for a hundred yojanas; the goddess, ruler of the streams, accomplishes the wishes of her devotees.
देवपूज्या महोत्साहा कालरूपा महानना । वसते कर्मफलदा कान्तारग्रहणेश्वरी
Worshipped by the gods, of great enthusiasm, she is the form of time, with a vast face; she dwells as the giver of the fruits of actions, sovereign of the forest and mountain.
करालदेहा कालाङ्गी कामकोटिप्रवर्तिनी । इत्येतैर्नामभिः पूज्या देवी सर्वसुरेश्वरी
With a fierce body, dark-limbed, she acts according to countless desires; thus, with these names, the goddess, ruler of all divine beings, is worshipped.
एवं कुमुदरूढो यो नाम्ना शतबलो वटः । तत्स्कन्धेभ्योऽधोमुखाश्च नदाः कुमुदमूर्धतः
Thus, the banyan tree named Shatabala, mounted by Kumuda, from whose branches rivers flow downward, from the summit of Kumuda.
पयोदधिमधुघृतगुडान्नाद्यम्बरादिभिः । शय्यासनाद्याभरणैः सर्वे कामदुघाश्च ते
With milk, honey, ghee, sugar, food, garments, and more; beds, seats, ornaments—all are wish-fulfilling for them.
उत्तरेणेलावृतं ते प्लावयन्ति समन्ततः । मीनाक्षी तत्तले देवी देवासुरनिषेविता
To the north, they flood the region of Ilāvṛta on all sides; on its surface, the goddess Mīnākṣī is served by gods and demons.
नीलाम्बरा रौद्रमुखी नीलालकयुता च सा । नाकिनां देवसंघानां फलदा वरदा च सा
She wears blue garments, has a fierce face, and is adorned with blue locks; she grants fruits and boons to the hosts of gods and celestial beings.
अतिमान्यातिपूज्या च मत्तमातङ्गगामिनी । मदनोन्मादिनी मानप्रिया मानप्रियान्तरा
She is exceedingly honored and worshipped, moves like a wild elephant; she intoxicates with love, delights in honor, and is fond of those who cherish honor.
मारवेगधरा मारपूजिता मारमादिनी । मयूरवरशोभाढ्या शिखिवाहनगर्भभूः
She bears the force of the god of love, is worshipped by him, and delights him; she is adorned with the splendor of a peacock and is the womb of the peacock mount.
एभिर्नामपदैर्वन्द्या देवी सा मीनलोचना । जपतां स्मरतां मानदात्री चेश्वरसङ्गिनी
The goddess with eyes like a fish is to be praised with these names and words; she grants honor to those who recite and remember them, and she is the beloved of the Lord.
तेषां नदानां पानीयपानानुगतचेतसाम् । प्रजानां न कदाचित्स्याद्वलीपलितलक्षणम्
For those whose minds are devoted to drinking the waters of these rivers, never will there appear on their bodies the marks of wrinkles or gray hair.
