अग्रतश्च नमस्तेऽस्तु पृष्ठतश्च नमो नमः । सर्वामराधारभूत बृहद्धाम नमोऽस्तु ते
Salutations to you from the front, and again, salutations from behind; O vast abode, foundation of all the immortals, my reverence to you.
त्वयाहं च प्रजासर्गे नियुक्त: शक्तिबृंहितः । त्वदाज्ञावशतः सर्गं करोमि विकरोमि च
Empowered by your energy, I am appointed to the creation of beings; under your command, I create and also transform.
त्वत्सहायेन देवेशा अमराश्च पुरा हरे । सुधां विभेजिरे सर्वे यथाकालं यथाबलम्
With your assistance, O Lord of the gods, the immortals of old, O Hari, divided the nectar according to time and strength.
इन्द्रस्त्रिलोकीसाम्राज्यं लब्धवांस्तन्निदेशत: । भूनक्ति लक्ष्मीं बहुलां सुरसंघप्रपूजित:
Indra, by your direction, attained sovereignty over the three worlds; he enjoys abundant fortune, honored by the hosts of gods.
वह्निः पावकतां लब्ध्वा जाठरादिविभेदतः । देवासुरमनुष्याणां करोत्याप्यायनं तथा
Agni, having obtained the power of burning and being divided into the stomach and elsewhere, brings nourishment to gods, asuras, and humans alike.
धर्मराजोऽथ पितृणामधिपः सर्वकर्मदृक । कर्मणां फलदातासौ त्वन्नियोगादधीश्वरः
Dharma-raja, the lord of the ancestors and overseer of all deeds, is the giver of the fruits of actions; by your command, he is the supreme ruler.
नैर्ऋतो रक्षसामीशो यक्षो विघ्नविनाशन: । सर्वेषां प्राणिनां कर्मसाक्षी त्वत्तः प्रजायते
Nairrita is the lord of the rakshasas, Yaksha destroys obstacles; the witness of all beings' actions is born from you.
वरुणो यादसामीशो लोकपालो जलाधिपः । त्वदाज्ञाबलमाश्रित्य लोकपालत्वमागतः
Varuna, lord of the aquatic beings, guardian of the world and ruler of the waters, has attained the office of world-guardian by relying on your power.
वायुर्गन्धवह: सर्वभूतप्राणनकारणम् । जातस्तव निदेशेन लोकपालो जगद्गुरुः
Vayu, the bearer of fragrance and cause of life in all beings, was born by your command, O world-guardian and teacher of the universe.
कुबेरः किन्नरादीनां यक्षाणां जीवनाश्रयः । त्वदाज्ञान्तर्गतः सर्वलोकपेषु च मान्यभू
Kubera, the refuge of life for kinnaras, yakshas, and others, is included within your command and is honored among all the world-guardians.
ईशान: सर्वरुद्राणामीश्वरान्तकरः प्रभूः । जातो लोकेशवन्द्योऽसौ सर्वदेवाधिपालकः
Ishana, lord of all Rudras, destroyer of lords, is mighty; he was born, revered by the rulers of the worlds, protector of all the gods.
नमस्तुभ्यं भगवते जगदीशाय कुर्महे । यस्थांशभागाः सर्वे हि जाता देवाः सहस्रशः
We offer salutations to you, O Lord, ruler of the universe, from whom all the gods, in thousands, have arisen as portions of your power.
नारद उवाच एव स्तुतो विश्वसृजा भगवानादिपूरुष: । लीलावलोकमात्रेणाप्यनुग्रहमवासृजत्
Narada said: Thus praised by the creator of the universe, the blessed primordial person bestowed grace with a mere glance of his play.
तत्रैवाभ्यागतं दैत्यं हिरण्याक्षं महासुरम् । रुन्धानमध्वनो भीमं गदयाताडयद्धरि:
There, the mighty demon Hiranyaksha, having arrived and blocking the path, was struck by Hari with his mace.
तद्रक्तपङ्कदिग्धाङ्गो भगवानादिपूरुषः । उद्धृत्य धरणीं देवो दंष्ट्रया लीलयाप्सु ताम्
His body smeared with blood and mud, the blessed primordial person, by his tusk and with ease, lifted the earth from the waters.
निवेश्य लोकनाथेशो जगाम स्थानमात्मनः । एतद्भगवतश्चित्रं धरण्युद्धरणं परम्
Having placed the earth, the lord of the worlds went to his own abode; this wondrous act of the Lord, the raising of the earth, is supreme.
शृणूयाद्य: पुमान् यश्च पठेच्चरितमुत्तमम् । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो वैष्णवीं गतिमाप्नुयात्
Whoever hears or recites this excellent story today becomes freed from all sins and attains the path of Vishnu.
भुवनकोशविस्तारे स्वायम्भुवमनुवंशकीर्तनम् श्रीनारायण उवाच महीं देव: प्रतिष्ठाप्य यथास्थाने च नारद । वैकुण्ठलोकमगमद् ब्रह्मोवाच स्वमात्मजम्
The extent of the cosmic egg and the lineage of Svayambhuva Manu. Shri Narayana said: Having established the earth in its proper place, O Narada, the Lord went to Vaikuntha; Brahma spoke to his own son.
स्वायम्भूव महाबाहो पुत्र तेजस्विनांवर । स्थाने महीमये तिष्ठ प्रजाः सृज यथोचितम्
O mighty-armed Svayambhuva, best among radiant sons, remain in your appointed place upon the earth and create beings as is proper.
देशकालविभागेन यज्ञेशं पुरुषं यज । उच्चावचपदार्थैश्च यज्ञसाधनकैर्विभो
According to place and time, worship the Lord of Sacrifice, the Supreme Person, with offerings both great and small, using the means prescribed for sacrifice, O illustrious one.
धर्ममाचर शास्त्रोक्तं वर्णाश्रमनिबन्धनम् । एतेन क्रमयोगेन प्रजावृद्धिर्भविष्यति
Practice the dharma as taught in the scriptures, based on the system of classes and stages of life; by this orderly method, the increase of beings will come about.
पुत्रानुत्पाद्य गुणतः कीर्त्या कान्त्यात्मरूपिणः । विद्याविनयसम्पन्नान् सदाचारवतां वरान्
Beget sons endowed with virtue, fame, beauty, and self-mastery, possessing knowledge and humility, and excelling in good conduct.
कन्याश्च दत्त्वा गुणवद्यशोवद्भ्यः समाहितः । मन: सम्यक् समाधाय प्रधानपुरुषे परे
And, with a focused mind, give your daughters to worthy men of good qualities and renown, then fix your mind properly upon the Supreme Person, the Primal Lord.
भक्तिसाधनयोगेन भगवत्परिचर्यया । गतिमिष्टां सदा वन्द्यां योगिनां गमिता भवान्
Through the discipline of devotion and service to the Blessed Lord, you will attain the desired and ever-honored state, revered by yogis.
इत्याश्वास्य मनुं पुत्र पद्मयोनिः प्रजापति: । प्रजासर्गे नियम्यामुं स्वधाम प्रत्यपद्यत
Having thus encouraged his son Manu, the lotus-born Lord of Creatures, after instructing him in the creation of beings, returned to his own abode.
प्रजाः सृजत पुत्रेति पितुराज्ञां समादधत् । स्वायम्भुवः प्रजासर्गमकरोत्पृथिवीपतिः
Accepting his father's command to create beings, Svayambhuva, the lord of the earth, began the creation of living beings.
भुवनकोशविषये प्रियव्रतवंशवर्णनम् श्रीनारायण उवाच मनोः स्वायम्भुवस्यासीज्ज्येष्ठः पुत्रः प्रियव्रतः । पितुः सेवापरो नित्यं सत्यधर्मपरायणः
On the subject of the world-sphere, the lineage of Priyavrata is described. Shri Narayana said: Priyavrata was the eldest son of Svayambhuva Manu, ever devoted to serving his father, and steadfast in truth and righteousness.
प्रजापतेर्दुहितरं सुरूपां विश्वकर्मणः । बर्हिष्मतीं चोपयेमे समानां शीलकर्मभिः
He married Barhishmati, the beautiful daughter of Prajapati Vishvakarma, who was equal to him in character and deeds.
तस्यां पुत्रान्दश गुणैरन्वितान्भावितात्मनः । जनयामास कन्यां चोर्जस्वतीं च यवीयसीम्
From her, he begot ten sons endowed with virtues and noble minds, and also a youngest daughter named Urjasvati.
आग्नीध्रश्चेध्मजिह्वश्च यज्ञबाहुस्तृतीयकः । महावीरश्चतुर्थस्तु पञ्चमो रुक्मशुक्रकः
Their names were Agnidhra, Chedhmajihva, Yajñabahu as the third, Mahavira as the fourth, and Rukmashukra as the fifth.
