The root is the six-pointed base called mūlādhāra; from there, the supreme liṅga is known by its own name, and the svādhiṣṭhāna is known thereafter.
Above that, in the region of the navel, is the maṇipūra, exceedingly radiant; resembling a cloud and lightning, it is filled with abundant brilliance.
That lotus, distinct like a jewel, is called the maṇipadma; it is endowed with ten petals, bearing the syllables from 'ḍa' to 'pha'.
The lotus presided over by Viṣṇu is the cause of Viṣṇu's vision; above it is the anāhata lotus, resembling the rising sun.
It is established with petals from 'ka' to 'tha', and with solar rays; in its center is the bāṇa liṅga, shining with the brilliance of ten thousand suns.
There, the anāhata is perceived as composed of the sound-brahman, the unstruck sound; this lotus called anāhata is praised by the sages.
That is the abode of bliss, presided over by the Supreme Person; above it is the lotus called viśuddha, with sixteen petals.

That pure lotus, known as Viśuddha, called the Ether center, is wondrous; above it is the Ājñā chakra, the supreme seat of the Self.
There, the transition of command occurs; hence it is called Ājñā. That delightful lotus has two petals, marked with the syllables 'ha' and 'kṣa'.

Above that is said to be the thousand-rayed bindu-sthāna. Thus, all this supreme path of yoga has been explained.
At first, by the practice of pūraka (inhalation), one should fix the mind in the base; between the anus and the genitals, one should awaken the power by contracting it.
By the method of piercing the lingam, one should lead the power to the bindu chakra; there, one should contemplate that supreme power as united with Śambhu.
There, the nectar that arises, resembling quicksilver or melted lac, should be made to be drunk by that power called Māyā, bestower of yogic success.
There, the deities of the six chakras are satisfied by the stream of nectar; by that path, the wise one should then bring it to the mūlādhāra.
Thus, for one who practices daily without fail, all the previously mentioned mantras, even if defective, become successful, not otherwise.
He is freed from the bondage of existence, from the sufferings of old age, death, and so on; whatever qualities exist in the Goddess, Mother of the world, so they manifest.
Those qualities, O best of practitioners, indeed arise and not otherwise. Thus, the supreme practice of breath retention has been described.
Now, listen attentively to my instruction on dhāraṇā (concentration); fixing the mind on the Goddess, unlimited by direction or time.
By uniting the individual soul with Brahman, one quickly becomes identified with That; but if the mind is impure, success does not come quickly.
Then, by joining the limbs, the yogi should practice the yogas; in my own hands and feet, O mountain, in the limbs, in the sweet (form).
The practitioner should fix the mind by mastery over the places and supports; with purified mind, he should establish the mind in every form.
