निर्मितैर्वेदिभिर्युक्तं परितो रत्नमंडपम्
And furnished all around with jeweled pavilions constructed with platforms,
दधिपूर्णलाजफलपुष्पदूर्वांकुरान्वितम्
Supplied with curds, parched grain, fruits, flowers, and shoots of sacred grass,
रंभास्तंभसमूहैश्च कुङ्कुमाक्तैर्विराजितम्
Adorned with clusters of plantain pillars, anointed with saffron,
सिंदूरकुंकुमाक्तैश्च गंधचंदनचर्चितैः
And with vermilion and saffron, and smeared with fragrant sandalwood.
गोपिकानां समूहैश्च क्रीडासक्तैश्च वेष्टितम
Surrounded by groups of gopīs, absorbed in playful sports,
वह्निशौचांशुकै रम्यैः श्वेतचामरदर्पणैः
Adorned with garments pure as fire, charming, with white chowries and mirrors,
षोडशद्वारसंयुक्तान्द्वारपालैश्च रक्षितान्
Furnished with sixteen gates, guarded by doorkeepers,
चंदनागुरुकस्तूरीकुंकुमद्रवचर्चितान्
Anointed with sandalwood, aguru, musk, and liquid kuṅkuma,
जग्मुः शीघ्रं कियद्दूरं ददृशुः सुन्दरं ततः
They went swiftly a certain distance and then beheld a beautiful sight.
देवाधिदेव्या गोपीनां वरायाश्चारुनिर्मितम्
Created beautifully by the goddess of the gods for the best among the gopīs,
सर्वानिर्वचनीयं च पंडितैर्न निरूपितम्
Entirely indescribable, not defined even by scholars,
शतमंदिरसंयुक्तं ज्वलितं रत्नतेजसा
Endowed with a hundred mansions, blazing with the brilliance of jewels,
दुर्लंघ्याभिर्गभीराभिः परिखाभिः सुशोभितम्
Adorned with deep moats, difficult to cross,
सुमूल्यरत्नखचितप्राकारैः परिवेष्टितम्
Encircled by walls inlaid with precious gems of great value,
संयुक्तरत्नचित्रैश्च विचित्रैर्वर्तुलं मुने
O sage, circular and wondrous, adorned with various jeweled designs,
सर्वतोऽपि ततस्तत्र षोडशद्वारसंयुतम्
And there, on all sides, furnished with sixteen gates,
सद्रत्नक्षुद्रकलशसमूहैः सुमनोहरैः
With delightful groups of small jewel-encrusted pots,
ततः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य कियद्दूरं ययुर्मुदा
Then, having circumambulated it, they joyfully went a certain distance,
गोपानां गोपिकानां च ददृशुश्चाश्रमान्परान्
And saw the splendid hermitages of the gopas and gopīs,
दर्शंदर्शं च परितो गोपानां सर्वमाश्रमम्
Beholding, here and there, all the hermitages of the gopas,
गोलोकं निखिलं दृष्ट्वा पुलकांगं ययुः सुराः
Seeing the entire Goloka, the gods became thrilled, their bodies bristling with joy,
ददृशुः शतशृंगं च तद्बहिर्विरजानदीम्
They beheld the hundred-peaked mountain and, outside it, the river Virajā.
वाय्वाधारं च गोलोकं सद्रत्नमयमद्भुतम्
Goloka, supported by the wind, is wondrous and made entirely of precious gems.
युक्तं सहस्रैः सरसां केवलं मंगलालयम्
It is adorned with thousands of lakes and is solely an abode of auspiciousness.
सुतानं चारुसंगीतं राधाकृष्णगुणान्वितम्
There, the delightful music of the daughters resounds, endowed with the virtues of Radha and Krishna.
क्षणेन चेतनां प्राप्य ते देवाः कृष्णमानसाः
In a moment, regaining consciousness, those gods, their minds absorbed in Krishna,
ददृशुर्गोपिकाः सर्वा नानावेषविधायिकाः
beheld all the gopikas, each adorned in various costumes.
काश्चिच्चामरहस्ताश्च करतालकराः पराः
Some held fly-whisks in their hands, while others played hand cymbals.
सद्रत्नकिंकिणीजालशब्देन शब्दिता वराः
The best among them were resounding with the jingling of gem-studded anklets.
पुंवेषनायिकाः काश्चित्काश्चित्तासां च नायिकाः
Some among them were dressed as men, and some were their beloveds.
