शंकर उवाच अनादिमादिमानंदरूपिणं सर्वरूपिणम्
Shankara said: The beginningless, the source of bliss, of all forms.
अणिमादिकसिद्धीनां कारणं सर्वकारणम्
The cause of all, and the origin of the powers such as aṇimā and others.
वेदे निर्वचनीयं यत्तन्निर्वक्तुं च कः क्षमः
That which is described in the Vedas—who is capable of describing it?
तदतिरिक्तं स्तवनं किमहं स्तौमि निर्गुणम्
What further praise can I offer? How can I praise the attributeless?
पठित्वा मुच्यते दुर्गाद्वाञ्छितं च लभेन्नरः
By reciting this, one is freed from difficulty, and a person attains what they desire.
गोलोकं यात यूयं च यामि पश्चाच्छ्रिया सह
You all go to Goloka; I shall go later with Shri.
एते यास्यंति गोलोके तथा देवी सरस्वती सावित्री वेदमाता च पश्चाद्यास्यंति निश्चितम्
These will go to Goloka, as will the goddess Sarasvati and Savitri, the mother of the Vedas; certainly, they will go afterwards.
नारायणश्च कृष्णोऽहं श्वेतद्वीपनिवासकृत्
Narayana, Krishna, and I reside in Shvetadvipa.
कलाकलांशकलया सुरासुरनरादयः
By portions and partial portions, the gods, demons, and humans.
वयं पश्चाद्गमिष्यामः सर्वेषामिष्टसिद्धये
We shall go afterwards, for the fulfillment of everyone's wishes.
प्रणम्य देवताः सर्वा जग्मुर्गोलोकमद्भुतम्
Having bowed, all the deities went to the wondrous Goloka.
ऊर्ध्वं वैकुंठतो गम्यं पंचाशत्कोटियोजनम्
Above Vaikuntha, the path extends fifty crore yojanas.
तमनिर्वचनीयं च देवास्ते गमनोत्सुकाः
The gods, eager to proceed, found that place to be indescribable.
दृष्ट्वा देवाः सरित्तीरं विस्मयं परमं ययुः
Seeing the riverbank, the gods were filled with utmost wonder.
मुक्तामाणिक्यपरममणिरत्नाकरान्वितम्
It was adorned with collections of pearls, rubies, and the finest jewels and gems.
प्रवालांकुरमुद्भूतं कुत्रचित्सुमनोहरम्
In some places, beautiful coral shoots had sprung up, enchanting to behold.
विधेरदृश्यामाश्चर्य निधिश्रेष्ठाकरान्वितम्
There were the best of hidden treasures, unseen even by fate, astonishing to behold.
कुत्रचिच्च मरकताकरश्रेणीसमन्वितम्
Elsewhere, there were rows of emerald mines.
अमूल्यपीतवर्णाभं मणिश्रेण्याकरान्वितम्
There were also arrays of priceless yellow-hued gems.
कुत्र निर्वचनीयानां मणीनामाकरं परम्
In some places, there were supreme mines of indescribable jewels.
दृष्ट्वा तु परमाश्चर्यं जग्मुस्तत्पारमीश्वराः
Seeing this supreme wonder, the lords proceeded to its far shore.
पारिजाततरूणां च वनराजिविराजितम्
It was resplendent with groves of Pārijāta trees.
कोटियोजनमूर्ध्वं च दैर्घ्यं दशगुणोत्तरम्
Its height was a crore yojanas, and its length was ten times that.
प्राकाराकारमस्यैव शिखरे रासमंडलम्
At the summit, within its enclosure, was the circle of the Rāsa dance.
पुष्पोद्यानसहस्रेण पुष्पितेन सुगंधिना
It was adorned with a thousand blossoming, fragrant flower gardens.
सुरत द्रव्यसंयुक्तै राजितं रतिमंदिरैः
It was splendid with pleasure-houses furnished with objects of enjoyment.
रत्नसोपानयुक्तेन सद्रत्नकलशेन च
There were jeweled stairways and pitchers made of gems.
सिंदूरवर्णमणिभिः परितः खचितेन च
All around, it was inlaid with vermilion-colored jewels.
रत्नप्राकारसंयुक्तमणिभेदैर्विराजितम्
It shone with jeweled walls and various kinds of gems.
रज्जुग्रंथिसमायुक्तरसालपल्लवान्वितैः । परितः कदलीस्तंभसमूहैश्च समन्वितम्
It was surrounded by clusters of young shoots of sal trees, tied with rope-like knots, and by groups of plantain trunks all around.
