नानाप्रकारशृंगारं विपरीतादिकं विभुः
The Lord engaged in various kinds of amorous play, including those of reversed roles.
विरजा सा रजोयुक्ता धृत्वा वीर्यममोघकम्
Virajā, now possessing passion, received the unfailing seed.
दधार गर्भमीशस्य दिव्यं वर्षशतं च सा
She bore the divine embryo of the Lord for a hundred celestial years.
माता सा सप्तपुत्राणां श्रीकृष्णस्य प्रिया सती
She became the mother of seven sons, the beloved and chaste wife of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
एकदा हरिणा सार्द्धं वृंदारण्ये च निर्जने 4.3.
Once, together with Hari, she was in the secluded Vṛndā forest.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे तत्र मातुः क्रोडं जगाम ह
At that moment, her child approached and climbed onto his mother's lap.
भीतं स्वतनयं दृष्ट्वा तत्याज तां कृपानिधिः
Seeing his own son frightened, the compassionate Lord left her.
प्रबोध्य बालं सा साध्वी न ददर्शांतिके प्रियम्
After comforting the boy, that virtuous lady did not see her beloved nearby.
शशाप स्वसुतं कोपाल्लवणोदो भविष्यसि
In anger, she cursed her own son: 'You shall become Lavaṇoda.'
शशाप बालान्सर्वांश्च यांतु मूढा महीतलम्
She cursed all the boys as well: 'Let them go, deluded, to the earth.'
स्थितिर्नैकत्र युष्माकं भविष्यति पृथक्पृथक्
You will not remain together in one place; you will be separated from each other.
द्वीपस्थाभिर्नदीभिश्च सह क्रीडंतु निर्जने
Let them play together with the rivers that dwell on the islands, in solitude.
कनिष्ठः कथयामास मातृशापं च बालकान्
The youngest spoke to the children about the curse of their mother.
श्रुत्वा विवरणं सर्वे प्रजग्मुर्धरणीतलम्
Hearing the explanation, they all went to the surface of the earth.
सप्तद्वीपसमुद्राश्च सप्त तस्थुर्विभागशः 4.3.
The seven islands and oceans stood apart, each in its own division.
लवणेक्षुसुरा सर्पिर्दधिदुग्धजलार्णवाः
The oceans of salt, sugarcane juice, wine, clarified butter, curd, milk, and water—
व्याप्ताः समुद्राः सप्तैव सप्तद्वीपां वसुंधराम्
These seven oceans pervaded the earth of seven islands.
रुरोद च भृशं साध्वी पुत्रविच्छेदकातरा
That virtuous woman wept bitterly, distressed by the separation from her sons.
तां शोकसागरे मग्नां विज्ञाय राधिकापतिः
Knowing her to be submerged in an ocean of sorrow, the Lord of Rādhā—
दृष्ट्वा हरिं सा तत्याज शोकं रोदनमेव च
Seeing Hari, she abandoned her grief and her weeping.
चकार श्रीहरिं क्रोडे विजहार स्मरातुरा
She embraced Śrī Hari and, overcome with love, sported with him.
वरं तस्यै ददौ प्रीत्या प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणः
With a pleased and smiling face, he granted her a boon out of affection.
यथा राधा तत्समा त्वं भविष्यसि प्रिया मम
Just as Rādhā is, so you shall be, my beloved.
इत्युक्तवंतं श्रीकृष्णं वसंतं विरजांतिके
To Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who spoke thus and was staying near Virajā—
श्रुत्वा रुरोष सा देवी सुष्वाप क्रोधमंदिरे 4.3.
Hearing this, that goddess became angry and slept in the mansion of wrath.
स तस्थौ राधिकाद्वारे श्रीदाम्ना सह नारद
Nārada, together with Śrīdāma, stood at the door of Rādhikā.
मत्तो बहुतराः कांता गोलोके संति ते हरे
O Hari, there are many more beloveds than me in Goloka.
विरजा प्रेयसी कांता सरिद्रूपा बभूव ह
Virajā, the beloved, became a river in form.
तत्तीरे मंदिरं कृत्वा तिष्ठ तिष्ठ च याहि ताम्
Build a temple on that bank and remain there; stay, and then go to her.
नदस्य नद्या सार्द्धं च संगमो गुणवान्भवेत्
The confluence of the river with the stream becomes endowed with virtue.
