Who is both with attributes and without attributes, whose form is the grace bestowed upon devotees,
Who is made of his own will, an ocean of compassion, friend of the humble, lord of sages,
Creator of both the higher and lower beings, honored by Indra,
The auspiciousness of all that is auspicious, the cause of all auspiciousness,
Quick to be pleased, with a cheerful face, affectionate toward those who seek refuge,
Thus Parashurama stood, having spoken, before Ganesha.
Wait a moment, wait a moment, listen, brother, to these words.
The lowest among men is he who sees a man together with a woman,
Especially his father, teacher, lord of beings, or a twice-born,
A wise person should not see anyone engaged in secret intercourse,
For him, separation from women will surely occur for seven births; even if deluded by desire, he certainly becomes blind.
Hearing the words of Ganesha, the son of Bhrigu laughed.
Paraśurāma said: This, indeed, I have not heard spoken from the mouth of the Lord.
I have heard this statement in the scriptures, concerning those who are passionate and subject to change. I will go to your inner chambers, brother; why do you remain, child?
As I see fit, I will act according to my purpose and the proper time.
Those two, Pārvatī and the Supreme Lord, are the parents of the worlds.
Śaṅkara is of all forms, and Pārvatī is of all forms as well.
Play, shame, and fear of reproach belong only to the worldly, not to the Lord.
Whence is shame for the embodiment of shame? And for the Lord of shame, from where does it arise?
Cold and coldness, O brother, and heat and burning—how can these affect Him?
How can fever afflict Him, when fever is destroyed by Him, and disease itself perishes?
The creator creates the creator; what does the protector protect, according to your view?
Sleep causes sleep, beauty causes beauty, prosperity causes prosperity, and peace causes peace, according to your view. The Supreme Self exists within the self; why should power fear power?
Desire and anger, greed and delusion, do not trouble the true self.
What change is there in knowledge and intellect? Old age does not afflict old age.
Does joy attain happiness? Sorrow does not afflict sorrow.
What is the source of the power of retention in intelligence, or of remembrance in memory?
Therefore, brother, you have acted contrary to what is proper.
Having spoken thus, Paraśurāma laughed eternally.
Hearing those words of Rāma, Gaṇeśvara, who had conquered anger, listened.
