प्राणाधिष्ठातृदेवी या कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः
She is the goddess presiding over life, belonging to Kṛṣṇa, the supreme self.
ऐश्वर्य्याधिष्ठातृदेवी सर्वमङ्गलकारिणी
She is the goddess presiding over sovereignty, the bestower of all auspiciousness.
विद्याधिष्ठातृदेवी या परमेशस्य दुर्लभा
She who is the goddess presiding over knowledge, who is most difficult to attain even for the Supreme Lord,
बुद्ध्यधिष्ठातृदेवी या सर्वशक्तिस्वरूपिणी
She who is the goddess presiding over intellect, who is the very embodiment of all powers,
वागधिष्ठातृदेवी या शास्त्रज्ञानप्रदा सदा
She who is the goddess presiding over speech, who always bestows knowledge of the scriptures,
पञ्चधाऽऽदौ स्वयं देवी मूलप्रकृतिरीश्वरी
In the beginning, the goddess herself became fivefold, the primal nature, the sovereign Lady.
योषितः प्रकृतेरंशाः पुमांसः पुरुषस्य च
Women are portions of Prakriti, and men are of Purusha.
सृष्टिश्च प्रतिविश्वेषु ब्रह्मन्ब्रह्मोद्भवा सदा
And creation in every universe, O Brahman, always arises from Brahma.
दत्तदत्तं ज्ञानमिदं राम मह्यं च पुष्करे 3.40.
This knowledge, O Rama, was given and received by me at Pushkara.
इत्युक्त्वा कार्त्तवीर्य्यश्च रामं नत्वा च सस्मितः
Having spoken thus, Kartavirya bowed to Rama with a smile.
रामस्ततो राजसैन्यं ब्रह्मास्त्रेण जघान ह
Then Rama struck down the royal army with the Brahma weapon.
एवं त्रिस्सप्तकृत्वश्च क्रमेण च वसुन्धराम्
In this way, three times seven times, he traversed the earth in succession.
गर्भस्थं मातुरङ्कस्थं शिशुं वृद्धं च मध्यमम्
Whether in the womb, on the mother's lap, as a child, old, or in the prime of life,
कार्त्तवीर्य्यश्च गोलोकं त्वगमत्कृष्णसन्निधिम्
Kartavirya then went to Goloka, into the presence of Krishna.
त्रिस्सप्तकृत्वो निर्भूपां महीं दृष्ट्वा महेश्वरः
Having seen the earth emptied of kings three times seven, the great Lord,
देवाश्च मुनयो देव्यः सिद्धगन्धर्वकिन्नराः
The gods, sages, goddesses, perfected beings, Gandharvas, and Kinnaras,
स्वर्गे दुन्दुभयो नेदुर्हर्षशब्दो बभूव ह
In heaven, the drums resounded and a sound of joy arose.
ब्रह्मा भृगुश्च शुक्रश्च वाल्मीकिश्च्यवनस्तथा
Brahma, Bhrigu, Shukra, Valmiki, and also Chyavana,
पुलकाञ्चितसर्वाङ्गाः सानन्दाश्च समन्विताः ।। 3.40.
All were filled with joy, their bodies bristling with delight.
प्रणनाम च तान्रामो दण्डवत्पतितो भुवि
And Rama bowed to them, falling prostrate upon the ground.
तमुवाचाथ परशुरामं ब्रह्मा जगद्गुरुः
Then Brahmā, the teacher of the world, spoke to Paraśurāma.
ब्रह्मोवाच काण्वशाखोक्तवचनं सत्यं वै सर्वसम्मतम्
Brahmā said: The statement spoken in the Kāṇva branch is indeed true and accepted by all.
पूज्यानामेव सर्वेषामिष्टः पूज्यतमः परः
Among all those who are to be honored, the most desirable and supremely worthy of honor is he.
गरीयाञ्जन्मदातुश्च सोऽन्नदाता पिता मुने
O sage, the giver of food, the father, is greater even than the giver of birth.
तयोः शतगुणं माता पूज्या मान्या च वन्दिता
The mother is a hundred times more worthy of honor, respect, and reverence than those two.
तेभ्यः शतगुणं पूज्योऽभीष्टदेवः श्रुतौ श्रुतः
The deity one desires, as heard in the scriptures, is a hundred times more worthy of worship than them.
गुरुवद्गुरुपुत्रश्च गुरुपत्नी ततोऽधिका
The son of the teacher is like the teacher, and the teacher's wife is even greater than him.
गुरुर्ज्ञानं ददात्येव ज्ञानं च हरिभक्तिदम् 3.40.
The guru indeed gives knowledge, and that knowledge bestows devotion to Hari.
अज्ञानतिमिराच्छन्नो ज्ञानदीपं यतो लभेत्
Covered by the darkness of ignorance, one obtains the lamp of knowledge from him.
गुरुदत्तं सुमन्त्रं च जप्त्वा ज्ञानं ततो लभेत्
By reciting the good mantra given by the guru, one then attains knowledge.
