ॐ ह्रीं दुर्गायै स्वाहा च हस्तौ पादौ सदाऽवतु
May the mantra 'Om hrīṃ durgāyai svāhā' always protect my hands and feet.
प्राच्यां पातु महामाया चाग्नेय्यां पातु कालिका
In the east, may Mahāmāyā protect me; in the southeast, may Kālikā be my guardian.
पश्चिमे पार्वती पातु वाराही वारुणे सदा
In the west, may Pārvatī protect me; in the northwest, may Vārāhī always guard me.
ऊर्ध्वं नारायणी पातु त्वम्बिकाऽधः सदाऽवतु
Above, may Nārāyaṇī protect me; below, may Ambikā always watch over me.
इति ते कथितं वत्स सर्वमन्त्रौघविग्रहम्
Thus, O child, I have told you the collection of all mantras in their entirety.
सुस्नातः सर्वतीर्थेषु सर्वयज्ञेषु यत्फलम्
The merit gained by bathing in all sacred waters and performing all sacrifices—
गुरुमभ्यर्च्य विधिवद्वस्त्रालंकारचन्दनैः 3.39.
—after duly worshipping the guru with garments, ornaments, and sandalwood—
स च त्रैलोक्यविजयी सर्वशत्रुप्रमर्दकः
—that person becomes victorious over the three worlds and destroys all enemies.
शतलक्षं प्रजप्तोऽपि न मन्त्रः सिद्धिदायकः
Even if a mantra is recited a hundred thousand times, it does not grant success—
कवचं काण्वशाखोक्तमुक्तं नारद सिद्धिदम्
—but this armor, as spoken in the Kāṇva branch, O Nārada, grants success.
इति श्रीब्रह्मवैवर्ते महापुराणे तृतीये गणपतिखण्डे नारदनारायणसंवादे दुर्गतिनाशिनीकवचं नामैकोनचत्वारिंशतमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the forty-first chapter named 'The Armor that Destroys Misfortune' in the dialogue between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa, in the third section, Gaṇapati-khaṇḍa, of the great Purāṇa Śrī Brahmavaivarta.
नारायण उवाच सपुत्रं च सहस्राक्षं जघान भृगुनन्दनः
Nārāyaṇa said: The son of Bhṛgu struck down Sahasrākṣa along with his sons.
कृत्वा युद्धं तु सप्ताहं ब्रह्मास्त्रेण प्रयत्नतः पतिते तु सहस्राक्षे कार्तवीर्य्यार्जुनः स्वयम्
After fighting for seven days, carefully employing the Brahmāstra, when Sahasrākṣa had fallen, Kārtavīrya Arjuna himself—
सुवर्णरथमारुह्य रत्नसारपरिच्छदम्
—mounted a golden chariot adorned with the finest jewels.
समरे तं परशुरामो राजेन्द्रं च ददर्श ह
In battle, Paraśurāma saw that king.
रत्नातपत्रभूषाढ्यं रत्नालंकारभूषितम्
He was adorned with a jeweled parasol and decorated with ornaments of gems.
राजा दृष्ट्वा मुनीन्द्रं तमवरुह्म रथादहो
The king, seeing that sage among sages, descended from his chariot—indeed!
ददौ शुभाशिषं तस्मै रामश्च समयोचितम्
He offered him auspicious blessings, and Rāma responded appropriately.
उभयोः सेनयोर्युद्धमभवत्तत्र नारद क्षतविक्षतसर्वाङ्गाः कार्त्तवीर्य्यप्रपीडिताः
O Nārada, battle arose between both armies; all were wounded and battered, oppressed by Kārtavīrya.
नृपस्य शरजालेन रामः शस्त्रभृतां वरः 3.40.
Rāma, foremost among wielders of weapons, was struck by the king's shower of arrows.
चिक्षेप रामश्चाग्नेयं बभूवाग्निमयं रणे
Rāma hurled the Agneya weapon, which became a fiery force in the battle.
चिक्षेप रामो गान्धर्वं शैलसर्पसमन्वितम्
Rāma launched the Gāndharva weapon, accompanied by mountain-serpents.
चिक्षेप रामो नागास्त्रं दुर्निवार्य्यं भयंकरम्
Rāma cast the Nāga weapon, difficult to resist and terrifying.
माहेश्वरं च भगवांश्चिक्षेप भृगुनन्दनः
The blessed son of Bhṛgu also hurled the Māheśvara weapon.
ब्रह्मास्त्रं चिक्षिपे रामो नृपनाशाय नारद
Rāma released the Brahma weapon, O Nārada, for the destruction of the king.
दत्तदत्तं च यच्छूलमव्यर्थं मन्त्रपूर्वकम्
He gave and received the spear, unfailing and empowered by mantra.
शूलं ददर्श रामश्च शतसूर्य्यसमप्रभम्
Rāma saw the spear, shining like a hundred suns.
पपात शूलं समरे रामस्योपरि नारद
The spear fell upon Rāma in the battle, O Nārada.
पतिते तु तदा रामे सर्वे देवा भयाकुलाः
When Rāma fell, all the gods were seized by fear.
शङ्करश्च महाज्ञानी महाज्ञानेन लीलया 3.40.
Śaṅkara, the great knower, acted playfully with supreme wisdom.
