धर्मार्थकाममोक्षेषु विनियोगः प्रकीर्तितः
Its application is declared in the pursuits of righteousness, wealth, pleasure, and liberation.
ॐ ह्रीं कमलवासिन्यै स्वाहा मे पातु मस्तकम्।। श्रीं मे पातु कपालं च लोचने श्रीं श्रियै नमः
Om hrīṃ, to the One who dwells in the lotus, svāhā—may she protect my head; śrīṃ—may she protect my skull, and śrīṃ, homage to Śrī, may she protect my eyes.
ॐ श्रीं क्लीं महालक्ष्म्यै स्वाहा मे पातु नासिकाम
Om śrīṃ klīṃ, to Mahālakṣmī, svāhā—may she protect my nose.
ॐ श्रीं पद्मालयायै च स्वाहा दन्तान्सदाऽवतु
Om śrīṃ, to Padmālayā, svāhā—may she always protect my teeth.
ॐ श्रीं नारायणेशायै मम कण्ठं सदाऽवतु
Om śrīṃ, to Nārāyaṇeśī, may she always protect my throat.
ॐ श्रीं पद्मनिवासिन्यै स्वाहा नाभिं सदाऽवतु 3.38.
Om śrīṃ, to the One who dwells in the lotus, svāhā—may she always protect my navel.
ओं श्रीं मों कृष्णकान्तायै स्वाहा पृष्ठं सदाऽवतु
Om śrīṃ moṃ, to Kṛṣṇa's beloved, svāhā—may she always protect my back.
ॐ श्रीनिवासकान्तायै मम पदौ सदाऽवतु
To the beloved of Śrīnivāsa, may she always protect my feet.
प्राच्यां पातु महालक्ष्मीराग्नेय्यां कमलालया
In the east, may Mahālakṣmī protect me; in the southeast, Kamalālayā.
पद्मालया पश्चिमे मां वायव्यां पातु सा स्वयम्
Padmālayā in the west, may she protect me; in the northwest, may she herself protect me.
नारायणी च पातूर्ध्वमधो विष्णुप्रियाऽवतु
May Nārāyaṇī protect above, and Viṣṇu's beloved protect below.
इति ते कथितं वत्स सर्वमन्त्रौघविग्रहम्
Thus, O child, I have told you the entire collection of mantras.
सुवर्णपर्वतं दत्त्वा मेरुतुल्यं द्विजातये
Having given a mountain of gold, equal to Mount Meru, to a twice-born one,
गुरुमभ्यर्च्य विधिवत्कवचं धारयेत्तु यः
Who, having duly worshipped the guru, wears the protective amulet—
स सर्वपुण्यवान्धीमान्सर्वयज्ञेषु दीक्षितः 3.38.
He is endowed with all merit, wise, and initiated in all sacrifices.
यस्मै कस्मै न दातव्यं लोभमोहभयैरपि
This should not be given to just anyone, even out of greed, delusion, or fear.
इदं कवचमज्ञात्वा जपेल्लक्ष्मीं जगत्प्रभुम्
Whoever recites Lakshmi or the Lord of the Universe without knowing this amulet—
नारद उवाच परं दुर्गतिनाशिन्याः कवचं कथय प्रभो
Nārada said: O Lord, tell me the supreme protective amulet of Durgatināśinī.
पद्माक्षप्राणतुल्यं च जीवनं बलकारणम्
It is as dear as life to Padmākṣa, and the cause of vitality and strength.
नारायण उवाच श्रीकृष्णेनैव यद्दत्तं गोलोके ब्रह्मणे पुरा
Nārāyaṇa said: That which was given by Śrī Kṛṣṇa in Goloka to Brahmā long ago,
ब्रह्मा त्रिपुरसंग्रामे शंकराय ददौ पुरा
Brahmā, in the battle of Tripura, formerly gave it to Śaṃkara.
हरो ददौ गौतमाय पद्माक्षाय च गौतमः
Hara gave it to Gautama, and Gautama to Padmākṣa.
यद्धृत्वा पठनाद्ब्रह्मा ज्ञानवाञ्छक्तिमान्भुवि शिवतुल्यो गौतमश्च बभूव मुनिसत्तमः
By wearing and reciting it, Brahmā became wise and powerful on earth; and Gautama, the best of sages, became equal to Śiva.
ब्रह्माण्डविजयस्यास्य कवचस्य प्रजापतिः
This is the protective amulet for victory over the universe, O Lord of creatures.
ब्रह्माण्डविजये चैव विनियोगः प्रकीर्त्तितः
And the application for victory over the universe has been declared.
ॐ ह्रीं दुर्गतिनाशिन्यै स्वाहा मे पातु मस्तकम्
Om hrīṃ, to Durgatināśinī, svāhā—may she protect my head.
पातु मे कर्णयुग्मं चाप्यों दुर्गायै नमः सदा 3.39.
May she always protect both my ears—om, obeisance to Durgā.
ह्रीं श्रीं क्रूमिति दन्तांश्च पातु क्लीमोष्ठयुग्मकम्
Hrīṃ, śrīṃ, krūm—may she protect my teeth; klīm—may she protect both my lips.
स्कन्धं महाकालि दुर्गे स्वाहा पातु निरन्तरम्
May Mahākālī Durgā, svāhā, always protect my shoulders.
दुर्गे दुर्गे रक्ष पार्श्वौ स्वाहा नाभिं सदाऽवतु
O Durgā, O Durgā, protect my sides; svāhā, may she always guard my navel.
