कुशपुत्तलिकां चैव शवदाहनकारिणम्

Cotton, a tortoise, powder, a dog, and one who makes loud noises.
कपर्दकं च क्षौरं च च्छिन्नकेशं नखं मलम्
A cowrie shell, shaving, one with cut hair, nails, and filth.
अमङ्गलं रुदन्तं च रुदन्तं शोककारिणम्
Inauspiciousness, one who weeps, and one who causes grief by weeping.
मिथ्यासाक्ष्य प्रदातारं चौरं च नरघातिनम्
One who gives false testimony, a thief, and a murderer of men.
देवतागुरुविप्राणां वस्तुवित्तापहारिणम्
One who steals the property or wealth of deities, teachers, or Brahmins.
पितृमातृविरक्तं च द्विजाश्वत्थविघातिनम्
One who is estranged from father and mother, and one who harms Brahmins or the sacred fig tree.
विप्रमित्रद्रोहमेवं क्षतं विश्वासघातकम्
One who betrays a Brahmin friend, wounds, and breaks trust.
जीवानां घातकं चैव स्वांगहीनं च निर्दयम् 3.35.
One who kills living beings, who is crippled, and who is merciless.
गलितव्याधिगात्रं च काणं बधिरमेव च
One whose body is afflicted by disease, one who is one-eyed, and one who is deaf.
क्षिप्तं वमन्तं रुधिरं महिषं गर्दभं तथा
One who is cast out, who vomits blood, a buffalo, and likewise a donkey.
चण्डवातं रक्तवृष्टिं वाद्यं वै वृक्षपातनम्
Violent wind, rain of blood, drums, and the felling of trees.
पाशं च शुष्ककाष्ठं च वायसं गन्धकं तथा
A noose, dry wood, a crow, and also sulphur.
प्रतिग्राहिब्राह्मणं च तन्त्रमन्त्रोपजीविनम्
A Brahmin who accepts gifts, and one who lives by tantra or mantras.
कुवार्त्तां मृतवार्तां च विप्रशापं च दारुणम्
Bad news, news of death, and the terrible curse of a Brahmin.
मनश्च कुत्सितं प्राणाः क्षुभिताश्च निरन्तरम्
A mind that is despicable, and breath that is constantly agitated.
तथाऽपि राजा निश्शङ्को ददर्श समराङ्गणम्
Still, the king, without fear, looked upon the battlefield.
अवरुह्य रथात्तूर्णं दृष्ट्वा च पुरतो भृगुम्
Descending quickly from his chariot, he saw Bhrigu standing before him.
आशिषं युयुजे रामः स्वर्गं याहीति वाञ्छितम् 3.35.

स्वयं विद्वांश्च वेदांश्च श्रुत्वा वेदविदो मुखात्

त्वं पूर्वमहनो लोभान्निरीहं ब्राह्मणं कथम्
How did you, who formerly destroyed evil, out of greed harm a blameless Brahmin?
किं भविष्यति ते भूप परत्रैवानयोर्वधात्
O king, what will happen to you hereafter because of the killing of these two?
सत्कीर्त्तिश्चाथ दुष्कीर्तिः कथामात्रावशेषिता
Only a tale remains of either good or bad fame.
क्व गता कपिला त्वं क्व क्व विवादो मुनिः कुतः
Where has Kapila gone? Where are you? Where is the dispute? Where is the sage from?
त्वामुपोषितमीशं हि दृष्ट्वा तातो हि धार्मिकः 3.35.
Seeing you, O lord, being honored, my father, who was righteous, indeed—
अधीतं विधिवद्दत्तं ब्राह्मणेभ्यो दिने दिने
What was studied was duly given to the Brahmins day by day.
