सुवेषया कन्यका स स्मितेन द्विजेन च
He saw a maiden beautifully adorned, and a Brahmin with a smile.
फलितं पुष्पितं वृक्षं देवताप्रतिमां नृपम्
He saw a tree bearing fruit and flowers, an image of a deity, and a king.
पीतवस्त्रपरीधानां रत्नालङ्कारभूषिताम्
He saw women dressed in yellow garments, adorned with jeweled ornaments.
शंखं च स्फटिकं श्वेतमालां मुक्तां च चन्दनम्
He saw a conch, crystal, a white garland, pearls, and sandalwood.
गजं वृषं च सर्पं च श्वेतं च श्वेतचामरम्

अकस्मान्निगडैर्बद्धं क्षतं शस्त्रेण स्वं पुनः

He, exceedingly delighted by the dream, performed his morning duties.
नारायण उवाच दूतं प्रस्थापयामास कार्त्तवीर्य्याश्रमं भृगुः
Nārāyaṇa said: Bhṛgu sent a messenger to the hermitage of Kārtavīrya.
स दूतःशीघ्रमागत्य वसन्तं राजसंसदि
That messenger, arriving swiftly, saw him in the royal assembly.
रामदूत उवाच स भृगुर्भ्रातृभिः सार्द्धं तत्र त्वं गन्तुमर्हसि
The messenger of Rāma said: That Bhṛgu, together with his brothers, you ought to go there.
युद्धं कुरु महाराज जातिभिर्ज्ञातिभिः सह
O great king, wage battle along with your kinsmen and relatives.
इत्युक्त्वा रामदूतश्चाप्यगच्छद्रामसन्निधिम्
Having spoken thus, the messenger of Rāma also went to the presence of Rāma.
गच्छन्तं समरं दृष्ट्वा प्राणेशं सा मनोरमा
Seeing the lord of life going to battle, that Manoramā—
राजा मनोरमां दृष्ट्वा प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणः
The king, seeing Manoramā, with a cheerful face and gaze—
कार्त्तवीर्य्यार्जुन उवाच स तिष्ठन्नर्म्मदातीरे रणाय भ्रातृभिः सह
Kārtavīryārjuna said: He stands on the bank of the Narmadā, ready for battle with his brothers.
सम्प्राप्य शङ्कराच्छस्त्रं मन्त्रं च कवचं हरेः ।' त्रिस्सप्तकृत्वो निर्भूपां कर्तुमिच्छति मेदिनीम्
Having obtained the weapon from Śaṅkara, and the mantra and armor of Hari, he wishes to make the earth devoid of kings three times seven times.
आन्दोलयन्ति मे प्राणा मनः संक्षुभितं मुहुः 3.34.
My life-forces are shaken, and my mind is repeatedly disturbed.
