Various kinds of weapons, missiles, and mantras, all according to prescribed procedures.
आत्मरक्षणसन्धानं संग्रामविजयक्रमम्
Methods for self-protection, strategies for victory in battle.
रक्षणं च स्वसैन्यानां परसैन्यविमर्दनम् संहारे मोहिनीं विद्यां ददौ मृत्युहरां हरः
Protection of one's own troops, crushing the enemy forces; and in destruction, the Mohinī knowledge, which removes death, was given by Hara.
स्थित्वा चिरं गुरोर्वांसे सर्वविद्यां विबोध्य सः
Having remained for a long time in the lineage of the guru, he mastered all knowledge.
नारद उवाच कृपयाऽदात्परशुरामाय स्तोत्रं च वर्म च
Nārada said: Out of compassion, he gave Paraśurāma both the hymn and the armor.
को वाऽस्य मन्त्रस्याराध्यः किं फलं कवचस्य च
Who is the deity to be worshipped for this mantra, and what is the result of the armor?
नारायण उवाच गोलोकनाथः श्रीकृष्णो गोपगोपीश्वरः प्रभुः
Nārāyaṇa said: The Lord of Goloka, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, master of the cowherds and gopīs.
त्रैलोक्यविजयं नाम कवचं परमाद्भुतम्
The armor named 'Victory over the Three Worlds' is supremely wondrous.
मन्त्रं कल्पतरुं नाम सर्वकामफलप्रदम्
The mantra called 'Kalpataru' grants all desired fruits.
स्वयंप्रभानदीतीरे पारिजातवनान्तरे
On the bank of the self-luminous river, within the grove of Pārijāta trees.
महादेव उवाच पुत्राधिकोऽसि प्रेम्णा मे कवचग्रहणं कुरु
Mahādeva said: You are dearer to me than a son; accept the armor out of my love.
शृणु राम प्रवक्ष्यामि ब्रह्माण्डे परमाद्भुतम्
Listen, Rāma, I will declare to you something supremely wondrous in the universe.
श्रीकृष्णेन पुरा दत्तं गोलोके राधिकाश्रमे

वेदाश्च धर्म्मवक्तारो यद्धृत्वा पठनाद् भृगो सनत्कुमारो भगवान्यद्धृत्वा ज्ञानिनां वरः
Having taken it and recited, the Vedas and the proclaimers of dharma endure; having taken it, the venerable Bhṛgu and Sanatkumāra, the foremost among the wise, endure.
