आलयस्य पुरस्तत्र सिंहद्वारं ददर्श सः
There, before the palace, he saw a lion-gate.
शोभितं वेदिकाभिश्च बाह्याभ्यन्तरतः सदा
Always splendid with altars both outside and within,
नानाप्रकारचित्रेण चित्रितं सुमनोहरम्
Decorated with various delightful and wondrous designs,
महाकरालदन्तास्यौ विरक्तौ रक्तलोचनौ
With great, terrifying fangs and mouths, fierce and red-eyed,
विभूतिभूषितांगौ च व्याघ्रचर्माम्बरौ वरौ
Their bodies adorned with sacred ash, clad in tiger skins, noble in form,
त्रिशूलपट्टिशधरौ ज्वलन्तौ ब्रह्मतेजसा
Holding tridents and spears, blazing with the radiance of Brahman,
विनयेन विनीतश्च दुर्विनीतौ महाबलौ
Humbled by humility, yet of immense strength and difficult to subdue,
विप्रस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा कृपायुक्तौ बभूवतुः
Hearing the words of the brāhmaṇa, they became filled with compassion.
प्रवेष्टुमाज्ञां ददतुरीश्वरानुचरौ वरौ
Those two noble attendants of the Lord granted him permission to enter.
प्रत्येकं षोडश द्वारो ददर्श सुमनोहराः
He saw, one by one, sixteen most delightful gates.
दृष्ट्वा ता महदाश्चर्य्यादपश्यच्छूलिनः सभाम्
Seeing them, Śūlina beheld the assembly with great wonder.
पारिजातसुगन्धाढ्यवायुना सुरभीकृताम्
Made fragrant by the wind rich with the scent of pārijāta flowers.
त्रिशूलपट्टिशधरं व्याघ्रचर्माम्बरं परम् रत्नसिंहासनस्थं च रत्नभूषणभूषितम्
Bearing trident and spear, clad in tiger skin, supreme, seated upon a jeweled throne, adorned with jeweled ornaments.
महाशिवं शिवकरं शिवबीजं शिवाश्रयम्
The great Śiva, the source of auspiciousness, the seed of Śiva, the refuge of Śiva.
ईषद्धास्यं प्रसन्नास्यं भक्तानुग्रहकातरम्
With a slight smile, a serene face, eager to bestow grace upon devotees.
धृतवन्तं जटाजालं दक्षकन्यासमन्वितम्
Wearing matted locks, accompanied by the daughter of Dakṣa.
शुद्धस्फटिकसंकाशं पञ्च वक्त्रं त्रिलोचनम्
Resembling pure crystal, with five faces, and three eyes.
स्तूयमानं च योगीन्द्रैः सिद्धेन्द्रैः परिसेवितम्
Praised by great yogis, served by accomplished beings.
ध्यायमानं परं ब्रह्म परिपूर्णतमं परम्
Meditated upon as the supreme Brahman, the most fully complete, the highest.
ज्योतीरूपं च सर्वाद्यं श्रीकृष्णं प्रकृतेः परम् सुस्वरं साश्रुनेत्रं तमुद्गायन्तं गुणार्णवम्
Of the form of light, the origin of all, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, beyond Prakṛti, singing with a melodious voice and tearful eyes, the ocean of virtues.
भूतेन्द्रैर्वै रुद्रगणैः क्षेत्रपालैश्च वेष्टितम्
Surrounded by the lords of beings, the hosts of Rudras, and the guardians of the quarters.
तद्वामे कार्त्तिकेयं च दक्षिणे च गणेश्वरम् अंके ददर्श कान्तां तां गौरीं शैलेन्द्रकन्यकाम्
On his left, Kārttikeya; on his right, Gaṇeśvara; in his lap, he saw his beloved, Gaurī, the daughter of the mountain.
ननाम सर्वान्मूर्ध्ना च भक्त्या च परया मुदा
He bowed to all with his head, with supreme devotion and joy.
सगद्गदपदं दीनस्साश्रुनेत्रोऽतिकातरः
With faltering words, humble, with tearful eyes, exceedingly anxious.
परशुराम उवाच अक्षराक्षयबीजं च किं वा स्तौमि निरीहकम्
Paraśurāma said: What seed, imperishable and eternal, or what inactive one, shall I praise?
न योजनां कर्त्तुमीशो देवेशं स्तौमि मूढधीः
Unable to compose praise, I, of confused mind, praise the lord of gods.
वाग्बुद्धिमनसां दूरं सारात्सारं परात्परम्
Beyond speech, intellect, and mind; the essence of essences, the highest of the high.
यमाकाशमिवाद्यन्तमध्यहीनं तथाऽव्ययम्
Who, like space, is without beginning, middle, or end, and thus imperishable.
ध्यानासाध्यं दुराराध्यमतिसाध्यं कृपानिधिम्
He who is attainable through meditation, difficult to approach, yet easily reached by the compassionate.
अद्य मे सफलं जन्म जीवितं च सुजीवितम्
Today my birth has become fruitful, and my life has been well lived.
