रैवतं च वराहं च श्रीशैलं गन्धमादनम्
Raivata, Varāha, Śrīśaila, and Gandhamādana mountains.
वाराणसीं प्रयागं च पुण्यं वृन्दावनं वनम्
Vārāṇasī, Prayāga, and the holy forest of Vṛndāvana.
चन्दनागरुकस्तूरीसुगन्धिकुसुमं तथा
Sandalwood, agarwood, musk, fragrant flowers as well.
कर्णाक्षिनासिकास्ये त्वं शलाकां च हिरण्मयीम्
A golden rod for the ear, eye, nose, and mouth.
सतिलं ताम्रपात्रं च धेनुं च रजतं तथा
Sesame, a copper vessel, a cow, and also silver.
ॐ कृत्वा दुष्कृतं कर्म्म जानता वाऽप्यजानता
Having uttered 'Om', whether knowingly or unknowingly, one performs evil deeds.
धर्माधर्मसमायुक्तं लोभमोहसमावृतम्
Actions mixed with righteousness and unrighteousness, enveloped by greed and delusion.
इमं मन्त्रं पठित्वा तु तातं कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणम्
Reciting this mantra and circumambulating, O child.
ॐ अस्मत्कुले त्वं जातोऽसि त्वदीयो जायतां पुनः
Oṃ, you have been born in our lineage; may one of yours be born again.
अग्निं देहि शिरःस्थाने हे भृगो भ्रातृभिः सह
Place the fire at the head, O Bhṛgu, together with your brothers.
अथ पुत्रं रेणुका सा कृत्वा तत्र स्ववक्षसि
Then Reṇukā, making her son, placed him there upon her own breast.
अविरोधो भवाब्धौ च सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गलम्
Let there be no opposition in the ocean of existence; let all be auspicious and inauspicious.
अकर्तव्यो विरोधो वै दारुणैः क्षत्रियैः सह
One must not engage in conflict with fierce kṣatriyas.
आलोच्य ब्रह्मणा सार्द्धं भृगुणा दिव्यमन्त्रिणा
Having deliberated together with Brahmā and the divine sage Bhṛgu,
इत्युक्त्वा तं परित्यज्य कान्तं कृत्वा स्ववक्षसि
Having spoken thus, she abandoned him, her beloved, holding him to her breast.
वह्निं ददौ चितायां च स रामो भ्रातृभिः सह
Rāma, together with his brothers, placed the fire upon the funeral pyre.
राम रामेति रामेति वाक्यमुच्चार्य्य सा सती
Uttering the words 'Rāma, Rāma,' that faithful wife spoke.
भर्तुर्नाम समाकर्ण्य तत्राजग्मुर्हरेश्चराः
Hearing her husband's name, the attendants of Hari arrived there.
शङ्खचक्रगदापद्मधारिणो वनमालिनः
They bore conch, discus, mace, and lotus, adorned with forest garlands.
रथे कृत्वा रेणुकां तां गत्वा ते ब्रह्मणः पदम्
Placing Reṇukā upon a chariot, they went to the abode of Brahmā.
तौ दम्पती च वैकुण्ठे तस्थतुर्हरिसन्निधौ
The couple stood in Vaikuṇṭha in the presence of Hari.
अथ रामो ब्राह्मणैश्च भृगुणा सह नारद
Then Rāma, along with the brāhmaṇas, Bhṛgu, and Nārada,
गोभूहिरण्यवासांसि दिव्यशय्यां मनोरमाम्
Cows, land, gold, garments, and a delightful divine bed—
रत्नदीपं रौप्यशैलं सुवर्णासनमुत्तमम्
A jeweled lamp, a silver mountain, and an excellent golden throne—
छत्रं च पादुके चैव फलं माल्यं मनोहरम् ब्राह्मणेभ्यो धनं दत्त्वा ब्रह्मलोकं जगाम सः
An umbrella, sandals, fruit, and charming garlands—having given wealth to the brāhmaṇas, he went to Brahmā's world.
ददर्श ब्रह्मलोकं स शातकुम्भविनिर्मितम्
He beheld Brahmā's world, made of refined gold.
ददर्श तत्र ब्रह्माणं ज्वलन्तं ब्रह्मतेजसा
There, he saw Brahma shining with the radiance of Brahman.
सिद्धैस्तपश्चान्द्रायणैर्ऋषीन्द्रैः परिवेष्टितम्
Surrounded by accomplished sages, ascetics, and great rishis who had performed Chandrayana austerities.
संगीतमुपशृण्वन्तं गीयमानं च गायकैः
Listening to music and songs being sung by singers.
तपसां फलदातारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम्
The giver of the fruits of austerities, the bestower of all wealth.
