Then the king, greatly enraged, saw near him—
He took up, after bowing, that formidable spear which had been given to him.
That energy which belongs to all the gods, and the energy of Nārāyaṇa as well—
There itself, the yogi invoked it with proper mantras.
Seeing her hurling it, the gods cried out in distress.
Kārtavīrya Arjuna himself hurled it, shattering it to pieces.
The energy of the sage Vidarīyya departed and went into the presence of Hari.
Falling into unconsciousness, that sage at that very moment gave up his life.
Seeing the sage dead in battle, Kapila wept again and again.
She went to Goloka and told everything to Krishna, the Lord.
That which was given by Krishna to Brahma, and by Brahma to Bhrigu in ancient times.
Having bowed to the assembly of wish-fulfilling cows, she departed.
Then the king, having slain him, encouraged his own army.
Hearing that her beloved was dead, the faithful Renuka came.
Then, regaining consciousness, the devoted wife did not weep.
Bhrigu quickly arrived there in a moment from Pushkara, O wonder!
Seeing his father dead and his mother, the faithful one, afflicted with grief, Rama—
There Rama lamented greatly, crying, 'O father! O mother!'
Renuka, taking Rama, quickly held him to her breast.
Rama, Rama, mighty-armed one, where shall I go, leaving you behind?
O child, dearer to me than life, listen to my words.
Stay happily at home, child, and perform eternal austerity.
Without listening to his mother's words, he made that vow.
I will slay Kartavirya, the lowest of Kshatriyas, with ease.
Having spoken thus, he lamented repeatedly before his mother.
Rama said: The great fool who does not kill shall surely go to Raurava.
One who is always sluggish, a reviler, and speaks harshly—
Taking wealth from Brahmins, and expelling them from their place—
Meanwhile, Bhrigu himself arrived there.
Seeing Renuka and Rama, both bowed in reverence.
