श्रीशैले श्रीवने दिव्ये श्रीनिवासनिषेविते 1.13.
On the sacred mountain, in the divine forest, attended by Śrīnivāsa,
पुरा या या कृता क्रीडा वसन्ते रहसि त्वया
Long ago, whatever playful acts you performed with me in secret during spring—
सुधातुल्येन वचसा सिक्ताऽहं च पुरा त्वया
Once, you drenched me with words as sweet as nectar,
साधुना सह संसर्गो वैकुण्ठादपि दुर्लभः
Association with the virtuous is more difficult to obtain than even Vaikuṇṭha.
तस्मात्तेषां च विच्छेदः साधुशोककरः परः
Therefore, separation from them brings the greatest sorrow to the good.
ततोऽपत्यवियोगो हि मरणादतिरिच्यते
Thus, the loss of a child surpasses even death in pain.
शयने भोजने स्नाने स्वप्ने जागरणेऽपि च
Whether lying down, eating, bathing, dreaming, or awake,
सर्वशोकं विस्मरेत्स्त्री स्वामिसंयोगमात्रतः
A woman forgets all sorrow merely by union with her husband.
नातो विशिष्टं पश्यामि बान्धवं स्वामिना विना
Without my husband, I see no relative as dear.
हे दिगीशाश्च दिक्पाला हे धर्म त्वं प्रजापते
O guardians of the directions, O Dharma, O Lord of creatures,
इत्युक्त्वा विरहार्त्ता सा कन्या चित्ररथस्य च 1.13.
Having spoken thus, tormented by separation, that daughter of Citraratha—
विचेतना तत्र तस्थौ कान्तं कृत्वा स्ववक्षसि
Stood there unconscious, holding her beloved to her breast.
प्रभाते चेतनां प्राप्य विललाप भृशं मुहुः
At dawn, regaining consciousness, she wept bitterly again and again.
मालावत्युवाच त्वमेव जगतां पाता मां न पासि कथं प्रभो
Mālāvatī said: You alone are the protector of all worlds—how is it, Lord, that you do not protect me?
अयं भर्त्ताऽस्य भार्य्याऽहं ममेति तव मायया
By your illusion, this is the husband, I am the wife, and this belongs to me.
गन्धर्वः कर्मणा कान्तः कान्ताऽहं चास्य कर्मणा
By action, he is a Gandharva and my beloved; by action, I am his beloved.
को वा कस्य पतिः पुत्रः का वा कस्य प्रिया प्रभो ।। संयुनक्ति विधाता च विनयुक्ति च कर्मणा
O Lord, who is truly the husband of whom, who is the son of whom, or who is dear to whom? The Creator unites and separates beings according to their deeds.
संयोगे परमानन्दो वियोगे प्राणसङ्कटम्
In union there is supreme joy; in separation, the distress of life itself.
नश्वरो विषयः सत्यं भुवि भोगश्च बान्धवः
Indeed, all objects of enjoyment and even relatives on earth are perishable.
तस्मात्सन्तः स्वयं त्यक्त्वा परमैश्वर्यमीप्सितम्
Therefore, the wise renounce by themselves even the highest desired prosperity.
सर्वत्र ज्ञानिनः सन्तः का स्त्री ज्ञानवती भुवि 1.13.
Everywhere, the wise are rare; and what woman on earth is truly endowed with wisdom?
न मे वाञ्छाऽमरत्वे च शक्रत्वे मोक्षवर्त्मनि
I have no desire for immortality, for the station of Indra, or for the path of liberation.
यावती कामिनीजातिर्जगत्यां जगदीश्वर
O Lord of the world, as many as are the kinds of women in the world,
तस्मै दत्ता गुणाः सर्वे रूपाणि विविधानि च
To them have been given all virtues and various forms.
रूपेण च गुणेनैव तेजसा विक्रमेण च
By beauty, by virtue, by brilliance, and by valor,
हरिभक्तो हरिसमो गाम्भीर्ये सागरो यथा
A devotee of Hari, equal to Hari, in depth like the ocean,
चन्द्रतुल्यः सुदृश्यश्च कन्दर्पसमसुन्दरः
Like the moon in radiance, pleasing to behold, as beautiful as Kāma himself,
वाणी च सर्वशास्त्रज्ञा प्रतिभायां भृगोरिव
In speech and in knowledge of all scriptures, in intelligence like Bṛgu,
धर्मे धर्मसमो धर्मी सत्ये सत्यव्रताधिकः
In righteousness, equal to Dharma; in truth, surpassing even those devoted to truth,
ऐश्वर्य्ये शक्रतुल्यश्च सहिष्णुः पृथिवीसमः
In sovereignty, equal to Indra; in forbearance, like the earth.
