सदन्नं पुरतो दृष्ट्वा मनः पूर्णं तथा मम
Seeing good food placed before me, my mind became completely satisfied.
प्रीत्या स्तनं ददौ तस्मै परमानन्दमानसा
With joy, she gave him her breast, her heart filled with supreme bliss.
चुचुम्ब गण्डे वेदोक्तं युयुजे चाशिषं मुदा
She kissed his cheek as prescribed in the Vedas and gladly bestowed her blessing.
नारायण उवाच विविधानि च रत्नानि द्विजेभ्यो ददतुर्मुदा
Nārāyaṇa said: They joyfully gave various jewels to the twice-born.
बन्दिभ्यो भिक्षुकेभ्यश्च दानानि विविधानि च
They also gave various gifts to bards and beggars.
हिमालयश्च रत्नानां ददौ लक्षं द्विजातये
The Himalaya gave a hundred thousand jewels to the twice-born.
दशलक्षं गवां चैव पञ्चलक्षं सुवर्णकम्
He gave a million cows and five hundred thousand pieces of gold.
अन्यान्यपि च दानानि वस्त्राण्याभरणानि च
He also gave other gifts, including garments and ornaments.
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ विष्णुः कौस्तुभं कौतुकान्वितः सुदुर्लभानि सृष्टौ च ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ मुदा
Viṣṇu gave the Kaustubha gem to the brāhmaṇas with delight; he also joyfully gave them other extremely rare things in creation.
धर्मः सूर्य्यश्च शक्रश्च देवाश्च मुनयस्तथा
Dharma, Sūrya, Śakra, the gods, and the sages likewise,
माणिक्यानां सहस्राणि रत्नानां च शतानि च
Gave thousands of rubies and hundreds of other jewels.
हरिद्वर्णमणीन्द्राणां सहस्राणि मुदाऽन्विताः अमूल्यान्यन्यरत्नानि श्वेतवर्णानि कौतुकात्
Thousands of green gems were given with joy, and other priceless white jewels were given with delight.
शतलक्षं सुवर्णानां वह्निशुद्धांशुकानि च
A hundred thousand pieces of gold and fire-purified cloths were given.
हारं चामूल्यरत्नानां त्रिषु लोकेषु दुर्लभम्
A necklace of priceless jewels, rare in all three worlds, was given.
परिष्कृतं च माणिक्यैर्हीरकैश्च विराजितम्
It was adorned with rubies and shone with diamonds.
त्रैलोक्यसारं हारं च सद्रत्नगणनिर्मितम्
The necklace, essence of the three worlds, was made from a collection of excellent jewels.
लक्षं सुवर्णलोष्टानां धनानि विविधानि च
A hundred thousand gold ingots and various kinds of wealth were given.
दानानि दत्त्वा विप्रेभ्यस्ते सर्वे ददृशुः शिशुम्
After giving gifts to the brāhmaṇas, all of them gazed upon the child.
भारं वोढुमशक्ताश्च ब्राह्मणा बन्दिनस्तथा
The Brahmins and the bards were unable to bear the burden.
कथयन्ति कथाः सर्वे विश्रान्ताः पूर्वदायिनाम्
All, exhausted, recounted stories of those who had given before.
विष्णुः प्रमुदितस्तत्र वादयामास दुन्दुभिम् वेदांश्च पाठयामास पुराणानि च नारद
There, Vishnu, delighted, sounded the drum, and, O Narada, recited the Vedas and the Puranas.
मुनीन्द्रानानयामास पूजयामास तान्मुदा सार्द्धं देवश्चै देवीभिर्ददौ तस्मै शुभाशिषः
He brought the great sages and joyfully honored them; together with the gods and goddesses, he bestowed auspicious blessings upon him.
विष्णुरुवाच पराक्रमे मया तुल्यः सर्वसिद्धीश्वरो भव
Vishnu said: In valor, be equal to me; become the lord of all accomplishments.
ब्रह्मोवाच सर्वेषां पुरतः पूजा भवत्वतिसुदुर्लभा
Brahma said: Let worship before all, which is exceedingly rare, be yours.
धर्म्म उवाच सर्वज्ञश्च दयायुक्तो हरिभक्तो हरेः समः
Dharma said: Be all-knowing, endowed with compassion, devoted to Hari, and equal to Hari.
महादेव उवाच विद्यावान्पुण्यवाञ्छान्तो दान्तश्च प्राणवल्लभ
Mahadeva said: Be learned, virtuous, peaceful, self-controlled, and dear to life.
लक्ष्मीरुवाच पतिव्रता मया तुल्या शान्ता कान्ता मनोहरा
Lakshmi said: May your wife be devoted, equal to me, tranquil, lovely, and enchanting.
सरस्वत्युवाच स्मृतिर्विवेचनाशक्तिर्भवत्वतितरां सुत
Sarasvati said: May you, my child, possess memory and the power of discernment in abundance.
सावित्र्युवाच मन्मन्त्रजपशीलश्च प्रवरो वेदवादिनाम्
Savitri said: Be skilled in reciting my mantra, and foremost among those who speak the Vedas.
हिमालय उवाच श्रीकृष्णतुल्यो गुणवान्भव कृष्णपरायणः
Himalaya said: Be virtuous like Shri Krishna, and devoted to Krishna.
