यस्य स्मरणमात्रेण विघ्ननाशो भवेद्ध्रुवम्
By merely remembering him, obstacles are certainly destroyed.
नानाविधानि द्रव्याणि यस्माद्देयानि पुण्यके
Because of him, various kinds of offerings are to be given in the Puṇyaka vow.
शनिदृष्ट्या शिरश्छेदाद्गजवक्त्रेण योजितः
When his head was severed by the gaze of Śani, he was joined with an elephant’s head.
दन्तभङ्गः परशुना पर्शुरामस्य वै यतः
It was by Paraśurāma’s axe that his tusk was broken.
पूज्यश्च सर्वदेवानामस्माकं जगतां विभुः
He is worshipped by all the gods, the Lord of the worlds for us.
पूजासु सर्वदेवानामग्रे संपूज्य तं जनः
In all acts of worship of the gods, people should first honor him.
गणेशपूजने विघ्नं निर्मूलं जगतां भवेत्
By the worship of Gaṇeśa, obstacles in the worlds are uprooted.
मोक्षश्च पापनाशश्च यशश्चैश्वर्यमुत्तमम्
Liberation, destruction of sin, fame, and the highest prosperity (are attained).
स्वबुद्धिशुद्धिजननं कीर्त्तितं वह्निपूजनम्
The worship of fire has been described as generating purity of one's own intellect.
दाता भोक्ता च भवति शंकराग्निनिषेवणात्
Through the service of Śaṅkara and Agni, one becomes both a giver and a recipient.
विपरीतं त्रिजगतामेतेषां पूजनं विना
Without their worship, the condition of the three worlds becomes adverse.
एते शश्वद्विद्यमाना नित्याः सृष्टिपरायणाः
These deities are eternally present, always devoted to creation.
इत्युक्त्वा श्रीहरिस्तत्र विरराम सभातले
Having spoken thus, Śrī Hari paused there in the assembly hall.
नारायण उवाच उवाच पार्वतीं प्रीत्या हरिसंलापमङ्गलम्
Nārāyaṇa spoke: With affection, he addressed Pārvatī, blessing the conversation with Hari.
शिवाज्ञां च समादाय शिवा संहृष्टमानसा
Having received Śiva's command, Śivā, with a delighted mind,
सुस्नाता सुदती शुद्धा बिभ्रती धौतवाससी
Bathed, beautiful, pure, and wearing freshly washed garments,
आम्रपल्लवसंयुक्तं फलाक्षतसुशोभितम्
Adorned with mango leaves and splendid with fruits and unbroken rice,
रत्नासनस्था रत्नाढ्या रत्नोद्भवसुता सती
Seated on a jeweled seat, rich in jewels, Satī, daughter born of jewels,
रत्नसिंहासनस्थं च संपूज्य सुपुरोहितम्
Having worshipped the chief priest seated upon a jeweled throne,
संस्थाप्य पुरतो भक्त्या दिक्पालान्रत्नभूषितान्
She placed before her, with devotion, the guardians of the directions adorned with jewels.
समर्च्य परया भक्त्या ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेश्वरान्
She worshipped Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara with supreme devotion.
वह्निशुद्धैस्सुवस्त्रैश्च सद्रत्नैर्भूषणैस्तथा समारेभे व्रतं देवी स्वस्तिवाचनपूर्वकम्
With garments purified by fire and adorned with proper jewels, the goddess began the vow, preceded by auspicious recitations.
आवाह्याभीष्टदेवं तं श्रीकृष्णं मंगले घटे
She invoked her desired deity, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, into the auspicious vessel.
यानि व्रते विधेयानि देयानि विविधानि च
Whatever is to be performed and given in the vow, in its various forms,
व्रतोक्तमुपहारं च दुर्लभं भुवनत्रये
And the offerings prescribed by the vow, rare in all three worlds,
दत्त्वा द्रव्याणि सर्वाणि वेदमन्त्रेण सा सती ब्राह्मणान्भोजयामास पूजयित्वाऽतिथींस्तथा
Satī, having given all the materials with Vedic mantras, fed the brāhmaṇas after honoring the guests as well.
भोजयामास सा देवी सुव्रते सुव्रता सती
That devoted and virtuous lady served food to the virtuous ones, O you of good vows.
समाप्तिदिवसे विप्रस्तमुवाच पुरोहितः
On the day of completion, the priest spoke to the Brahmin.
इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा विलप्य सुरसंसदि
Hearing those words, she lamented in the assembly of the gods.
तां च ते मूर्च्छितां दृष्ट्वा प्रहस्य मुनिपुंगवाः
Seeing her fallen unconscious, the foremost sages laughed.
