अदितिश्च व्रतं कृत्वा लेभे वामनकं सुतम्
Aditi, having observed the vow, obtained Vāmana as her son.
उत्तानपादपत्नीदं कृत्वा लेभे ध्रुवं सुतम्
By performing this vow, the wife of Uttānapāda obtained Dhruva as her son.
सूर्य्यपत्नी मनुं लेभे कृत्वेदं व्रतमुत्तमम्
The wife of the Sun, having performed this excellent vow, obtained Manu.
लेभे चांगिरसः पत्नी कृत्वेदं व्रतमुत्तमम्
And the wife of Aṅgiras, having performed this excellent vow, obtained a son.
भृगोर्भार्य्या व्रतं कृत्वा लेभे दैत्यगुरुं सुतम्
The wife of Bhṛgu, having observed the vow, obtained the preceptor of the Daityas as her son.
इत्येवं कथितं देवि व्रतानां व्रतमुत्तमम्
Thus, O goddess, the supreme vow among vows has been described.
साध्यं राजेन्द्रपत्नीनां देवीनां च सुखावहम्
It is attainable for the wives of kings and goddesses, and brings happiness.
व्रतस्यास्य प्रभावेण स्वयं गोपाङ्गनेश्वरः
By the power of this vow, the Lord of the cowherd maidens himself—
इत्युक्त्वा शंकरस्तत्र विरराम च नारद
Having spoken thus, Śaṅkara there became silent, O Nārada.
इति श्रीबह्मवैवर्त्ते महापुराणे तृतीये गणपतिखण्डे नारदनारायणसंवादे पुण्यकव्रतकथनं नाम पञ्चमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Brahmavaivarta Mahāpurāṇa, in the third section, in the Gaṇapati-khaṇḍa, in the dialogue between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa, the fifth chapter named 'The Description of the Meritorious Vow' [is concluded].
शौनक उवाच किं पप्रच्छ पुनः साधो तन्मे ब्रूहि तपोधन
Śaunaka said: What did the sage ask again? Tell me that, O possessor of austerity.
सूत उवाच व्रतारम्भविधानं च संप्रष्टुमुपचक्रमे
Sūta said: He began to ask about the procedure for commencing the vow.
नारद उवाच तन्मे ब्रूहि मुनिश्रेष्ठ पार्वत्या भर्तुराज्ञया
Nārada said: Tell me that, O best of sages, which Pārvatī, by her husband's command—
ललाभ जन्म भूतेशः कृते सुव्रतया व्रते
By the excellent vow performed, the Lord of beings obtained birth.
नारायण उवाच स्वयं विधाता तपसां जगाम तपसे शिवः
Nārāyaṇa said: The Creator himself, among ascetics, engaged in austerity; so did Śiva.
हरेराराधनव्यग्रो मूर्त्तिभेदधरो हरिः
Absorbed in the worship of Hari, Hari took on various forms.
परमानन्दपूर्णश्च ज्ञानानन्दः सनातनः
He is filled with supreme bliss, the eternal one of knowledge and joy.
प्रहृष्टमनसा देवी पार्वती भर्तुराज्ञया
With a delighted mind, the goddess Pārvatī, by her husband's command—
आनीय सर्वद्रव्याणि व्रते योग्यानि यानि च
All the materials suitable for the vow were brought together.
सनत्कुमारो भगवानाजगाम विधेः सुतः
The venerable Sanatkumara, son of Brahma, arrived.
ब्रह्माऽऽजगाम हृष्टश्च ब्रह्मलोकात्सभार्य्यकः
Brahma, delighted, came from Brahmaloka with his wife.
विष्णुः क्षीरोदशायी च सलक्ष्मीकश्चतुर्भुजः
Vishnu, reclining on the Ocean of Milk, arrived with Lakshmi, four-armed.
वनमालाधर श्यामो भूषितो रत्नभूषणैः
Dark-hued, adorned with a garland of forest flowers, he was ornamented with jeweled decorations.
सनकश्च सनन्दश्च कपिलश्च सनातनः
Sanaka, Sananda, Kapila, and Sanatana also came.
यतिश्च सुमतिश्चैव वसिष्ठश्च सहानुगः
Yati, Sumati, and Vasistha with his followers arrived as well.
अगस्त्यश्च प्रचेताश्च दुर्वासाश्च्यवनस्तथा
Agastya, Prachetas, Durvasa, and Cyavana also came.
बृहस्पतिरुतथ्यश्च संवर्तः सौभरिस्तथा
Brihaspati, Uthathya, Samvarta, and Saubhari likewise arrived.
गोकामुखो वक्ररथः पारिभद्रः पराशरः
Gokamukha, Vakraratha, Paribhadra, and Parashara came.
मार्कण्डेयो मृकण्डुश्च पुष्करो लोमशस्तथा
Markandeya, Mrikandu, Pushkara, and Lomasha also arrived.
कात्यायनः कणादश्च पाणिनिः शाकटायनः
Katyayana, Kanada, Panini, and Shakatayana came as well.
