कामिनी मानसं काममप्रज्ञं स्वामिनं वदेत्
A woman speaks her mind, her desire, and her ignorance to her husband.
सुगोप्यं सर्वनारीणां लज्जाजननकारणम्
This is to be kept most secret by all women, for it is the cause of shame.
सुखेषु मध्ये स्त्रीणां च विभवेषु सुरेश्वर
Among pleasures and prosperity, O lord of gods, for women—
तद्भंगेन च यद्दुःखं तत्समं नास्ति च स्त्रियाः
There is no suffering for a woman equal to the pain of its loss.
कृष्णपक्षे यथा चन्द्रः क्षीयमाणो दिने दिने
Just as the moon wanes day by day in the dark fortnight—
चिन्ताज्वरश्च सर्वेषामुपतापश्च वाससाम्
So does the fever of anxiety and distress afflict all women.
रतिभंगो दुःखमेकं द्वितीयं वीर्य्यपातनम्
The interruption of pleasure is one sorrow; the second is the loss of vital fluid.
त्रैलोक्यकान्तं कान्तं त्वां लब्ध्वाऽपि न च मे सुतः
Even having obtained you, beloved of the three worlds, I have no son.
जन्मान्तरसुखं पुण्यं तपोदानसमुद्भवम्
Happiness from previous births arises from merit, austerity, and charity.
सुपुत्रः स्वामिनोंऽशश्च स्वामितुल्यसुखप्रदः
A good son is a portion of the master and bestows happiness equal to the master.
स्वामी स्वांशेन सुस्त्रीणां गर्भे जन्म लभेद्ध्रुवम्
The master, by his own portion, surely obtains birth in the womb of a virtuous woman.
असाध्वी वैरितुल्या च शश्वत्सन्तापदायिनी
An unchaste woman is like an enemy and always brings distress to offspring.
किमुपायं करिष्यामि वद योगीश्वरेश्वर
What means shall I employ? Tell me, Lord of Yogis.
इत्युक्त्वा पार्वती देवी नम्रवक्त्रा बभूव ह
Having spoken thus, the goddess Parvati became humble-faced.
सत्पुत्रबीजं सुखदं तापनाशनकारणम्
The seed of a good son brings happiness and is the cause of the destruction of suffering.
श्रीमहादेव उवाच उपायतः कार्य्यसिद्धिर्भवत्येव जगत्त्रये
Sri Mahadeva said: Through means, accomplishment of tasks surely occurs in the three worlds.
सर्ववांछितसिद्धेस्तु बीजरूपं सुमङ्गलम्
The auspicious seed is the source of fulfillment of all desires.
हरेराराधनं कृत्वा व्रतं कुरु वरानने
Having worshipped Hari, undertake a vow, O beautiful-faced one.
महाकठोरबीजं च वाञ्छाकल्पतरुं परम्
The supreme, exceedingly potent seed is the wish-fulfilling tree.
नदीनां च यथा गंगा देवानां च हरिर्यथा
As among rivers the Ganga, and among gods Hari.
वर्णानां च यथा विप्रस्तीर्थानां पुष्करं यथा
As among castes the Brahmin, and among sacred places Pushkara.
यथा पुण्यप्रदानां च तिथिरेकादशी स्मृता मासानां मार्गशीर्षश्चाप्यृतूनां माधवो यथा
As among days bestowing merit, Ekadashi is remembered; among months, Margashirsha, and among seasons, Madhava.
संवत्सरो वत्सराणां युगानां च कृतं यथा साध्वी पत्नी यथाप्तानां विश्वस्तानां मनो यथा
As among years, the Samvatsara; among ages, the Krita; as among relatives, the virtuous wife; as among trusted ones, the mind.
यथा धनानां रत्नं च प्रियाणां च यथा पतिः
As among wealth, the jewel; and as among beloved ones, the husband.
फलानां वै चूतफलं वर्षाणां भारतं तथा
Among fruits, the mango is foremost; among years, the Bharata year likewise.
यथा काशी पुरीणां च सूर्य्यस्तेजस्विनां यथा
As Kāśī is among cities, so is the sun among radiant ones.
शास्त्राणां च यथा वेदाः सिद्धानां कपिलो यथा
As the Vedas are among scriptures, so is Kapila among the perfected ones.
यशोदानां यथा विद्या कविता च मनोहरा
As knowledge is among learned women, so is delightful poetry.
विभवानां हरिकथा सुखानां हरिचिन्तनम्
Among riches, the stories of Hari; among pleasures, meditation on Hari.
पापानां च यथा मिथ्या पापिनां पुंश्चली यथा
As falsehood is among sins, so is an unchaste woman among sinners.
