Having heard such praise, the one skilled in yoga and knowledge,
Seeing the gods afflicted by fear and again preparing to praise,
As Maheśa rose, filled with fear and shame,
Afterwards, I will tell that exceedingly delightful story.

Then Shiva, seeing Shiva with eyes reddened by anger—
Shiva, seeing her distressed, her eyes inflamed with wrath—
Greatly frightened and alarmed, he spoke gentle words: 'How have you become angry, O best of the mountain's daughters, blessed and enchanting one?'

Among pleasures and prosperity, O lord of gods, for women—
There is no suffering for a woman equal to the pain of its loss.
Just as the moon wanes day by day in the dark fortnight—
So does the fever of anxiety and distress afflict all women.
