ॐ ह्रीं श्रीं क्लीं च दुर्गायै वह्निजायान्तमेव च
Oṃ hrīṃ śrīṃ klīṃ to Durgā, and to the wife of Fire, indeed.
सर्वेन्द्रियाधिदेवास्ते इहागच्छन्तु चण्डिके
May all the deities presiding over the senses come here, O Caṇḍikā.
स इहागच्छेत्यावाह्य परिहारं करोति च
He summons him here and performs the prescribed offering.
स्वागतं भगवत्यम्ब शिवलोकाच्छिवप्रिये 2.64.
Welcome, O divine mother, beloved of Shiva, from the realm of Shiva.
धन्योऽहं कृतकृत्योऽहं सफलं जीवनं मम
I am blessed, I am fulfilled; my life has borne fruit.
अद्य मे सफलं जन्म सार्थकं जीवनं मम
Today my birth is fruitful, my life is meaningful.
भारते भवतीं पूज्यां दुर्गां यः पूजयेद् बुधः
In Bharata, the wise who worship you, O Durga, as worthy of reverence—
कृत्वा च वैष्णवीपूजां विष्णुलोकं व्रजेत्सुधीः
Having performed the Vaishnava worship, the wise one attains the realm of Vishnu.
सात्त्विकी राजसी चैव त्रिधा पूजा च तामसी
The worship is threefold: sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic.
सात्त्विकी वैष्णवानां च शाक्तादीनां च राजसी
Sattvic worship belongs to the Vaishnavas, rajasic to the Shaktas and others.
जीवहत्या विहीना या वरा पूजा तु वैष्णवी
The Vaishnava worship, which is free from the killing of living beings, is supreme.
माहेश्वरी राजसी च बलिदानसमन्विता
The Maheshvari worship is rajasic and accompanied by the offering of sacrifices.
किरातास्त्रिदिवं यान्ति तामस्या पूजया तया
The Kiratas ascend to the three heavens by means of tamasic worship.
सर्वशक्तिस्वरूपा च कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः 2.64.
She is the embodiment of all powers, belonging to Krishna, the Supreme Self.
सुखदा मोक्षदा भद्रा कृष्णभक्तिप्रदा सदा
She always bestows happiness, liberation, auspiciousness, and devotion to Krishna.
दुर्गेति स्मृतिमात्रेण याति दुर्गं नृणामिह
By merely remembering the name 'Durga', a person overcomes difficulties here.
त्रिपद्या उपरिष्टात्तु शंखं संस्थापयेत्तु सः
Above the three lines, he should place a conch.
धृत्वा दक्षिणहस्तेन मन्त्रमेवं पठेन्नरः प्रभूतः शंखचूडात्त्वं पुरा कल्पे पवित्रकः
Holding it in his right hand, a man should recite the mantra thus: 'You are exalted, O conch-crested one, formerly pure in the kalpa.'
ततोऽर्घ्यपात्रं संस्थाप्य विधिनाऽनेन पण्डितः
Then, placing the vessel for offering according to this procedure, the learned one—
त्रिकोणमण्डलं कृत्वा सजलेन कुशेन च
Having made a triangular diagram with moist kusa grass—
त्रिपदीं स्थापयेत्तत्र त्रिपद्यां शंखमेव च
One should place the three-footed seat there, and also a conch on the three-footed stand.
गङ्गे च यमुने चैव गोदावरि सरस्वति
The Ganges, Yamuna, Godavari, and Sarasvati,
स्वर्णरेखे कनखले पारिभद्रे च गण्डकि
The Svarnarekha, Kanakhala, Paribhadra, and Gandaki,
पद्मावति त्रिपर्णाशे विपाशे विरजे प्रभे 2.64.
Padmavati, Triparna, Vipasha, Viraja, and Prabha,
वह्निं सूर्य्यं च चन्द्रं च विष्णुं च वरुणं शिवम् नैवेद्यानि च सर्वाणि प्रोक्षयेत्तज्जलेन च
Fire, the sun, the moon, Vishnu, Varuna, Shiva, and all offerings of food should be sprinkled with that water.
प्रत्येकं वै ततो दद्यादुपचारांश्च षोडश
Then, for each one, one should offer the sixteen forms of worship.
मधुपर्कं गन्धमर्घ्यं पुष्पं नैवेद्यमीप्सितम्
Madhuparka, fragrant substances, arghya, flowers, and the desired food offering,
धूपं प्रदीपं तल्पं चेत्युपचारास्तु षोडश
Incense, lamp, bedding—these are among the sixteen offerings.
अमूल्यरत्नसंक्लृप्तं नानाचित्र विराजितम्
Prepared with priceless jewels, adorned with various designs,
अनन्तसूत्रप्रभवमीश्वरेच्छाविनिर्मितम्
Originating from endless threads, created by the will of the Lord,
