कृष्णेति द्व्यक्षरं मन्त्रं गृहीत्वा कृष्णदास्यदम्
By taking up the two-syllabled mantra 'Kṛṣṇa', which grants service to Kṛṣṇa—
दशलक्षजपेनैव मन्त्रसिद्धिर्भवेत्तव
By reciting it one hundred thousand times, the perfection of the mantra is surely attained.
वैश्यो नत्वा च तां भक्त्या चागमत्पुष्करं मुने भगवत्याः प्रसादेन कृष्णदासो बभूव सः
The Vaiśya, having bowed to her with devotion, went to Puṣkara, O sage; by the grace of the Goddess, he became a servant of Kṛṣṇa.
इति श्रीब्रह्मवैवर्त्ते महापुराणे द्वितीये प्रकृतिखण्डे नारदनारायणसं वादे दुर्गोपाख्याने सुरथसमाधिमेधस्संवादे प्रकृतिवैश्यसंवादकथनं नाम त्रिषष्टितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the sixty-third chapter, named 'The Dialogue of Prakṛti and the Vaiśya,' in the section on Prakṛti, within the second book of the great Brahmavaivarta Purāṇa, in the discourse between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa, in the story of Durgā, and the dialogue of Suratha, Samādhi, and Medhas.
नारायण उवाच तच्छ्रूयतां महाभाग वेदोक्तं क्रममेव च
Nārāyaṇa said: Listen now, O highly fortunate one, to the procedure as taught in the Vedas.
स्नात्वाऽऽचम्य महाराजः कृत्वा न्यासत्रयं तदा
Having bathed and sipped water, the great king then performed the three acts of consecration.
प्राणायामं ततः कृत्वा कृत्वा च शङ्खशोधनम्
Then, having performed breath control and purified the conch shell,
पुनर्ध्यात्वा च भक्त्या च पूजयामास भक्तितः
Again, meditating with devotion, he worshipped with heartfelt devotion.
संपूज्य भक्तिभावेन भक्त्या परमधार्मिकः
Having worshipped with a devotional attitude, with devotion, the supremely righteous one—
भक्त्या च पूजयामास विधिपूर्वं च नारद
With devotion, he worshipped according to the prescribed method, O Nārada.
देवषट्कं च संपूज्य नमस्कृत्य विचक्षणः
Having worshipped the group of six gods, bowing down, the wise one—
ध्यानं च सामवेदोक्तं परं कल्पतरुं मुने
He meditated upon the supreme wish-fulfilling tree, as described in the Sāma Veda, O sage.
ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवादीनां पूज्यां वन्द्यां सनातनीम्
She who is to be worshipped and praised by Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva, and the others, the eternal one—
सर्वस्वरूपां सर्वेषां सर्वाधारां परात्पराम् 2.64.
The one who is the form of all, the support of all, the supreme beyond the supreme.
सगुणां निर्गुणां सत्त्वां वरां स्वेच्छामयीं सतीम्
With qualities and beyond qualities, possessing pure existence, the best, self-willed, and virtuous.
कृष्णप्रियां कृष्णशक्तिं कृष्णबुद्ध्यधिदेवताम्
Dear to Kṛṣṇa, the power of Kṛṣṇa, the presiding deity of Kṛṣṇa’s intellect.
तप्तकाञ्चनवर्णाभां कोटिसूर्य्यसमप्रभाम्
With the radiance of molten gold, shining like ten million suns.
दुर्गां शतभुजां देवीं महद्दुर्गतिनाशिनीम्
Durgā, the goddess with a hundred arms, the great destroyer of misfortune.
त्रिलोचनप्राणरूपां शुद्धार्द्धचन्द्रशेखराम्
The life-force of the three-eyed one, adorned with a pure half-moon.
वर्तुलं वामवक्त्रं च शम्भोर्मानसमोहिनीम्
With a rounded left cheek, enchanting the mind of Śambhu.
नासादक्षिणभागेन बिभ्रतीं गजमौक्तिकम्
Bearing an elephant pearl on the right side of her nose,
मुक्तापंक्तिविनिन्द्यैकदन्तपंक्तिसुशोभिताम्
Adorned with a single row of teeth that shames a string of pearls.
चित्रपत्रावलीरम्यकपोलयुगलोज्ज्वलाम्
Her pair of cheeks shining, lovely with lines of variegated leaves.
रत्नकङ्कणभूषाढ्यां रत्नपाशंकशोभिताम् ।। 2.64.
Richly adorned with jeweled bracelets, radiant with a jeweled noose and goad.
पादाङ्गुलिनखासक्तालक्तरेखासुशोभनाम्
Her toes and fingernails are adorned with beautiful lines of red lac.
बिभ्रतीं स्तनयुग्मं च कस्तूरीबिन्दुशोभितम्
She bears a pair of breasts, splendid with a mark of musk.
अतीव कान्तां शान्तां च नितान्तां योगसिद्धिषु
She is exceedingly lovely, tranquil, and foremost among those perfected in yoga.
शरत्पार्वणचन्द्रास्यामतीव सुमनोहराम्
Her face is like the autumn full moon, supremely enchanting.
सिन्दूरबिन्दुना शश्वद्भालमध्यस्थलोज्ज्वलाम्
Her forehead always shines with a spot of vermilion at its center.
चारुकज्जलरेखाभ्यां सर्वतश्च समुज्ज्वलाम्
With charming lines of kohl, she shines brilliantly in every way.
