श्रीकृष्णस्य प्रसादेन निर्भयोऽहं निरामयः
By the grace of Shri Krishna, I am fearless and free from affliction.
स्वपापेन मृतस्तातो पुरा वै विष्णुनिन्दया
My father died by his own sin, long ago, due to blasphemy against Vishnu.
त्रिपुरः किङ्करोऽस्माकं वीरत्वेन न गण्यते
Tripura is our servant; his valor is not considered.
इत्युक्त्वा दानवश्रेष्ठो विरराम च संसदि
Having spoken thus, the foremost of the Danavas became silent in the assembly.
ब्रह्मोवाच सुप्रीत्या चरणं वत्स सर्वमङ्गलकारणम्
Brahma said: With great affection, child, touch the feet, the source of all auspiciousness.
तारां भिक्षां देहि मह्यं भिक्षुकाय च वेधसे
Give Tara as alms to me, the beggar and the creator.
सनत्कुमार उवाच यस्य भिक्षुर्जगद्धाता तस्य कीर्तेश्च का कथा
Sanatkumara said: When the creator of the world is a beggar, what can be said of his fame?
सनातन उवाच रक्षितः कृष्णचक्रेण वैष्णवः पुण्यवाञ्छुचिः
Sanatana said: Protected by Krishna's discus, the Vaishnava is virtuous and pure.
सनन्दन उवाच गुरुश्च वैष्णवः शुक्रः स च केन जितो महान्
Sanandana said: The guru, Vaishnava Shukra, how was that great one defeated?
सनक उवाच पुण्यदीपो न निर्वाति पाषण्डेनैव वायुना ।। 2.61.
Sanaka said: The lamp of virtue is not extinguished by the wind of heresy.
ऋषय ऊचुः स्वकीर्तिं रक्ष सुचिरं प्रार्थयामः पुनः पुनः
The sages said: We repeatedly pray that our own fame may be preserved for a long time.
प्रह्राद उवाच कर्त्तारं ब्रूहि मन्नाथं गुरुं शुक्रं सतां वरम्
Prahrāda said: Speak of the creator, my lord, the teacher Śukra, the foremost among the virtuous.
शिष्याणामाधिपत्ये च साधूनां गुरुरीश्वरः
As the master of disciples, the teacher is the lord among the virtuous.
वयं भृत्याश्च पोष्याश्च स्वगुरोः परिचारकाः
We are servants and dependents, attendants of our own teacher.
प्रह्रादस्य वचः श्रुत्वा चकार प्रार्थनां कविम्
Hearing the words of Prahrāda, the poet made his request.
दत्त्वा तारां विधुं शुक्रः प्रणनाम विधेः पदे
Having given Tārā to the moon, Śukra bowed at the feet of the creator.
प्रह्लादः सगणो भक्त्या नमस्कृत्य विधेः पदे
Prahlāda, together with his followers, devotedly bowed at the feet of the creator.
ब्रह्मा ददर्श तारां च प्रणतां स्वपदे सतीम्
Brahmā saw Tārā, who was devoted and bowed at his own feet.
चन्द्रं च प्रणतं धाता क्रोडे संस्थाप्य मायया
The creator, placing the moon who had bowed in his lap by his power, did so.
तारे त्यज भयं मत्तः भयं किं ते मयि स्थिते 2.61.
O Tārā, abandon fear from me; what fear is there for you while I am present?
दुर्बला बलिना ग्रस्ता निष्कामा न च्युता भवेत्
The weak, when seized by the strong, if without desire, does not fall.
सकामा कामतो जारं भजते स्वसुखेन च
One who is desirous, by desire, enjoys her lover for her own pleasure.
कुम्भीपाके पच्यते सा यावच्चन्द्रदिवाकरम्
She is cooked in Kumbhīpāka as long as the moon and sun endure.
पापी यस्याश्च तस्याश्च साधुभिः परिवर्जितम्
She whose actions are sinful is avoided by the virtuous.
त्यज लज्जां महाभागे सर्वं च प्राक्तनाद्भवेत्
O noble lady, abandon shame; everything arises from previous actions.
चन्द्रस्य गर्भं हे तात बिभर्म्यद्य स्वकर्मणा
O dear, today I bear the embryo of the moon by my own actions.
यदा जग्राह चन्द्रो मां दयाहीनश्च दुर्मतिः
When the moon seized me, devoid of compassion and of wicked mind,
कुमारं सुन्दरं तत्र ज्वलन्तं ब्रह्मतेजसा
There, a beautiful child, blazing with the brilliance of Brahma, was produced.
जगाम स स्वभवनं ब्रह्मा सिन्धुतटं ययौ
He went to his own abode, and Brahmā proceeded to the bank of the ocean.
आशिषं शम्भुधर्माभ्यां दत्त्वा लोकं ययौ विधिः 2.61.
Having given blessings to Śambhu and Dharma, the Creator departed for his own world.
