तदंशस्तत्समः शश्वद्यथा वह्नेः स्फुलिङ्गवत् 2.54.
He is an eternal portion, equal to that, just as a spark is to fire.
कल्पे कल्पे जितास्ते ते नश्वरा मृत्युकन्यया
In every cycle, they are conquered by the perishable daughter of Death.
कतिधा ब्रह्मणां पातो यन्निमेषण भूमिप
How many times does the fall of Brahmā occur in the blink of an eye, O king?
चकार वीर्याधानं च पुण्ये वृन्दावने वने
He performed the act of depositing his energy in the sacred forest of Vṛndāvana.
गर्भं दधार सा राधा यावद्वै ब्रह्मणो वयः
Rādhā bore the embryo for as long as was the lifespan of Brahmā.
चुकोप डिम्भं सा दृष्ट्वा हृदयेन विदूयता
Seeing the child, she became angry, her heart greatly disturbed.
त्यक्त्वाऽपत्य महादेवी रुरोद च मुहुर्मुहुः
The great goddess abandoned the child and wept again and again.
बभूव तस्माडिम्भाच्च सर्वाधारो महाविराट्
From that child arose the great Virāṭ, the support of all.
सुयज्ञ उवाच शापो मे वररूपश्चाप्यभवद्भक्तिकारणम्
Suyajña said: My curse also became a boon, for the sake of devotion.
सुदुर्लभा हरेर्भक्तिः सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गला
Devotion to Hari is extremely rare, the most auspicious among all auspicious things.
यथा भक्तिर्मम भवेच्छ्रीकृष्णे परमात्मनि 2.54.
May devotion to me arise in Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Soul.
नह्यम्मयानि तीर्थानि न देवा मृच्छिलामयाः
Neither the sacred places created by me, nor the gods made of clay and stone,
सर्वेषामाश्रमाणां च द्विजातेर्जातिरुत्तमा
Among all hermitages, the birth of a brāhmaṇa is the highest.
कृष्णमन्त्रोपासकश्च कृष्णभक्तिपरायणः
One who worships the Kṛṣṇa-mantra and is devoted to Kṛṣṇa-bhakti,
त्वां वैष्णवं द्विजश्रेष्ठं महाज्ञानार्णवं परम्
You are a Vaiṣṇava, O best of brāhmaṇas, a great ocean of supreme knowledge.
अधुनाऽहं गलत्कुष्ठी तव शापान्महामुने
Now I, afflicted by leprosy, am so because of your curse, O great sage.
सुतपा उवाच सा च याननुगृह्णाति तेभ्यो भक्तिं ददाति च
Sutapā said: She who shows compassion gives them devotion.
यांश्च माया मोहयति तेभ्यस्तां न ददाति च
Those whom Māyā deludes, to them she does not give it.
कृष्णप्रेममयीं शक्तिं प्राणाधिष्ठातृदेवताम्
The power filled with love for Kṛṣṇa is the presiding deity of life.
शीघ्रं यास्यासि गोलोकं तदनुग्रहसेवया
You will quickly go to Goloka by serving her grace.
ध्यानसाध्यं दुराराध्यं भक्ताः संसेव्य निर्गुणम् 2.54.
That which is attained by meditation, difficult to worship, the devotees serve the attribute-less.
कृपामयीं च संसेव्य भक्ता यान्त्यचिरेण वै
By serving the compassionate one, devotees attain it without delay.
सहस्रवर्षपर्य्यन्तं विप्रपादोदकं पिब
For a thousand years, drink the water from the feet of a brāhmaṇa.
विप्रपादोदकक्लिन्ना यावत्तिष्ठति मेदिनी
As long as the earth remains moistened by the water from a brāhmaṇa’s feet,
पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि तानि तीर्थानि सागरे
All the sacred places on earth are also in the ocean.
विप्रपादोदकं चैव पापव्याधिविनाशनम्
The water from a brāhmaṇa’s feet indeed destroys sin and disease.
विप्रो मानवरूपी च देवदेवो जनार्दनः
The brāhmaṇa, in human form, is Janārdana, the god of gods.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा विप्रश्च गृहीत्वा तस्य पूजनम्
Thus, having spoken, the brāhmaṇa took his worship.
भक्त्या च बुभुजे राजा विप्रपादोदकं शिवे
And with devotion, the king partook of the water that had washed the feet of the brāhmaṇas, O Śiva.
संवत्सरे व्यतीते तु निर्मुक्तो व्याधितो नृपः
When a year had passed, the king was freed from disease.
