गोलोको वर्त्तुलाकारो वरिष्ठस्सर्वलोकतः
Goloka is circular in shape and superior to all worlds.
रत्नेन्द्रसारखचितैः स्तम्भसोपानचित्रितैः
It is adorned with pillars and stairways inlaid with the best of jewels.
नानाचित्रविचित्रैश्च शिबिरैश्च विराजितः विरजासरिदाकीर्णैश्शतशृंगैस्सुवेष्टितः
It shines with various wondrous pavilions, and is beautified by hundreds of peaks washed by the pure river Viraja.
सरिदर्धप्रमाणेन दैर्घ्येण च ततेन च
Its length is half that of the river, and its width is the same.
तदर्द्धमानविलसद्रासमण्डलमण्डितः 2.54.
It is adorned with a circle of rasa that shines with half that measure.
यथा पंकजमध्ये च कर्णिका सुमनोहरा
Just as, in the center of a lotus, the pericarp is most enchanting,
रासेश्वर्य्या राधिकया संयुक्तः सन्ततं नृप
O King, he is always united with Radhika, the queen of the rasa dance.
वह्निशुद्धांशुकाधानो रत्नभूषणभूषितः
He is clad in garments purified by fire and adorned with jewel ornaments.
रत्नसिंहासनस्थश्च रत्नच्छत्रेण शोभितः
He sits upon a jeweled throne, resplendent beneath a jeweled parasol.
भूषिताभिश्च गोपीभिर्मालाचन्दनचर्चितः
He is decorated by the gopis, adorned with garlands and smeared with sandal paste.
कथितो लोकविस्तारो यथाशक्ति यथागमम्
The expanse of the worlds has been described, according to ability and tradition.
पात्रं षट्पलसंभूतं गभीरं चतुरङ्गुलम्
The vessel is made from six lotus petals, deep and four finger-breadths wide.
स्वर्णमाषकृतच्छिद्रं दण्डैश्च चतुरंगुलैः
It has a hole the size of a mustard seed made of gold, and rods each four finger-breadths long.
दण्डद्वयं मुहूर्तं च यामस्तस्य चतुष्टयम्
Two rods measure a muhūrta, and four of these make a yāma.
मासो द्वाभ्यां च पक्षाभ्यां वर्षं द्वादशमासकैः 2.54.
A month consists of two fortnights, and a year is made of twelve months.
कृष्णपक्षे दिनं प्रोक्तं शुक्ले रात्रिः प्रकीर्त्तिता
In the dark fortnight, the day is said to prevail; in the bright fortnight, the night is declared.
अयनं ह्युत्तरमहो रात्रिर्वै दक्षिणायनम्
The northern course is called the day, and the southern course is indeed the night.
प्रकृतेः प्राकृतानां च ब्रह्मादीनां निशामय
Now hear of the days and nights of the primal beings, such as Brahmā, and of the elements.
दिव्यैर्द्वादशसाहस्रैः सावधानं निशामय
Listen attentively: twelve thousand divine years are declared.
तेषां च सन्ध्यासन्ध्यांशौ द्वे सहस्रे प्रकीर्तिते
Of these, the two periods of twilight are said to be two thousand.
चतुर्युगं परिमितं नरमानक्रमेण च
The measure of a caturyuga is according to the reckoning of human years.
कृतं युगं नृमानेन संख्याविद्भिः प्रकीर्त्तितम्
The Kṛta Yuga, in human reckoning, is declared by those who know numbers.
त्रेतायुगं परिमितं कालविद्भिः प्रकीर्त्तितम्
The Tretā Yuga is measured and proclaimed by those who know time.
परिमाणं द्वापरस्य संख्याविद्भिरितीरितम् नृमानाद्वै कलियुगं विदुः कालविदो बुघाः
The measure of the Dvāpara is stated by those who know numbers; and the Kali Yuga, from the human reckoning, is known by those who understand time.
तत्र सप्त च वारा वै तिथयः षोडश स्मृताः 2.54.
Therein, the seven days are established, and the tithis are remembered as sixteen.
तथा भ्रमति तच्चक्रमेवमेवं चतुर्युगम्
Thus, this cycle revolves, and so too does the caturyuga.
एवं क्रमाद्भ्रमन्त्येव मनवश्च चतुर्दश
In this way, the fourteen Manus revolve in order.
पञ्चविंशतिसाहस्रं षष्ट्यन्तशतपञ्चकम्
Twenty-five thousand and sixty-five at the end of sixty.
आख्यानं च मनूनां च धर्मिष्ठानां नराधिप
The accounts of the Manus, those righteous kings, are narrated.
आद्यो मनुर्ब्रह्मपुत्रः शतरूपा पतिव्रता
The first Manu was the son of Brahma; Śatarūpā was his devoted wife.
