गते प्राकृतिके घोरे महति प्रलये तथा
When the dreadful, natural dissolution arrives,
षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि विष्ठायां च कृमिर्भवेत्
for sixty thousand years he becomes a worm in excrement.
सप्तजन्मसु शुद्धश्च गलत्कुष्ठी नपुंसकः
In seven births, he is pure, but afflicted with leprosy and impotent.
लब्ध्वैवं सप्त जन्मानि महापापी भवेच्छुचिः ।। 2.52.
Having thus obtained seven births, the great sinner becomes pure.
मुनय ऊचुः एभिस्तुल्यो भवेद्दोषोऽप्यतिथीनां पराभवे
The sages said: The same fault arises also from neglecting guests.
प्रणामं कुरु विप्रेन्द्रं गृहं प्रापय निश्चितम्
Offer obeisance to the chief of Brahmins and certainly bring him into the house.
वनं गच्छ महाराज तपस्यां कुरु सत्वरम्
Go to the forest, O great king, and quickly undertake austerity.
इत्युक्त्वा मुनयः सर्वे ययुस्तूर्णं स्वमन्दिरम्
Having spoken thus, all the sages swiftly returned to their own hermitages.
इति श्रीब्रह्मवैवर्त्ते महापुराणे द्वितीये प्रकृतिखण्डे नारदनारायणसंवादान्तर्गतहरगौरीसंवादे राधोपाख्याने सुयज्ञोपाख्याने कर्मविपाको नाम द्विपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the fifty-second chapter, entitled 'The Fruits of Action,' in the narrative of Suyajña within the story of Rādhā, in the dialogue between Hara and Gaurī, which is part of the conversation between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa, in the Prakṛti section of the great Purāṇa Śrī Brahmavaivarta.
श्रीपार्वत्युवाच किं चकार नृपश्रेष्ठो ब्रह्मशापेन विह्वलः
Śrī Pārvatī said: What did that foremost of kings do, distressed by Brahmā's curse?
अतिथिर्ब्राह्मणो वाऽपि किं चकार तदा प्रभो
Or what did the guest, who was a brāhmaṇa, do at that time, O Lord?
महेश्वर उवाच प्रेरितश्च वसिष्ठेन धर्मिष्ठेन पुरोधसा
Maheśvara said: Urged by Vasiṣṭha, the most righteous family priest,
पपात दण्डवद्भूमौ पादयोर्ब्राह्मणस्य च
He fell to the ground like a staff, at the feet of the brāhmaṇa.
सस्मितं ब्राह्मणं दृष्ट्वा त्यक्तमन्युं कृपामयम्
Seeing the brāhmaṇa, who was smiling, free from anger, and full of compassion,
राजोवाच किंनामा वाऽपि तद्ब्रूहि क्व वासः कथमागतः
The king said: Tell me, what is your name, where do you reside, and how have you come here?
विप्ररूपी स्वयं विष्णुर्गूढः कपटमानुषः
You are Viṣṇu himself, disguised as a brāhmaṇa, hidden in the form of a man.
को वा गुरुस्ते भगवन्निष्टदेवश्च भारते
O blessed one, who is your teacher, and which deity do you worship in Bhārata?
गृहाण राज्यं निखिलमैश्वर्य्यं कोशमेव च
Accept the entire kingdom, all the wealth, and the treasury as well.
सप्तसागरसंयुक्तां सप्तद्वीपां वसुन्धराम् 2.53.
Rule over the earth, joined with the seven oceans and seven continents.
मया भृत्येन शाधि त्वं राजेन्द्रो भव भारते
Rule me, your servant; become the lord of kings in Bhārata.
नृपस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा जहास मुनिपुङ्गवः
Hearing the king's words, the foremost of sages laughed.
अतिथिरुवाच कश्यपस्य सुताः सर्वे प्राप्ता देवत्वमीप्सितम्
The guest said: All the sons of Kaśyapa attained the desired status of divinity.
तेषु त्वष्टा महाज्ञानी चकार परमं तपः
Among them, Tvaṣṭṛ, the great knower, performed supreme austerity.
सिषेवे ब्राह्मणार्थं च देवदेवं हरिं परम्
He worshipped the supreme Lord Hari for the sake of the brāhmaṇas.
ततो बभूव तेजस्वी विश्वरूपस्तपोधनः
Then Viśvarūpa, rich in austerity and radiant, was born.
मातामहेभ्यो दैत्येभ्यो दत्तवन्तं घृताहुतिम्
He offered oblations of ghee to the maternal uncles, the Daityas.
विश्वरूपस्य तनयो विरूपो मत्पिता नृप
O King, Virūpa is the son of Viśvarūpa and my father.
महादेवो मम गुरुर्विद्याज्ञानमनुप्रदः
Mahādeva is my teacher, the giver of knowledge and wisdom.
तच्चिन्तयामि पादाब्जं न मे वाञ्छा ऽस्ति सम्पदि 2.53.
I contemplate his lotus feet; I have no desire for prosperity.
तेन दत्तं न गृह्णामि विना तत्सेवनं शुभम्
I do not accept what is given by him unless it is accompanied by his auspicious service.
