Whoever gives false testimony out of desire, anger, or fear,
And even a king who destroys virtue—he is an ingrate.
O king, whoever speaks false or partial testimony in Bharata,
He is continually surrounded by snakes, terrified, and devoured likewise.
There, in Bharata, he becomes a lizard for seven births.
After that, he becomes a śālmalī tree in the great forest.
Āstīka said: For men who approach their mothers, there is no expiation.
O foremost of kings, in Bharata, what is the fault of those who go to their mothers?
The fault is only as much as with a Brahmin who has intercourse with a Śūdra woman.
So too with pregnant sisters-in-law and with sisters likewise.
Whoever, being greatly sinful, engages in sexual union with these women,
has no right to behold the solar orb.
He is unworthy of the water of all holy places and likewise of the water from a Brahmin’s feet.
He is not fit to bow to the gods, the teacher, or a Brahmin.
The deities, ancestors, and Brahmins do not accept offerings from him in the land of Bharata.
A twice-born should fast for seven nights after such contact with the divine.
Because of that sin, the land falls, just as in the case of one who sells his daughter.
And for men, that sin is equal—there is no doubt about it.
Day and night, he wanders there endlessly in a whirling cycle.
Thus, the great sinner continually endures the torments of hell.
When the dreadful, natural dissolution arrives,
for sixty thousand years he becomes a worm in excrement.
In seven births, he is pure, but afflicted with leprosy and impotent.
Having thus obtained seven births, the great sinner becomes pure.
The sages said: The same fault arises also from neglecting guests.
Offer obeisance to the chief of Brahmins and certainly bring him into the house.
Go to the forest, O great king, and quickly undertake austerity.
Having spoken thus, all the sages swiftly returned to their own hermitages.
Thus ends the fifty-second chapter, entitled 'The Fruits of Action,' in the narrative of Suyajña within the story of Rādhā, in the dialogue between Hara and Gaurī, which is part of the conversation between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa, in the Prakṛti section of the great Purāṇa Śrī Brahmavaivarta.
Śrī Pārvatī said: What did that foremost of kings do, distressed by Brahmā's curse?
