मुनिनारदमन्वादिब्रह्मविष्णुशिवान्विते
Accompanied by sages like Narada and Manu, together with Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
रूक्षो मलिनवासाश्च शुष्ककण्ठौष्ठतालुकः
Rough, wearing dirty garments, with dry throats, lips, and palates.
राजानमाशिषं चक्रे सस्मितः सम्पुटाञ्जलिः
The king, smiling, offered blessings with cupped hands.
सभासदश्च नोत्तस्थुर्जहसुः स्वल्पमेव च
The members of the assembly did not rise; they laughed only a little.
शशाप नृपतिं क्रोधात्तत्रातिष्ठन्निरंकुशः
Standing there, unrestrained, he cursed the king in anger.
भवाचिरं गलत्कुष्ठी बुद्धिहीनोऽप्युपद्रुतः
May you soon become afflicted with leprosy, devoid of intellect and tormented.
ये यत्र जहसुः सर्वे समुत्तस्थुः सभासदः 2.50.
All those who laughed there, the members of the assembly, stood up together.
प्रणम्यागत्य राजा तं रुरोद भयकातरः
The king, having approached and bowed, wept, overcome by fear.
ब्राह्मणो गूढरूपी च प्रज्वलन्ब्रह्मतेजसा
The Brahmin, concealed in form, shone with the brilliance of Brahman.
हे विप्र तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति समुच्चार्य्य पुनः पुनः
He repeatedly called out, 'O Brahmin, stay, stay!'
मरीचिः कश्यपश्चैव वसिष्ठः क्रतुरेव च
Marici, Kasyapa, Vasistha, and also Kratu.
गौतमश्च कणादश्च कण्वः कात्यायनः कठः
Gautama, Kanada, Kanva, Katyayana, and Katha.
तैत्तिरिश्चाप्यापिशलिर्मार्कण्डेयो महातपाः
Taittiri, Āpiśali, and the great ascetic Mārkaṇḍeya,
सनत्कुमारो भगवान्नरनारायणावृषी
The venerable Sanatkumāra, and the sages Nara and Nārāyaṇa,
भरद्वाजश्च वाल्मीकिरौर्वश्च च्यवनस्तथा
Bharadvāja, Vālmīki, Aurva, and likewise Cyavana,
शिलालिर्लाङ्गलिश्चैव शाकल्यः शाकटायनः
Śilāli, Lāṅgali, Śākalya, and Śākaṭāyana,
जैगीषव्यो वामदेवो वालखिल्यादयस्तथा 2.50.
Jaigīṣavya, Vāmadeva, and also the Vālakhilyas,
विश्वामित्रश्च कौत्सश्चाप्यृचीकोऽप्यघमर्षणः
Viśvāmitra, Kautsa, Ṛcīka, and also Aghamarṣaṇa,
दिक्पाला देवताः सर्वा विप्रं पश्चात्समाययुः
All the guardian deities of the directions approached the sage thereafter,
समूचुस्तं क्रमेणैव नीतिं नीतिविशारदाः
Those skilled in righteousness addressed him in due order,
इति श्रीब्रह्मवैवर्त्ते महापुराणे द्वितीये प्रकृतिखण्डे नारदनारायणसंवादान्तर्गतहरगौरीसंवादे राधोपाख्याने सुयज्ञोपाख्यानं नाम पञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the fiftieth chapter, named 'The Story of Suyajña,' in the narrative of Rādhā within the dialogue of Hara and Gaurī, which is part of the conversation between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa, in the Prakṛti section of the great Brahmavaivarta Purāṇa.
श्रीपार्वत्युवाच नीतिज्ञा नीतिवचनं तन्मां व्याख्यातुमर्हसि
Śrī Pārvatī said: You who know righteousness, you ought to explain to me that teaching on righteousness.
श्रीमहादेव उवाच क्रमेण वक्तुमारेभे मुनिसंघो वरानने
Śrī Mahādeva said: O beautiful-faced one, the assembly of sages began to speak in turn.
सनत्कुमार उवाच सुशीलं च महैश्वर्यं पितरोऽग्निः सुरास्तथा
Sanatkumāra said: Good conduct and great prosperity, as well as the ancestors, fire, and the gods,
आगता नृपगेहेभ्यः कृत्वा भ्रष्टश्रियं नृपम्
Having come from the houses of kings, they caused the king to lose his splendor.
ब्राह्मणानां तु हृदयं कोमलं नवनीतवत्
The hearts of brāhmaṇas are as soft as fresh butter.
क्षमस्वागच्छ विप्रेन्द्र शुद्धं कुरु नृपालयम्
Forgive, approach, O best of brāhmaṇas, purify the royal abode.
भृगुरुवाच पितरस्तस्य देवाश्च वह्निश्चैव तथैव च
Bhṛgu said: The ancestors, the gods, and likewise fire,
निराशाः प्रतिगच्छन्ति चातिथेरप्रतिग्रहात्
Depart disappointed when a guest is not received or honored.
स्त्रीघ्नैर्गोघ्नैः कृतघ्नैश्च ब्रह्मघ्नैर्गुरुतल्पगैः
By those who kill women, cows, or are ungrateful, who slay brāhmaṇas, or violate the teacher's bed,
