सिन्दूरबिन्दुसंयुक्तं कस्तूरीबिन्दुसंयुतम् 1.10.
Adorned with a spot of vermilion and a mark of musk.
तामुवाच प्रियां शान्तां कामशास्त्रविशारदः
He, skilled in the science of love, spoke to her, his dear and gentle one.
विश्वकर्मोवाच मम प्राणांश्चापहत्य तिष्ठ कान्ते क्षणं शुभे
Viśvakarmā said: Having lost my very life-breath for you, O lovely one, stay a moment.
तवैवान्वेषणं कृत्वा भ्रमामि जगतीतलम्
Having searched for you alone, I wander the surface of the earth.
त्वं कामलोकं यासीति श्रुत्वा रम्भामुखोदितम्
Hearing from Rambhā’s mouth that you are going to the world of Kāma—
अहो सरस्वतीतीरे पुष्पोद्याने मनोहरे
Ah, on the charming bank of the Sarasvatī, in a garden of flowers—
यभ कान्ते मया सार्द्धं यूना कान्तेन शोभने
O beautiful one, just as a youthful lover delights with his beloved, so I have been with you.
स्थिरयौवनसंयुक्ता त्वमेव चिरजीविनी
Endowed with steadfast youth, you alone are long-lived.
मृत्युंजयवरेणैव मृत्युकन्या जिता मया
By the boon of the conqueror of death, I have overcome the maiden of death.
रत्नमाला च वरुणाद्वायोः स्त्रीरत्नभूषणम्
Ratnamālā, the ornament of women, came from Varuṇa and Vāyu.
कामशास्त्रं कामदेवाद्योषिद्रञ्जनकारम् 1.10.
The Kāmaśāstra, which delights women, came from Kāmadeva.
रत्नमालां वस्त्रयुग्मं सर्वाण्याभरणानि च
The garland of jewels, a pair of garments, and all ornaments,
गृहे तानि च संस्थाप्य चागतोऽन्वेषणे भवे
Having placed those in the house, he went out in search.
कामुकस्य वचः श्रुत्वा घृताची सस्मिता मुने
Hearing the words of the passionate one, Ghṛtācī smiled, O sage.
घृताच्युवाच । किन्तु सामयिकं वाक्यं ब्रवीष्यामि स्मरातुर
Ghṛtācī said: But I will speak a word appropriate to the time, O love-stricken one.
कामदेवालयं यामि कृतवेषा च तत्कृते
I am going to the abode of Kāmadeva, adorned for that purpose.
अद्याहं कामपत्नी च गुरुपत्नी तवाधुना
Today I am the wife of Kāma, and now also your teacher's wife.
विद्यादाता मन्त्रदाता गुरुर्लक्षगुणैः पितुः
The giver of knowledge, the giver of mantra, the guru is a hundred thousand times more than a father.
गुरोः शतगुणैः पूज्या गुरुपत्नी श्रुतौ श्रुता
In the scriptures it is said that the guru's wife is to be honored a hundred times more than the guru.
मात्रा समागमे सूनोर्यावान्दोषः श्रुतौ श्रुतः
In the scriptures, the fault incurred by a son who unites with his mother is declared.
मातरित्येव शब्देन यां च सम्भाषते नरः 1.10.
And the woman whom a man addresses with the word 'mother,'
तया हि संगतो यस्स्यात्कालसूत्रं प्रयाति सः
Whoever unites with her, his thread of life is cut.
मात्रा सह समायोगे ततो दोषश्चतुर्गुणः
Union with one's mother brings a fault four times greater.
कुम्भीपाके पतत्येव यावद्वै ब्रह्मणो वयः
He falls into Kumbhīpāka hell for as many ages as there are of Brahmā.
चक्राकारं कुलालस्य तीक्ष्णधारं च खङ्गवत्
Round like a potter’s wheel, and sharp-edged like a sword,
शूलवत्कृमिसंयुक्तं तप्तमग्निसमं द्रवत्
Infested with worms like a spear, molten and as hot as fire,
यावान्दोषो हि पुंसां च गुरुपत्नीसमागमे
Such is the extent of sin for a man who unites with his teacher’s wife.
अद्य यास्यामि कामस्य मन्दिरं तस्य कामिनी
Today I will go to the abode of Kāma, to that lover’s beloved.
घृताचीवचनं श्रुत्वा विश्वकर्मा रुरोष ताम्
Hearing Ghṛtācī’s words, Viśvakarman grew angry at her.
घृताची तद्वचः श्रुत्वा तं शशाप सुदारुणम्
Hearing those words of Ghṛtācī, he cursed her with a terrible curse.
