I will recount the tale from the very beginning of creation; listen attentively.
Once, the Lord of Rādhā, together with Rādhā, out of playful curiosity—
—suddenly, in a secluded place, sported with delight.
By his playful will, from his left side, he created the goddess Surabhī.
Seeing Surabhī with her calf, he milked her into a jeweled vessel.
The Lord of the cowherd women himself drank that warm, sweet milk.
There appeared, vast and expansive, a lake a hundred yojanas around.
That became the play-lake of Rādhā and the cowherd women.
Suddenly, hundreds of millions of wish-fulfilling cows came into being.
Their sons and grandsons also arose, countless in number.
Formerly, O sage, the Lord performed worship of Surabhī.
On the next day, by the command of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, worship was performed with lamps.
Meditation, hymn, root-mantra, and whatever procedures of worship there may be—
The mantra 'Om, obeisance to Surabhi' is this six-syllabled mantra.
The established meditation is found in the Yajur Veda, and the worship is universally approved.
She is of the form of Lakshmi, supreme, and the exalted companion of Radha.
She is pure in form, worthy of worship, and fulfiller of all desires for devotees.
Whether on a pot, on the head of a cow, on a fixed post, or among cows—
With a lamp, on the following day, in the forenoon, with devotion—
Once, in the three worlds, during the Varaha age, by the power of Vishnu's Maya—
They went to the world of Brahma and then praised Brahma.
Mahendra said: O Mother of the universe, obeisance to you, who are the seed-form of cows.
Obeisance again and again to her who is dear to Radha, who is a portion of Padma, who is of the form of the wish-fulfilling tree, and who bestows all wealth.
Obeisance again and again to the giver of prosperity, the giver of wealth, and the giver of wisdom.
Obeisance again and again to Yashoda, the giver of happiness, and the knower of righteousness.
There itself, in Brahma's world, the eternal one manifested.
She went to Goloka, and the gods and others returned to their homes.
From milk comes ghee, then sacrifice, then the joy of the gods.
He who possesses cows and wealth becomes renowned and virtuous.
Enjoying happiness in this world, at the end he goes to Krishna's abode.
