तेन त्वां मनसादेवीं प्रवदन्ति पुराविदः 2.46.
Therefore, the knowers of ancient lore call you the goddess in the mind.
यो हि यद्भावयेन्नित्यं शतं प्राप्नोति तत्समम्
Whoever contemplates anything always attains a hundredfold of that.
निर्जगाम स्वभवनं भूषावासपरिच्छदाम्
She departed to her own abode, along with her ornaments, garments, and attendants.
भ्रातृभिः पूजिता शश्वन्मान्या वन्द्या च सर्वतः
She was always worshipped by her brothers, honored and revered everywhere.
तां स्नापयित्वा क्षीरेण पूजयामास सादरम् तदा देवैः पूजिता सा स्वर्गलोकं पुनर्ययौ
After bathing her with milk, he worshipped her with great reverence; then, having been worshipped by the gods, she returned again to the heavenly realm.
इदं स्तोत्रं पुण्यबीजं तां संपूज्य च यः पठेत्
Whoever, having worshipped her, recites this hymn, the seed of merit—
विषं भवेत्सुधातुल्यं सिद्धस्तोत्रं यदा पठेत्
—for him, even poison becomes like nectar, when he recites this perfected hymn.
सर्पशायी भवेत्सोऽपि निश्चितं सर्पवाहनः
He will certainly become one who lies upon serpents, or one whose vehicle is a serpent.
नारद उवाच तज्जन्मचरितं ब्रह्मञ्छ्रोतुमिच्छामि तत्त्वतः
Nārada said: O Brahman, I wish to hear the true account of her birth and deeds.
नारायण उवाच गवां प्रधाना सुरभी गोलोके च समुद्भवा
Nārāyaṇa said: Among cows, Surabhī is foremost, and she was born in Goloka.
सर्वादिसृष्टेः कथनं कथयामि निशामय
I will recount the tale from the very beginning of creation; listen attentively.
एकदा राधिकानाथो राधया सह कौतुकात्
Once, the Lord of Rādhā, together with Rādhā, out of playful curiosity—
सहसा तत्र रहसि विजहार च कौतुकात्
—suddenly, in a secluded place, sported with delight.
ससृजे सुरभीं देवीं लीलया वामपार्श्वतः
By his playful will, from his left side, he created the goddess Surabhī.
दृष्ट्वा सवत्सां सुरभीं रत्नभाण्डे दुदोह सः
Seeing Surabhī with her calf, he milked her into a jeweled vessel.
तदुष्णं च पयः स्वादु पपौ गोपीपतिः स्वयम्
The Lord of the cowherd women himself drank that warm, sweet milk.
दीर्घे च विस्तृते चैव परितः शतयोजनम्
There appeared, vast and expansive, a lake a hundred yojanas around.
गोपिकानां च राधायाः क्रीडावापी बभूव सा 2.47.
That became the play-lake of Rādhā and the cowherd women.
बभूव कामधेनूनां सहसा लक्षकोटयः
Suddenly, hundreds of millions of wish-fulfilling cows came into being.
तासां पुत्राश्च पौत्राश्च संबभूवुरसंख्यकाः
Their sons and grandsons also arose, countless in number.
पूजां चकार भगवान्सुरभ्याश्च पुरा मुने
Formerly, O sage, the Lord performed worship of Surabhī.
दीपान्विता परदिने श्रीकृष्णस्याज्ञया भवे
On the next day, by the command of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, worship was performed with lamps.
ध्यानं स्तोत्रं मूलमन्त्रं यद्यत्पूजाविधिक्रमम्
Meditation, hymn, root-mantra, and whatever procedures of worship there may be—
ॐ सुरभ्यै नम इति मन्त्रोऽयं तु षडक्षरः
The mantra 'Om, obeisance to Surabhi' is this six-syllabled mantra.
स्थितं ध्यानं यजुर्वेदे पूजनं सर्वसम्मतम्
The established meditation is found in the Yajur Veda, and the worship is universally approved.
लक्ष्मीस्वरूपां परमां राधासहचरीं पराम्
She is of the form of Lakshmi, supreme, and the exalted companion of Radha.
पवित्ररूपां पूज्यां च भक्तानां सर्वकामदाम्
She is pure in form, worthy of worship, and fulfiller of all desires for devotees.
घटे वा धेनुशिरसि बद्धस्तंभे गवां च वा 2.47.
Whether on a pot, on the head of a cow, on a fixed post, or among cows—
दीपान्विता परदिने पूर्वाह्णे भक्तिसंयुतः
With a lamp, on the following day, in the forenoon, with devotion—
एकदा त्रिषु लोकेषु वाराहे विष्णुमायया
Once, in the three worlds, during the Varaha age, by the power of Vishnu's Maya—
