And seeing his desired deity, beyond qualities, transcending nature,
He offered obeisance to Shiva, to Brahma, and also to Kashyapa.
Hearing those words, Brahma immediately spoke in accordance with the situation.
If a wife, though abandoned, is righteous and pure in mind,
Or if one is an ascetic, a celibate, a mendicant, or a forest-dweller,
But if, without producing offspring, one renounces his beloved out of detachment,
Hearing the words of Brahma, the great sage Jaratkaru,
Giving her auspicious blessings, the gods departed joyfully.
By the mere touch of the sage's hand, a pregnancy immediately arose.
Jaratkaru said: 'Foremost among the self-controlled, righteous, leader among Vaishnavas,'
'Radiant, austere, renowned, endowed with virtues,'
'That son, devoted to Vishnu and righteous, will uplift the lineage.'
A woman who is devoted to her husband, virtuous, beloved, and speaks affectionately,
Who grants devotion to Hari, who is a friend, and whose presence brings happiness,
She who bears a child, and who releases the child from the womb,
The teacher who imparts knowledge, whose knowledge is contemplation of Krishna,
Whether that knowledge appears, disappears, or is otherwise, it is distinct from other knowledge.
The essence of the principles is that anything apart from Hari is mere imitation.
By knowledge, one is freed from bondage; that enemy is truly the giver of bondage.
That enemy is the destroyer of disciples, for he does not release them from bondage.
He who does not free them, how can he be called a teacher or a true friend?
He who does not show the way, how can he be considered a friend of men? By service, previous karma becomes rootless and certainly destroyed.
By trickery, I have abandoned you; forgive my fault, beloved.
I go to Puṣkara for austerity; go, O goddess, as you please.
A woman's affection for wealth and other things follows the path of inclination.
Hearing the words of Jaratkāru, she became distressed in her mind.
She spoke in her mind: Wherever I remember you, O friend, there you will come to me.
Division among relatives is the greatest affliction; division among sons is even greater.
For devoted wives, the husband is dearer than a hundred sons.
Just as for those with only one son, and for Vaishnavas, Hari is supreme.
