या सुशीलाभिधा गोपी पुराऽऽसीद्राधिकासखी
That gopī named Suśīlā was formerly a companion of Rādhikā.
प्रध्वस्ता सा च तच्छापाद्गोलोकाद्विश्वमागता
She too was ruined by that curse and came from Goloka to the world.
सा प्रेयसी रतौ दक्षा प्रशस्ता सर्वकर्मसु
She is beloved, skilled in love, and praised in all actions.
गोप्या बभूवुस्तिस्रो वै स्वधा स्वाहा च दक्षिणा
Three gopīs became Svadhā, Svāhā, and Dakṣiṇā.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा स ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मलोके च संसदि
Having spoken thus, Brahmā, in the assembly in Brahmaloka,
तदा पितृभ्यः प्रददौ तामेव कमलाननाम्
Then he gave that lotus-faced one to the Pitṛs.
स्वधास्तोत्रमिदं पुण्यं यः शृणोति समाहितः
Whoever listens attentively to this sacred hymn to Svadhā,
नारायण उवाच वक्ष्यामि दक्षिणाख्यानं सावधानं निशामय
Nārāyaṇa said: I will tell the story of Dakṣiṇā; listen carefully.
गोपी सुशीला गोलोके पुराऽऽसीत्प्रेयसी हरेः अतीव सुन्दरी रामा सुभगा सुदती सती
The gopī Suśīlā was once Hare's beloved in Goloka, exceedingly beautiful, charming, fortunate, lovely-toothed, and virtuous.
विद्यावती गुणवती सती रूपवती तथा
She was learned, virtuous, chaste, and beautiful.
सुश्रोणी सुस्तनी श्यामा न्यग्रोधपरिमण्डला
She had lovely hips, beautiful breasts, a dark complexion, and a figure like a banyan tree.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभा बिम्बोष्ठी मृगलोचना
Her radiance was like white campaka flowers, her lips were red as bimba fruit, and her eyes were like those of a deer.
भावानुरक्ता भावज्ञा कृष्णस्य प्रियभामिनी
She was devoted in feeling, wise in emotion, and Krishna's beloved.
उवास दक्षिणे क्रोडे राधायाः पुरतः पुरा
She once dwelled at the right side of Rādhā, in front of her.
दृष्ट्वा राधां च पुरतो गोपीनां प्रवरां वराम्
Seeing Radha before her, the foremost and most excellent among the gopis,
कोपेन कम्पिताङ्गी च कोपनां कोपदर्शनाम्
Her limbs trembling with anger, displaying wrath and the appearance of fury,
आगच्छन्तीं च वेगेन विज्ञाय तदनन्तरम् 2.42.
And perceiving her coming swiftly, immediately thereafter,
पलायन्तं च तं शान्तं सत्त्वाधारं सुविग्रहम्
She saw him fleeing, calm, the foundation of beings, with a splendid form,
विलोक्य सङ्कटं तत्र गोपीनां लक्षकोटयः
Beholding the distress there, the hundreds of thousands of gopis,
रक्ष रक्षेत्युक्तवत्यो हे देवीति पुनः पुनः
Repeatedly cried out, 'Protect us, protect us, O goddess!'
त्रिलक्षकोटयो गोपाः सुदामादय एव च
Three hundred thousand gopas, including Sudama and others,
पलायन्तं च कान्तं वै विज्ञाय परमेश्वरी
Recognizing her beloved fleeing, the supreme goddess,
अद्यप्रभृति गोलोकं सा चेदायाति गोपिका
From this day onward, if any gopi comes to Goloka,
इत्येवमुक्त्वा तत्रैव देवदेवीश्वरी रुषा
Having spoken thus, right there, the goddess of gods, with anger,
नालोक्य पुरतः कृष्णं राधा विरहकातरा
Not seeing Krishna before her, Radha, tormented by separation,
हे कृष्ण हे प्राणनाथागच्छ प्राणाधिकप्रिय
'O Krishna, O lord of my life, come, beloved dearer than life,'
स्त्रीगर्वः पतिसौभाग्याद्वर्द्धते च दिने दिने 2.42.
A woman's pride, from her husband's good fortune, increases day by day.
पतिर्बन्धुः कुलस्त्रीणामधिदेवः सदा गतिः
The husband is the kinsman, the supreme deity, and the constant refuge of women of noble families.
धर्मदः सुखदः शश्वत्प्रीतिदः शान्तिदः सदा
He is the giver of dharma, the giver of happiness, always the giver of affection, and always the giver of peace.
सारात्सारतमः स्वामी बन्धूनां बन्धुवर्द्धनः
He is the essence of all, the most excellent master, the kinsman who increases the welfare of relatives.
