वाणीरूपां च पद्मां च भद्रां कृष्णप्रियात्मिकाम्
Also Sarasvati in the form of speech, Lakshmi, Bhadrā, and the beloved essence of Krishna.
तत्प्रसादाद्भवेज्ज्ञानी ज्ञानानन्दं तदा भजेत्
By her grace, one becomes wise and then attains the bliss of knowledge.
शिवं शिवस्वरूपं च शिवदं शिवकारणम्
He contemplates Shiva, the embodiment of auspiciousness, the giver and cause of auspiciousness.
सुखदं मोक्षदं चैव दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम्
The giver of happiness and liberation, the bestower of all wealth.
इन्द्रत्वं च मनुत्वं च दातुं शक्तं च लीलया
He is able, by his play, to grant the status of Indra or Manu.
जन्मत्रयं तमाराध्य चाशुतोषप्रसादतः
By worshipping him for three lifetimes, and through his easily obtained grace,
वरदस्य वरेणैव हरिभक्तिं लभेद्ध्रुवम्
By the boon of the giver of boons, one certainly attains devotion to Hari.
निर्म्मलज्ञानदीपेन प्रदीप्तेन च तत्त्ववित् 2.36.
With the pure lamp of knowledge burning, the knower of truth shines.
दयानिधेः प्रसादेन निर्मलज्ञानमालभेत् ११! यत्र देहे लभेन्मन्त्रं तद्देहावधि भारते
By the grace of the ocean of compassion, one attains pure knowledge; wherever he receives the mantra in the body, in that body in Bharata,
तत्पाञ्चभौतिकं त्यक्त्वा बिभृयाद्दिव्यरूपकम्
Abandoning that body made of the five elements, he assumes a divine form.
परमानन्दसंयुक्तो मोहादिषु विवर्जितः
United with supreme bliss, free from delusion and the like.
पुनश्च न पिबेत्क्षीरं धृत्वा मातृस्तनं परम्
He does not again drink milk, nor take the mother's breast as before.
स्वधर्मिणां च भिक्षूणां पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते
For monks devoted to their own dharma, there is no further birth.
अयं निरूपितो धात्रा स्वधर्मस्तीर्थसेविनाम्
This is the dharma established by the Creator for those who observe holy places.
व्रतोपवासरत इत्युक्तो वै विष्णुसेविनाम्
One who is devoted to vows and fasting is said to be a servant of Viṣṇu.
समा बुद्धिर्यस्य शश्वत्स संन्यासीति कीर्तितः
He whose mind is always even is called a renunciant.
नित्यं प्रवासी नैकत्र स्यात्संन्यासीति कीर्त्तितः 2.36.
He who is always a wanderer and does not stay in one place is called a renunciant.
किन्तु किंचिन्न याचेत स संन्यासीति कीर्त्तितः
But he who does not beg for anything at all is called a renunciant.
ध्यायेन्नारायणं शश्वत्स संन्यासीति कीर्त्तितः
He who always meditates on Nārāyaṇa is called a renunciant.
सर्वं ब्रह्ममयं पश्येत्स संन्यासीति कीर्त्तितः
He who sees everything as pervaded by Brahman is called a renunciant.
क्रोधाहङ्काररहितः स संन्यासीति कीर्त्तितः
He who is free from anger and ego is called a renunciant.
न याचते भक्षणार्थी स संन्यासीति कीर्त्तितः
He who does not beg for food is called a renunciant.
दारवीमपि योषां च न स्पृशेद्यः स भिक्षुकः
He who does not touch wood or women is a mendicant.
विपर्य्यये विनाशश्च जन्मयाम्यं भयं भवेत्
In the opposite case, there is destruction, and fear of birth in hell arises.
सुरसूकरयोनौ वा गर्भे दुःखं समं सुर
Whether in the womb of a god or a boar, there is equal suffering, O god.
गर्भे स्मरन्ति सर्वे ते कर्म्म जन्म शतोद्भवम् स्वदेहं पाति यत्नेन सुरो वा कीट एव वा
In the womb, all remember their deeds from a hundred births; whether god or insect, each protects his own body with effort.
योनेरभ्यन्तरे शुक्रे पतिते पुरुषस्य च 2.36.
When semen falls inside the womb, O person,
रक्ताधिके मातृसमश्चेतरे पितुराकृतिः
If there is more blood, the child is like the mother; otherwise, he has the father's form.
रविभौमगुरूणां च वारे चेत्तद्भवेत्सुतः
If birth occurs on the day of the Sun, Mars, or Jupiter, then the child is born accordingly.
प्रथमप्रहरे जन्म यस्य सोऽल्पायुरेव च
He whose birth is in the first quarter of the day is indeed short-lived.
