ब्रह्मादिस्तम्बपर्य्यन्तं सर्वं मिथ्यैव केवलम्
From Brahmā down to a blade of grass, all is indeed entirely false alone.
अतीव सुखदं सारं भुक्तिदं मुक्तिदं परम्
It is the essence that gives intense happiness, bestows enjoyment, and grants the highest liberation.
योगिनामपि सिद्धानां यतीनां च तपस्विनाम्
Even for yogis, perfected beings, ascetics, and those devoted to austerity,
भस्मसाच्च भवेत्पापं यदुपस्पर्शमात्रतः
Sin is destroyed by mere touch of the ashes.
ततो रोगा हि वेपन्ते पापानि च भयानि च
Therefore, diseases tremble, sins and fears as well.
तावन्निबद्धः संसारे कारागारे विधेर्जनः
So long as a person is bound in worldly existence, in the prison of fate,
कृतकर्मौघभोगाख्यनिगडच्छेदकारणम्
It is the cause for cutting the chains called the multitude of actions and their enjoyments.
गोलोकमार्गसोपानं निस्तारे बीजकारणम् 2.36.
It is the stairway to the path of Goloka, the seed-cause for liberation.
सारं च सर्वतपसां योवानां साधनं तथा
It is the essence of all austerities, and likewise the means for the young.
दानानां तीर्थशौचानां यज्ञादीनां पुरन्दर
Of gifts, of holy baths, of sacrifices and the like, O Purandara,
पुंसां लक्षं पितॄणां च शतं मातामहस्य च
For men, a hundred thousand; for ancestors, a hundred; and for the maternal grandfather,
सहोदरं कलत्रं च वक्तुं शिष्यं च किङ्करम्
A brother, a wife, as well as a disciple and a servant,
स्वात्मानं च सतीर्थ्यं च गुरुपत्नीं गुरोः सुतम्
One's own self, a fellow pilgrim, the guru's wife, and the guru's son,
मन्त्रग्रहणमात्रेण जीवन्मुक्तो भवेन्नरः
By the mere act of receiving the mantra, a man becomes liberated while living.
अनेकजन्मपर्य्यन्तं दीक्षाहीनो भवेन्नरः
Without initiation, a man remains so for countless births.
सप्तजन्मसु देवानां कृत्वा सेवां स्वकर्मतः
Serving the gods for seven births, according to one's own actions,
जन्मत्रयं भास्करं च सेवित्वा मानवः शुचिः
After serving the Sun for three lifetimes, a man becomes pure.
जन्मत्रयं तं निषेव्य निर्विघ्नश्च भवेन्नरः 2.36.
By serving him for three lifetimes, a man becomes free from obstacles.
तदा ज्ञानप्रदीपेन समालोच्य महामतिः
Then, with the lamp of knowledge, the wise one reflects.
प्रकृतिं विष्णुमायां च दुर्गां दुर्गतिनाशिनीम्
He contemplates Prakriti, Vishnu's Maya, Durga, the destroyer of misfortune.
वाणीरूपां च पद्मां च भद्रां कृष्णप्रियात्मिकाम्
Also Sarasvati in the form of speech, Lakshmi, Bhadrā, and the beloved essence of Krishna.
तत्प्रसादाद्भवेज्ज्ञानी ज्ञानानन्दं तदा भजेत्
By her grace, one becomes wise and then attains the bliss of knowledge.
शिवं शिवस्वरूपं च शिवदं शिवकारणम्
He contemplates Shiva, the embodiment of auspiciousness, the giver and cause of auspiciousness.
सुखदं मोक्षदं चैव दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम्
The giver of happiness and liberation, the bestower of all wealth.
इन्द्रत्वं च मनुत्वं च दातुं शक्तं च लीलया
He is able, by his play, to grant the status of Indra or Manu.
जन्मत्रयं तमाराध्य चाशुतोषप्रसादतः
By worshipping him for three lifetimes, and through his easily obtained grace,
वरदस्य वरेणैव हरिभक्तिं लभेद्ध्रुवम्
By the boon of the giver of boons, one certainly attains devotion to Hari.
निर्म्मलज्ञानदीपेन प्रदीप्तेन च तत्त्ववित् 2.36.
With the pure lamp of knowledge burning, the knower of truth shines.
दयानिधेः प्रसादेन निर्मलज्ञानमालभेत् ११! यत्र देहे लभेन्मन्त्रं तद्देहावधि भारते
By the grace of the ocean of compassion, one attains pure knowledge; wherever he receives the mantra in the body, in that body in Bharata,
तत्पाञ्चभौतिकं त्यक्त्वा बिभृयाद्दिव्यरूपकम्
Abandoning that body made of the five elements, he assumes a divine form.
