तामित्युवाच सन्तुष्टस्त्वरोदीच्चापि नारद
Then, being pleased, Nārada spoke to her, who was weeping,
यम उवाच अन्ते यास्यसि गोलोके श्रीकृष्णभवनं शुभे
Yama said: In the end, you will go to Goloka, the blessed abode of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
गत्वा च स्वगृहं भद्रे सावित्र्याश्च व्रतं कुरु
Go to your own home, O auspicious one, and perform the vow of Savitri.
ज्येष्ठे शुक्लचतुर्दश्यां सावित्र्याश्च व्रतं शुभम्
On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Jyeshtha, perform the auspicious vow of Savitri.
द्व्यष्टवर्षव्रतं चेदं प्रत्यब्दं पक्षमेव च
This vow is to be observed for twenty-eight years, every year and every fortnight.
प्रतिमङ्गलवारे च देवीं मङ्गलचण्डिकाम्
And on every auspicious Tuesday, worship the goddess Mangala-Chandika.
तथा चाषाढसंक्रान्त्यां मनसा सर्वसिद्धिदाम् 2.34.
Likewise, on the occasion of the Ashadha solstice, with your mind, worship her who grants all accomplishments.
उपोष्य शुक्लाष्टम्यां च प्रतिमासे वरप्रदाम्
Having fasted on the bright eighth day each month, worship her who bestows boons.
प्रकृतिं जगदम्बां च पतिपुत्रवतीं सतीम्
Worship the primordial Mother of the world, chaste and blessed with husband and sons.
या नारी पूजयेद्भक्त्या धनसन्तानहेतवे
Any woman who worships her with devotion for the sake of wealth and progeny—
इत्युक्त्वा तां धर्मराजो जगाम निजमन्दिरम्
Having thus spoken, the Lord of Dharma returned to his own abode.
सावित्री सत्यवन्तं च वृत्तान्तं च यथाक्रमम्
Savitri related the entire account to Satyavan in due order.
सावित्रीजनकः पुत्रान्स प्रापद्वै क्रमेण च
The father of Savitri then obtained sons, one after another.
लक्षवर्षं सुखं भुक्त्वा पुण्यक्षेत्रे च भारते
Having enjoyed happiness for a hundred thousand years in the holy land of Bharata,
सवितुश्चाधिदेवी या मन्त्राधिष्ठातृदेवता
She who is the presiding goddess of Savitr, the deity who empowers the mantra,
इत्येवं कथितं वत्स सावित्र्याख्यानमुत्तमम्
Thus, O child, the excellent story called the legend of Savitri has been told.
नारद उवाच सावित्रीयमसंवादे श्रुतं सुविमलं यशः
Narada said: In the dialogue concerning Savitri, the pure and renowned tale has been heard.
तद्गुणोत्कीर्त्तनं सत्यं मंगलानां च मङ्गलम्
The praise of her virtues is truly the most auspicious of all auspicious things.
केनादौ पूजिता साऽपि किम्भूता केन वा पुरा
By whom was she first worshipped, what was her nature, and by whom, in ancient times?
नारायण उवाच देवी वामांशसंभूता चासीत्सा रासमण्डले
Narāyaṇa said: The goddess, born from the left side, was present in the circle of the rasa dance.
अतीव सुन्दरी श्यामा न्यग्रोधपरिमण्डला
She is exceedingly beautiful, dark-complexioned, and her form is as broad as a banyan tree.
श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभा सुखदृश्या मनोहरा
Her radiance resembles white campaka flowers; she is pleasing to behold and enchanting.
शरन्मध्याह्नपद्मानां शोभाशोभितलोचना
Her eyes shine with the splendor of midday autumn lotuses.
समा रूपेण वर्णेन तेजसा वयसा त्विषा
She is equal in form, color, brilliance, youth, and luster.
स्मितेन वीक्षणेनैव वचसा गमनेन च
By her smile, glance, speech, and movement alone,
तद्वामांशा महालक्ष्मीर्दक्षिणांशा च राधिका 2.35.
From her left side emerged Mahālakṣmī, and from her right side Rādhikā.
महालक्ष्मीश्च तत्पश्चाच्चकमे कमनीयकम्
Mahālakṣmī then took the most delightful form.
दक्षिणांशो वै द्विभुजो वामांशश्च चतुर्भुजः
The right side is two-armed, and the left side is four-armed.
लक्ष्यते दृश्यते विश्वं स्निग्धदृष्ट्या ययाऽनिशम्
By her gentle gaze, the whole world is always perceived and seen.
द्विभुजो राधिकाकान्तो लक्ष्मीकान्तश्चतुर्भुजः
The two-armed one is the beloved of Rādhikā; the four-armed one is the beloved of Lakṣmī.
