तपनश्च प्रतपति यद्भयात्सन्ततं सति
The sun shines continually out of fear of Him.
यदाज्ञया दहेद्वह्निर्जलमेव सुशीतलम्
By His command, fire burns and water remains cool.
भ्रमन्ति राशिचक्राणि ग्रहा वै यद्भयेन च
The planets and the zodiacal signs revolve out of fear of Him.
भयात्फलानि पक्वानि निष्फलास्तरवो भयात्
Fruits ripen and trees become barren out of fear of Him.
तथा स्थले जलस्थाश्च न जीवन्ति यदाज्ञया
Likewise, those on land and in water do not live without His command.
कालश्च कलयेत्सर्वं भ्रमत्येव यदाज्ञया
Time measures all and moves only by His command.
ज्वलदग्नौ पतन्तं च गभीरे च जलार्णवे
Falling into blazing fire and into the deep ocean of water,
नानाशस्त्रास्त्रविद्धं च रणेषु विषमेषु च 2.34.
Pierced by various weapons and missiles, and in the midst of perilous battles,
शयानं तन्त्रमन्त्रैश्च काले कालो हरेद्भयात्
Lying down, bound by spells and incantations, time seizes one out of fear at the appointed hour,
कूर्मोऽनन्तं स च क्षोणीं समुद्रान्सप्तपर्वतान्
The tortoise supports Ananta, and he supports the earth, the seven oceans, and the mountains,
यतः सर्वाणि भूतानि लीयन्तेऽन्ते च तत्र वै
All beings dissolve there at the end, indeed,
अष्टाविंशच्छक्रपाते ब्रह्मणस्स्यादहर्निशम्
In twenty-eight Indra cycles, a day and night of Brahma is completed,
युगे नराणां शक्रायुरेवं संख्याविदो विदुः
Those who know the calculations know that the lifespan of Indra in a yuga is thus,
ऋतुभिः षड्भिरेवाब्दं शताब्दं ब्रह्मणो वयः
With six seasons, a year passes; a hundred years is the age of Brahma,
चक्षुर्निमीलने तस्य लयं प्राकृतिकं विदुः
When he closes his eyes, they know it as the dissolution into primal nature,
लीना धातरि धाता च श्रीकृष्णे नाभिपङ्कजे
The creator and creation are dissolved in the lotus of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s navel,
विलीना वामपार्श्वे च कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः
Or dissolved in the left side of Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Self,
शिवाधारे शिवे लीना ज्ञानानन्दे सनातने 2.34.
Dissolved in the foundation of Śiva, in Śiva, in eternal knowledge and bliss,
तस्य ज्ञाने विलीनश्च बभूवाथ क्षणं हरेः
In his knowledge, dissolution occurred for a moment in Hari,
सा च कृष्णस्य बुद्धौ च बुद्ध्यधिष्ठातृदेवता
She is the deity presiding over intellect in the mind of Kṛṣṇa,
श्रीकृष्णांशश्च तद्बाहौ देवाधीशो गणेश्वरः
The lord of the gods, Gaṇeśvara, is a portion of Śrī Kṛṣṇa in his arms,
गोप्यश्चापि च तस्यां च सर्वा वै देवयोषितः
And the gopīs, and all the divine women, are also in her,
सावित्री च सरस्वत्यां वेदशास्त्राणि यानि च
Sāvitrī is in Sarasvatī, and all the Vedic scriptures,
गोलोकस्थस्य गोपाश्च विलीनास्तस्य लोमसु
The cowherds of Goloka are dissolved in his hairs.
जठराग्नौ विलीनश्च जलं तद्रसनाग्रतः
And the water, having been dissolved in the fire of the stomach, reaches the tip of the tongue.
सारात्सारतरा भक्तिरसपीयूषपायिनः
Those who drink the nectar of devotion, which is the essence of all essences,
यस्यैव लोमकूपेषु विश्वानि निखिलानि च
In whose very pores all the worlds, indeed the entirety, reside,
चक्षुरुन्मीलने सृष्टिर्यस्यैव परमात्मनः 2.34.
By whose opening of the eyes, O Supreme Self, creation comes into being,
ब्रह्मणश्च शताब्देन सृष्टिस्तत्र लयः पुनः
And with the passing of a hundred years of Brahmā, there is dissolution and then creation again.
यथा भूरजसां चैव संख्यानं च निशामय
Now listen to the enumeration of the earth and the dusts as it is,
