विण्मूत्रश्लेष्मभक्ष्यैश्च संयुक्तं शतकोटिभिः
Joined with hundreds of crores of creatures feeding on excrement, urine, and phlegm.
सञ्चालवाजयोः कुण्डं ताभ्यां च परिपूरितम्
A pit of restless horses, completely filled with them.
धनुःशतं वज्रयुक्तं पापिभिः सङ्कुलं सदा
A hundred bows equipped with thunderbolts, always crowded with sinners.
वापीद्विगुणयानं च तप्तप्रस्तरनिर्मितम्
A pond twice the usual size, made of heated stone slabs.
क्षुरधारोपमैस्तीक्ष्णैः पाषाणे र्निर्मितं परम्
A supreme pit made of stones, sharp as razor blades.
दुर्गन्धिलालापूर्णं च तद्भक्ष्यैः पापिभिर्युतम्
Filled with foul-smelling saliva, joined with sinners who feed on it.
तप्ततोयेऽञ्जनाकारैः परिपूर्णं धनुश्शतम्
A hundred bows filled with boiling water, black as collyrium.
पूर्णं चूर्णद्रवैः क्रोशमानं पापिभिरन्वितम् 2.33.
Filled with powdered liquids, wailing, accompanied by sinners.
कुण्डं कुलालचक्राभं घूर्ण्यमानं च सन्ततम्
A pit, resembling a potter’s wheel, constantly revolving,
अतीव वक्रं निम्नं च द्विगव्यूतिप्रमाणकम्
Extremely crooked and deep, measuring two vyūṭis in size,
महापातकिभिर्युक्तं भक्षितैर्जलजन्तुभिः
Filled with great sinners, devoured by aquatic creatures,
कोटिभिर्विकृताकारैः कच्छपैश्च सुदारुणैः
With millions of deformed and terribly fierce tortoises,
ज्वालाकलापैस्तेजोभिनिर्मितं क्रोशमानकम्
Made of blazing clusters of flames, created from intense fire, resounding with cries,
क्रोशमानं गभीरं च तप्तभस्मभिरन्वितम्
Resounding with cries, deep, and filled with burning ashes,
तप्तपाषाणलोष्टानां समूहैः परिपूरितम्
Completely filled with masses of heated stones and clods of earth,
क्रोशमानं ध्वान्तमयं गभीरमतिदारुणैः
Resounding with cries, made of darkness, deep, and exceedingly terrible,
अप्यूर्मियुक्ततोयं च प्रतप्तक्षारसंयुतम्
Even containing water with waves, mixed with intensely heated alkaline substances,
द्विगव्यूतिप्रमाणं च गभीरं ध्वान्तसंयुतम् 2.33.
Measuring two vyūṭis, deep, and filled with darkness.
चलद्भिः क्रन्दमानैश्च न पश्यद्भिः परस्परम्
With beings moving and wailing, unable to see one another,
असिपत्रवनस्यैवाप्युच्चैस्ताल तरोरधः
Even beneath the tall tāla trees of the very forest of sword-leaves,
पापिनां रक्तपूर्णं च वृक्षाग्रात्पततां परम्
Filled with the blood of sinners, falling in abundance from the tops of the trees,
गभीरं ध्वान्तसंयुक्तं रक्तकीटसमन्वितम्
Deep, filled with darkness, and swarming with blood-drinking insects,
धनुश्शतप्रमाणं च क्षुराकारास्त्रसंकुलम्
Measuring a hundred bows in size, crowded with weapons shaped like razors,
सूचीवाश्यास्त्रसंयुक्तं पापिरक्तौघपूरितम्
Filled with needle-like and awl-like weapons, overflowing with the blood of sinners,
गोधाह्वजन्तुभेदस्य मुखाकृति भयानकम्
With terrifying mouths in the form of the faces of monitor lizards and other creatures,
महापातकिना चैव महाक्लेशकरं परम्
And for the great sinners, it is the cause of the utmost suffering.
कुण्डं नरमुखाकारं धनुष्षोडशमानकम्
A pit shaped like a human mouth, measuring sixteen bows in length.
गजेन्द्राणां समूहेन व्याप्तं कुण्डाकृति स्थलम् 2.33.
The area in the form of a pit was filled with groups of lordly elephants.
तत्कीटभक्षितानां च दीनशब्दकृतां सदा
There, those who had been eaten by insects constantly made pitiable sounds.
धनुस्त्रिंशत्प्रमाणं च कुण्डं वै गोमुखाकृति
There is also a pit, shaped like a cow’s mouth, measuring thirty bows.
