स्वगुरौ स्वेष्टदेवे वा जन्मदातरि मातरि
In one's own guru, in one's chosen deity, in the father who gave birth, or in the mother,
वैष्णवेष्वन्यभक्तेषु ब्राह्मणेष्वितरेषु च
In the Vaishnavas, in other devotees, and in other Brahmins as well.
यो मूढो विष्णुनैवेद्ये चान्यनैवेद्यके तथा करोति समतां यो हि ब्रह्महत्यां लभेत्तु सः
Whoever, foolishly, treats food offered to Vishnu and other offerings as equal, he attains the sin of killing a Brahmin.
सर्वेश्वरेश्वरे कृष्णे सर्वकारणकारणे
To Krishna, the Lord of all lords, the cause of all causes,
माययाऽनेकरूपे वाऽप्येक एव हि निर्गुणे
Who, by Maya, appears in many forms, yet is one and without attributes,
पितृदेवार्चनां पौर्वापरां वेदविनिर्मिताम्
The worship of ancestors and gods, established by the Vedas from ancient times,
ये निन्दन्ति हृषीकेशं तन्मन्त्रोपासकं तथा
Those who revile Hrishikesha, and those who worship him with his mantra,
शिवं शिवस्वरूपं च कृष्णप्राणाधिकं प्रियम्
Shiva, the embodiment of auspiciousness, who is dearer to Krishna than life,
प्रधानं वैष्णवानां च देवानां सव्यमीश्वरम्
The chief among Vaishnavas, the lord of the gods, the sovereign ruler,
ये विष्णुमायां निन्दन्ति विष्णुभक्तिप्रदां सतीम् 2.30.
Those who revile Vishnu's Maya, which bestows devotion to Vishnu and is pure,
सर्वदेवीस्वरूपां च सर्वाद्यां सर्ववन्दिताम्
Who is the form of all goddesses, the first of all, honored by all,
कृष्णजन्माष्टमीं रामनवमीं पुण्यदां पराम्
Krishna's birth on the eighth day, Rama's birth on the ninth, both supremely auspicious,
पञ्चपर्वाणि पुण्यानि ये न कुर्वन्ति मानवाः
Those people who do not observe the five sacred festivals,
अम्बुवीच्यांबुखनने जले शौचादिकं च ये
Those who neglect purity and other rites in water, in waves, or in wells,
गुरुं च मातरं तातं साध्वीं भार्य्यां सुतं सुताम्
Guru, mother, father, virtuous wife, son, and daughter,
विवाहो यस्य न भवेन्न पश्यति सुतं च यः
One whose marriage does not occur, or who does not see his own son,
हरेरनैवेद्यभोजी नित्यं विष्णुं न पूजयेत्
Whoever habitually eats food offered to Hari, yet does not worship Vishnu,
आहारं कुर्वतीं गां च पिबन्तीं यो निवारयेत्
Whoever prevents a cow from eating or drinking,
दण्डैर्गास्ताडयेन्मूढो यो विप्रो वृषवाहकः
The foolish Brahmin who strikes cows with sticks, or who rides on a bull,
ददाति गोभ्य उच्छिष्टं योजयेद्वृषवाहकम् ।। 2.30.
Who gives leftovers to cows, or employs a bull as a beast of burden.
वृषलीपतिं याजयेद्यो भुंक्तेऽन्नं तस्य यो नरः
Whoever performs a sacrifice for the husband of a woman of low caste, or whoever eats food from him—
पादं ददाति वह्नौ च गाश्च पादेन ताडयेत्
Who places his foot in the fire, or strikes cows with his foot—
यो भुंक्ते स्निग्धपादेन शेते स्निग्धांघ्रिरेव च
Who eats with an oily foot, or sleeps with oily feet—
अवीरान्नं च यो भुंक्ते योनिजीवी च वै द्विजः
Who eats food not fit for a hero, or a twice-born who lives by base means—
पितॄंश्च पर्वकाले च तिथिकाले च देवताम्
Who, at the time of the ancestors or on sacred days, offers to the gods—
स्वभर्तरि च कृष्णे च भेदबुद्धिं करोति या
A woman who makes a distinction in her mind between her husband and Krishna—
गोमार्गखननं कृत्वा वपते सस्यमेव च
Who, after digging a cow-path, sows crops there—
राजके दैवके यत्नाद्गोस्वामी गां न पातयेत्
Whether for the king or for the gods, the owner of cows must never let his cow fall—
प्राणिनं लंघयेद्यो हि देवार्चायां रतं जलम् ।।2.30.
Whoever steps over a living being, or over water dedicated to the worship of the gods—
शश्वन्नास्तीति वादी यो मिथ्यावादी प्रतारकः
Who always says ‘there is nothing’ or who is a false speaker, a deceiver—
