ततो रक्तविकारी च शूली वै मानवो भवेत्

स भवेदश्वजातिश्च भारते सप्तजन्मसु

पुंश्चल्यन्नं च यो भुंक्ते पुंश्चलीजीव्यजीवनः
Whoever eats the food of a prostitute, or lives by the earnings of a prostitute—
ताडितो यमदूतेन तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति
Beaten by a messenger of Yama, he who eats thus remains there.
म्लेच्छसेवी मषीजीवी यो विप्रो भारते भुवि
A Brahmin in Bharata who serves foreigners or lives by ink—
ताडितो यमदूतेन तद्भोजी तत्र तिष्ठति
Beaten by a messenger of Yama, he who eats thus remains there.
त्रिजन्मनि भवेच्छागः कृष्णसर्पस्त्रिजन्मनि
He becomes a goat for three births, and a black serpent for three births.
धान्यादि सस्यं ताम्बूलं यो हरेत्सुरविप्रयोः
Whoever steals grain, crops, or betel from the gods or Brahmins,
शताब्दं तत्र निवसेद्यमदूतेन ताडितः 2.30.
Shall reside there for a hundred years, struck by the servants of Yama.
ततो भवेन्मानवश्च कासव्याधियुतो भुवि
Afterwards, he is born as a human afflicted with the disease of cough on earth.
चक्रं करोति विप्राणां हृत्वा द्रव्यं च यो नरः
Whoever makes a wheel for Brahmins, having stolen their property,
ततो भवेन्मानवश्च तैलकारस्त्रिजन्मनि
Afterwards, he is born as an oil-maker for three lifetimes.
बान्धवेषु च विप्रेषु कुरुते वक्रतां नरः
A person who acts crookedly towards relatives or Brahmins,
ततो भवेत्स वक्रांगो हीनाङ्गः सप्तजन्मसु
Afterwards, he is born with crooked limbs, deficient in limbs, for seven lifetimes.
शयने कूर्ममांसं च ब्राह्मणो यो हि भक्षति
If a Brahmin eats tortoise meat while lying down,
ततो भवेत्कूर्म्मजन्म त्रिजन्मनि च सूकरः
Afterwards, he is born as a tortoise, and for three lifetimes as a boar.
घृततैलादिकं चैव यो हरेत्सुरविप्रयोः
Whoever steals ghee, oil, or similar things from the gods or Brahmins,
तत्र स्थित्वा शताब्दं च स भवेत्तैलपायिकः
Having stayed there for a hundred years, he becomes an oil-drinker.
सुगन्धितैलं धात्रीं च गन्धद्रव्यं तथैव वा 2.30.
If one steals fragrant oil, amla, or perfumed substances likewise,
वसेद्दुर्गन्धकुंडे च दुर्गन्धं च लभेत्सदा
He dwells in a foul-smelling pit and always obtains foul odor.
दुर्गंधिकः सप्तजनौ मृगनाभिस्त्रिजन्मनि
He is foul-smelling for seven lifetimes, and for three lifetimes as a musk deer.
बलेनैव खलत्वेन हिंसारूपेण वा सति
If, by force, wickedness, or in the form of violence,
स वसेत्तप्तशूले च भवेत्ततो दिवानिशम्
He dwells on a heated stake, and remains there day and night.
भस्मसान्न भवत्येव भोगदेहो न नश्यति
His body becomes ashen, yet the body of enjoyment does not perish.
शब्दं करोत्यनाहारो यमदूतेन ताडितः
Without food, he makes a sound, struck by the servants of Yama.
ततो भवेद्भूमिहीनो दरिद्रश्च ततः शुचिः
Then he becomes landless, poor, and pure thereafter.
छिनत्ति जीविनः खङ्गैर्दयाहीनः सुदारुणः
He, devoid of compassion and exceedingly cruel, cuts down living beings with swords.
असिपत्रे च स वसेद्यावदिन्द्राश्चतुर्दश
He dwells on the sword-leaf tree as long as the fourteen Indras reign.
छिन्नाङ्गश्च भवेत्पापी खङ्गधारेण सन्ततम् 2.30.
That sinner becomes maimed, constantly struck by the sword's edge.
