And those devotees who serve Nārāyaṇa, the four-armed One—
The Vaiṣṇavas who have desires go to Vaikuṇṭha.
In time, they too will become free from desire, gradually.
Other than the brāhmaṇa Vaiṣṇavas, all others remain with desires through all births.
Those twice-born who reside at sacred fords and are devoted to austerities,
The Brāhmaṇas in Bhārata who are devoted to their own duty and are worshippers of the Sun,
The Brāhmaṇas devoted to their own duty, as well as those who are followers of Śiva, Śakti, or Gaṇeśa,
Those Brāhmaṇas who worship other deities, yet remain devoted to their own duty,
And those desireless twice-born who are devoted to Hari but neglect their own duty,
The Brāhmaṇas who neglect their own duty and always serve other gods,
Thus, those devoted to their own duty, and the four varṇas as well,
But those who neglect their own duty surely go to hell.
Brāhmaṇas devoted to their own duty, and to those devoted to their own duty,
O virtuous one, they dwell there as long as the fourteen Indras exist.
Those with desires reach that world, but the desireless Vaiṣṇavas do not.
Cows, silver, wives, garments, grain, fruits, and water,
They dwell in that world as long as a manvantara lasts.
Those who give gold, cows, copper, and the like,
They dwell in that world for ten thousand years.
He who gives land and abundant grains to Brāhmaṇas,
He dwells there as long as the moon and sun endure.
Those people who give a house to a Brāhmaṇa with devotion,
If, on an auspicious day, one gives in charity for as many years as there are particles of dust in a house,
to whichever deity and to whomever a man gives a house,
the merit gained from building a mansion is four times greater, and from constructing public works, the fruit is a hundredfold.
Whoever gives a pond for the benefit of all beings in the land of Bharata,
a person thereby attains a hundredfold reward from a reservoir.
It is established that the measure of length is four thousand bows.
If a maiden is given to a worthy recipient, it is equal in merit to ten reservoirs.
That same fruit is obtained from a pond, and from removing mud from it, that fruit is also gained.
