निर्वाणमुक्तिं लभते कर्मभोगाद्विमुच्यते
Attains liberation and release from the fruits of actions.
शालग्रामशिलां धृत्वा मिथ्यावादं वदेत्तु यः
Whoever, holding the Śālagrāma stone, speaks falsehood,
शालग्रामशिलां स्पृष्ट्वा स्वीकारं यो न पालयेत्
Whoever, after touching the Śālagrāma stone, does not keep his vow,
तुलसीपत्र विच्छेदं शालग्रामे करोति यः
Whoever breaks a tulasī leaf for use in the Śālagrāma worship,
तुलसीपत्रविच्छेदं शंखे यो हि करोति च
Whoever breaks a tulasī leaf for use in a conch,
शालग्रामं च तुलसीं शंखमेकत्र एव च
Śālagrāma, tulasī, and conch—if all three are together in one place,
सकृदेव हि यो यस्यां वीर्य्याधानं करोति यः
Whoever, even once, deposits semen in any of these,
त्वं प्रिया शंखचूडस्य चैकमन्वन्तरावधि
You are dear to Śaṃkhacūḍa for the duration of a single manvantara.
इत्युक्त्वा श्रीहरिस्तां च विरराम च सादरम् 2.21.
Having spoken thus, Śrī Hari respectfully ceased.
यथा श्रीश्च तथा सा चाप्युवास हरिवक्षसि
Just as Śrī herself, so too did she dwell upon Hari's chest.
लक्ष्मीः सरस्वती गङ्गा तुलसी चापि नारद
O Nārada, Lakṣmī, Sarasvatī, Gaṅgā, and also Tulasī—
सद्यस्तद्देहजाता च बभूव गण्डकी नदी
immediately from her body arose the river Gaṇḍakī.
कुर्वन्ति तत्र कीटाश्च शिलां बहुविधां मुने
There, O sage, insects create many kinds of stones.
स्थलस्थाः पिङ्गला ज्ञेयाश्चोपतापाद्धरेरिति
Those found on land are known as piṅgalā, afflicted by Hari.
नारद उवाच तस्याः पूजाविधानं च स्तोत्रं किं न श्रुतं मया
Nārada said: I have not heard the method of her worship or her hymn.
केन पूज्या स्तुता केन पुरा प्रथमतो मुने
By whom was she first worshipped and praised, O sage?
सूत उवाच कथां कथितुमारेभे पुण्यरूपां पुरातनीम्
Sūta said: He began to narrate the ancient, meritorious story.
नारायण उवाच रमासमां तां सौभाग्यां चकार गौरवेण च
Nārāyaṇa said: He made her equal to Ramā in fortune and with honor.
सेहे लक्ष्मीश्च गंगा च तस्याश्च नवसंगमम्
Lakṣmī and Gaṅgā endured her new union.
सा तां जघान कलहे मानिनी हरिसन्निधौ
She, proud, struck her in a quarrel in the presence of Hari.
सर्वसिद्धेश्वरी देवी ज्ञानिनी सिद्धयोगिनी
The goddess, sovereign of all accomplishments, wise, and a perfected yoginī.
हरिर्न दृष्ट्वा तुलसीं बोधयित्वा सरस्वतीम्
Hari, not seeing Tulasī, instructed Sarasvatī.
तत्र गत्वा च स्नात्वा च तुलस्या तुलसीं सतीम्
Going there and bathing, he worshipped the faithful Tulasī with Tulasī.
लक्ष्मीमायाकामवाणीबीजपूर्वं दशाक्षरम् 2.22.
The ten-syllable mantra, beginning with the seeds of Lakṣmī, Māyā, Kāma, and Vāṇī—
श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं वृन्दावन्यै स्वाहा पूजयेच्च विधानेन सर्वसिद्धिं लभेन्नरः
"Śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ aiṃ vṛndāvanyai svāhā"—one who worships with the proper method attains all accomplishments.
घृतदीपेन धूपेन सिन्दुरचन्दनेन च
With a lamp of ghee, incense, vermilion, and sandalwood—
हरिस्तोत्रेण तुष्टा सा चाविर्भूय महीरुहात्
Pleased by the hymn to Hari, she appeared from the tree.
वरं तस्यै ददौ विष्णुर्जगत्पूज्या भवेति च
Viṣṇu granted her a boon: 'Be worshipped throughout the world.'
सर्वे त्वां धारयिष्यन्ति स्वयं मूर्ध्नि सुरादयः
All the gods and others will themselves bear you upon their heads.
नारद उवाच तुलस्याश्च महाभाग तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि
Nārada said: O most fortunate one, please explain to me also about Tulasī.
