काली चिक्षेप चाग्नेयं प्रलयाग्निशिखोपमम्

So long, neither old age nor death will touch him—such is Brahma's boon.
शतलक्षं दानवानामग्रहील्लीलया क्रुधा दिव्यास्त्रेण सुतीक्ष्णेन वारयामास दानवः 2.19.
With ease and anger, he seized a hundred thousand demons; with a sharp divine weapon, the demon repelled them.
दिव्यास्त्रैर्दानवेन्द्रोऽयं शतखण्डं चकार सः

Then she broke his chariot and struck the charioteer.
वामहस्तेन जग्राह शंखचूडश्च लीलया

बभ्राम व्यथया दैत्यः क्षणं मूर्च्छामवाप ह
The demon staggered from pain and, for a moment, lost consciousness.
न चक्रे बाहुयुद्धं स देव्या सह ननाम ताम्

नास्त्रं चिक्षेप तां भक्त्या मातृबुद्ध्या च वैष्णवः

A splendid aerial chariot, adorned with the finest jewels, enchanting to behold,
क्षतजं दानवानां च मांसं च विपुलं क्षुधा
Out of great hunger, she consumed the blood and abundant flesh of the demons.
उवाच रणवृत्तान्तं पौर्वापर्य्यं यथाक्रमम्
She narrated the events of the battle, in their proper order, from beginning to end.
लक्षं च दानवेन्द्राणामवशिष्टं रणेऽधुना
Now, a hundred thousand of the lords of the demons remain on the battlefield.
संग्रामे दानवेन्द्रं च हन्तुं पाशुपतेन वै
In the battle, the lord of the demons was to be slain by the Pāśupata weapon.
राजेन्द्रश्च महाज्ञानी महाबलपराक्रमः
And the king, who was greatly wise and possessed immense strength and valor,
नारायण उवाच ययौ स्वयं च समरं स्वगणैः सह नारद
Nārāyaṇa said: Nārada himself went to the battle along with his own followers.
शंखचूडः शिवं दृष्ट्वा विमानादवरुह्य च
Śaṅkhacūḍa, seeing Śiva, descended from his aerial chariot.
तं प्रणम्य च वेगेन विमानं ह्यारुरोह सः
Having quickly bowed to him, he then ascended his chariot.
शिवदानवयोर्युद्धं पूर्णमब्दं बभूव ह
The battle between Śiva and the demon lasted a full year.
