सर्वेश्वर्य्याः सर्वमातुः प्रकृत्याश्च बभूव ह 2.18.
All this arose by the nature of the Supreme Lady, the Mother of all, of Prakṛti.
पार्षदप्रवरस्त्वं च कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः
You are the foremost attendant of Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Self.
का लज्जा महती राजन्मम युद्धे त्वया सह
O king, what great shame is there for me in battle with you?
देहि राज्यं च देवानां वाग्व्यये किं प्रयोजनम्
Give the kingdom of the gods; what use is there in wasting words?
इत्युक्त्वा शंकरस्तत्र विरराम च नारद
Having spoken thus, Śaṃkara fell silent there, O Nārada.
नारायण उवाच समारुरोह यानं च स्वामात्यैः सह सत्वरः
Nārāyaṇa said: He quickly mounted his vehicle along with his ministers.
बभूवुस्ते च संक्षुब्धाः स्कन्दशक्त्याऽर्दितास्तदा
Then they became agitated, struck by Skanda’s power.
स्कन्दस्योपरि तत्रैव समरे च भयङ्करे
There, in that dreadful battle, above Skanda himself—
दानवानां क्षयकरं यथा प्राकृतिकं लयम्
—it brought destruction to the Dānavas, like the cosmic dissolution.
नृपस्य शरवृष्टिश्च घनवृष्टिर्यथा तथा
The king’s shower of arrows was like a heavy downpour of rain.
देवाः प्रदुद्रुवुश्चान्ये सर्वे नन्दीश्वरादयः
All the other gods fled, as did Nandīśvara and the rest.
पर्वतानां च सर्पाणां शिलानां शाखिनां तथा
So too did the mountains, serpents, rocks, and trees.
नृपस्य शरवृष्ट्या च प्रच्छन्नः शिवनन्दनः । नीरदेन च सान्द्रेण संच्छन्नो भास्करो यथा
The son of Shiva was concealed by the king's shower of arrows, just as the sun is hidden by a dense raincloud.
धनुस्स्कन्दस्य चिच्छेद दुर्वहं च भयङ्करम्
He cut through the heavy and terrifying bow of Skanda.
मयूरं जर्ज्जरीभूतं दिव्यास्त्रेण चकार सः 2.19.
With a divine weapon, he shattered the peacock, leaving it in tatters.
क्षणं मूर्छां च संप्राप्य चेतनामुपलभ्य सः
For a moment, he fell unconscious, but then regained his senses.
रत्नेन्द्रसारखचितं यानमारुह्य चाग्निभूः
Mounting a chariot adorned with the finest jewels, Agnibhū went forth.
सर्पांश्च पर्वतांश्चैव वृक्षांश्च प्रस्तरांस्तथा
He hurled serpents, mountains, trees, and rocks as well.
आग्नेयं वारुणास्त्रेण वारयामास वै गुहः
Guha repelled the fire-missile with a missile of Varuna.
सवाहं सारथिं चैव किरीटं मुकुटोज्ज्वलम्
With his vehicle, his charioteer, and his radiant, jeweled crown—
मूर्च्छां संप्राप्य राजोपलभ्य वै चेतनां पुनः
The king, having fallen unconscious, regained consciousness once more.
चकार शरजालं च मायया मायिनां वरः
The foremost of magicians created a network of arrows by his illusion.
जग्राह शक्तिमव्यर्थां शतसूर्य्यसमप्रभाम्
He seized an unfailing spear, shining like a hundred suns.
चिक्षेप तां च कोपेन महावेगेन कार्त्तिके
In anger, he hurled it with great force at Karttikeya.
मूर्च्छां संप्राप शक्त्या च कार्त्तिकेयो महाबलः 2.19.
Struck by the spear, the mighty Karttikeya fell unconscious.
शिवस्तं दर्शनादेव जीवयामास लीलया
Shiva, simply by his glance, revived him with ease.
शिवः स्वसैन्यं देवांश्च प्रेरयामास सत्वरः
Shiva quickly urged his own army and the gods into action.
स्वयं महेन्द्रो युयुधे सार्द्धं च वृषपर्वणा
Indra himself fought together with Vrishaparvan.
दम्भेन सह चन्द्रश्च चकार समरं परम्
The moon, along with Dambha, engaged in a great battle.
कुबेरः कालकेयेन विश्वकर्मा मयेन च
Kubera fought with Kalakeya, and Vishvakarma with Maya.
