प्रजानुचरसंघं च कोशौघं वाहनादिकम्
He gathered multitudes of subjects, heaps of wealth, and various vehicles.
भृत्यद्वारा क्रमेणैव स चक्रे सैन्यसंचयम् ।। 2.18.
Through his servants, in due order, he assembled an army.
रथानामयुतेनैव धानुष्काणां त्रिकोटिभिः
With ten thousand chariots and thirty crores of archers,
कृता सेनाऽपरिमिता दानवेन्द्रेण नारद
The lord of the Dānavas, O Nārada, formed an immeasurable army.
महारथः स विज्ञेयो रथिनां प्रवरो रणे
He was to be known as a great chariot-warrior, foremost among charioteers in battle.
त्रिंशदक्षौहिणीवाद्यभाण्डौघं च चकार सः
He amassed thirty akṣauhiṇīs and a great collection of equipment.
रत्नेन्द्रसारखचितं विमानं ह्यारुरोह सः
He ascended a celestial chariot adorned with the best of jewels.
पुष्पभद्रानदीतीरे यत्राक्षयवटः शुभः
On the bank of the Puṣpabhadrā river, where the auspicious, imperishable banyan stands,
कपिलस्य तपस्थानं पुण्यक्षेत्रं च भारते
At the place of Kapila's austerities, a holy region in Bhārata,
श्रीशैलोत्तरभागे च गन्धमादनदक्षिणे शाश्वती जलपूर्णा च पुष्पभद्रानदी शुभा
To the north of Śrīśaila and south of Gandhamādana, the ever-full, auspicious Puṣpabhadrā river flows.
लवणोदप्रिया भार्य्या शश्वत्सौभाग्यसंयुता
His wife, who was fond of salt water, was ever endowed with good fortune.
शरावतीमिश्रिता च निर्गता सा हिमालयात् 2.18.
Mixed with the waters of the Sharavati, she emerged from the Himalayas.
तत्र गत्वा शंखचूडो लुलोके चन्द्रशेखरम्
There, Shankhacuda went and beheld Chandrashekhara.
कृत्वा योगासने स्थित्वा मुद्रायुक्तं च सस्मितम्
Having assumed a yogic posture, with gestures and a gentle smile, he stood.
त्रिशूलपट्टिशधरं व्याघ्रचर्माम्बरं वरम्
He bore a trident and spear, was clad in a tiger skin, and was most excellent.
त्रिनेत्रं पञ्चवक्त्रं च नागयज्ञोपवीतिनम्
He had three eyes, five faces, and wore a serpent as his sacred thread.
भक्तमृत्युहरं शान्तं गौरीकान्तं मनोरमम्
He removes the death of devotees, is peaceful, beloved of Gauri, and delightful.
आशुतोषं प्रसन्नास्यं भक्तानुग्रहकारकम्
Easily pleased, with a gracious face, he bestows favor upon devotees.
विश्वम्भरं विश्ववरं विश्वसंहारकारणम्
He is the sustainer of the universe, the best in the universe, and the cause of its dissolution.
ज्ञानप्रदं ज्ञानबीजं ज्ञानानन्दं सनातनम्
He is the giver of knowledge, the seed of knowledge, the bliss of knowledge, eternal.
सर्वैः सार्द्धं भक्तियुक्तः शिरसा प्रणनाम सः
With all the others, filled with devotion, he bowed his head.
आशिषं च ददौ तस्मै काली स्कन्दश्च शङ्करः 2.18.
Kali, Skanda, and Shankara each gave him their blessing.
परस्परं च सम्भाषां ते चकुस्तत्र साम्प्रतम्
There, they engaged in mutual conversation at that very moment.
प्रसन्नात्मा महादेवो भगवांस्तमुवाच ह
With a serene mind, the great god, the blessed one, spoke to him.
श्रीमहादेव उवाच मरीचिस्तस्य पुत्रश्च वैष्णवश्चापि धार्मिकः
Sri Mahadeva said: Marichi was his son, a devotee of Vishnu and righteous.
कश्यपश्चापि तत्पुत्रो धर्मिष्ठश्च प्रजापतिः
Kashyapa was also his son, most virtuous and a progenitor.
तास्वेका च दनुः साध्वी तत्सौभाग्येन वर्द्धिता
Among them, one was Danu, virtuous, who grew in prosperity through that good fortune.
तेष्वेको विप्रचित्तिश्च महाबलपराक्रमः
Among them, one was Vipracitti, of great strength and valor.
जजाप परमं मन्त्रं पुष्करे लक्षवत्सरम्
He recited the supreme mantra at Puṣkara for a hundred thousand years.
तदा त्वां तनयं प्राप परं कृष्णपरायणम्
Then he obtained you as a son, one wholly devoted to Krishna.
