कृत्वा वक्षसि कान्तां तां रुदन्तीमतिदुःखिताम् ।। कृशोदरीं निराहारां निमग्नां शोकसागरे
Placing that beloved, who was weeping and greatly distressed, with slender waist, fasting, immersed in an ocean of sorrow, upon his chest,
पुनस्तां बोधयामास दिव्यज्ञानेन बोधवित् 2.17.
He awakened her again with divine knowledge, being awakened himself.
स च तस्यै ददौ तच्च सर्वशोकहरं परम्
And he gave her that supreme thing which removes all sorrow.
क्रीडां चकार हर्षेण सर्वं मत्वाऽतिनश्वरम्
He played joyfully, considering all as exceedingly transient.
पुलकाङ्कितसर्वाङ्गौ मूर्च्छितौ निर्जने मुने
Their whole bodies were covered with goosebumps, and the two fainted in solitude, O sage.
एकांगौ च तथा तौ द्वौ चार्द्धनारीश्वरौ यथा
And thus, the two became as one body, like Ardhanārīśvara.
प्राणाधिकां च तां मेने राजा प्राणाधिकेश्वरीम्
The king regarded her as dearer than his own life, as the sovereign of his very breath.
सुवेषौ सुखसम्भोगादचेष्टौ सुमनोहरौ कथां मनोहरां दिव्यां हसन्तौ च क्षणं पुनः
Well adorned, motionless from blissful union, both exceedingly charming, they spoke delightful, divine words, laughing together for a moment.
भुक्तवन्तौ च ताम्बूलं प्रदतं च परस्परम्
They enjoyed betel together, each offering it to the other.
परस्परं सेवितौ च सुप्रीत्या श्वेतचामरैः
They served each other with great affection, with white chowries.
क्षणं केलिनियुक्तौ च रसभावसमन्वितौ
For a moment, they engaged in playful sport, filled with the essence of emotion.
सततं जययुक्तौ द्वौ क्षणं नैव पराजितौ 2.17.
Always engaged in victory, the two were never defeated, even for a moment.
नारायण उवाच ब्राह्मे मुहूर्त्ते चोत्थाय पुष्पतल्पान्मनोहरात्
Nārāyaṇa said: Rising at the brāhma-muhūrta from a delightful bed adorned with flowers,
रात्रिवासः परित्यज्य स्नात्वा मङ्गलवारिणा
Having left his nightly resting place, he bathed in auspicious water.
चकाराह्निकमावश्यमभीष्टगुरुवन्दनम्
He performed the daily rites as prescribed and offered reverence to his desired guru.
रत्नश्रेष्ठं मणिश्रेष्ठं वस्त्रश्रेष्ठं च काञ्चनम्
He possessed the finest jewels, the best gems, excellent garments, and gold.
अमूल्यरत्नं यत्किञ्चिन्मुक्तामाणिक्यहीरकम्
Whatever priceless jewel there was—pearls, rubies, or diamonds—
गजरत्नं चाश्वरत्नं धेनुरत्नं मनोहरम्
He had the best of elephants, the best of horses, and charming cows.
कोशागारसहस्रं च नगराणां त्रिलक्षकम्
He had a thousand treasuries and three hundred thousand cities.
पुत्रं कृत्वा च राजेन्द्रं सुचन्द्रं दानवेषु च
He made his son the lord of kings, shining among the Dānavas.
प्रजानुचरसंघं च कोशौघं वाहनादिकम्
He gathered multitudes of subjects, heaps of wealth, and various vehicles.
भृत्यद्वारा क्रमेणैव स चक्रे सैन्यसंचयम् ।। 2.18.
Through his servants, in due order, he assembled an army.
रथानामयुतेनैव धानुष्काणां त्रिकोटिभिः
With ten thousand chariots and thirty crores of archers,
कृता सेनाऽपरिमिता दानवेन्द्रेण नारद
The lord of the Dānavas, O Nārada, formed an immeasurable army.
महारथः स विज्ञेयो रथिनां प्रवरो रणे
He was to be known as a great chariot-warrior, foremost among charioteers in battle.
त्रिंशदक्षौहिणीवाद्यभाण्डौघं च चकार सः
He amassed thirty akṣauhiṇīs and a great collection of equipment.
रत्नेन्द्रसारखचितं विमानं ह्यारुरोह सः
He ascended a celestial chariot adorned with the best of jewels.
पुष्पभद्रानदीतीरे यत्राक्षयवटः शुभः
On the bank of the Puṣpabhadrā river, where the auspicious, imperishable banyan stands,
कपिलस्य तपस्थानं पुण्यक्षेत्रं च भारते
At the place of Kapila's austerities, a holy region in Bhārata,
श्रीशैलोत्तरभागे च गन्धमादनदक्षिणे शाश्वती जलपूर्णा च पुष्पभद्रानदी शुभा
To the north of Śrīśaila and south of Gandhamādana, the ever-full, auspicious Puṣpabhadrā river flows.
